Within the compound, there are 800 plum trees of around 60 varieties and from late February to the end of March, visitors can enjoy beautiful plum blooms and experience their refreshing fragrance. In the Giretsukan museum, visitors can view artifacts such as a historic war drum. He was raised as member of the Miki family until he was 4. Currently, the Mito Komon Shrine resides on this place. The collection is comprised of approximately 30,000 articles inherited mainly from the first Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu, along with those of successive domain lords and their wives, and 30,000 written materials that were gathered for the compilation of“Dainihonshi” (Great History of Japan). Within the 13-hectare spacious park, there are around 3000 plum trees consisting of 100 variations that give off a sweet-smelling fragrance. The beauty of Japanese flowers can be seen with cherry blossoms and azaleas in the spring time and bush clovers in autumn. Inside the park, the historic building Kobuntei designed simply, is yet generating a stately atmosphere of“Samurais” of Mito. Its 3rd floor provides an open view of Senba-ko Lake, especially from the room called“Rakujuro”.
