One of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, Kairaku-en was
built by Nariaki Tokugawa in 1842. Within the 13-hectare
spacious park, there are around 3000 plum trees consisting
of 100 variations that give off a sweet-smelling fragrance. The
beauty of Japanese flowers can be seen with cherry blossoms
and azaleas in the spring time and bush clovers in autumn.
Inside the park, the historic building Kobuntei designed
simply, is yet generating a stately atmosphere of“Samurais”
of Mito. Its 3rd floor provides an open view of Senba-ko Lake,
especially from the room called“Rakujuro”.
