Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass. Bamboo fabric has been growing in popularity because it has many unique properties and is more sustainable than most textile fibers. Bamboo fabric is light and strong, has excellent wicking properties, and is to some extent antibacterial. Bamboo fabric is favored by companies trying to use sustainable textiles, because the bamboo plant is very quick growing and does not usually require the use of pesticides and herbicides to thrive. As a result, plantations can easily be kept organic and replanted yearly to replenish stocks. The process of making unbleached bamboo fiber is very light on chemicals that could potentially harm the environment. YogaFit Community Outreach and Warehouse Manager Ken Perry Born in Chicago, IL, Ken Perry grew up in Compton, CA, one of the poorest areas of Southern California. He was the only child of a working mother. As a result, he grew up on the streets and learned to do street things. He was into fast money. He succeeded in making it. By 19 he owned a townhouse and expensive car, thanks to selling a lot of cocaine. Although his mother pleaded with him to stop doing what he was doing… she didn’t want him to end up “dead or in jail,” he continued with what he knew. Then he was arrested, convicted and served time in both state and federal penitentiaries. After his release, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The five shots he took put him in the hospital for two and a half months… and he had to learn to walk again. That’s when Ken determined to change his life. He learned that money wasn’t everything. His mother was right. He ultimately learned that “fast money isn’t good money because you didn’t work for it… it goes just as fast as it comes.” Flash forward 10 years… he’s happily married, has four children, a good job, has become a Certified Yoga Instructor and wants to bring YogaFit® into Correctional Centers to help the incarcerated find true liberation. How did he get to where he is today? Having worked in distribution and warehouses, about a year ago, when he was seeking a new job, he found YogaFit’s job listing for a warehouse manager on the internet. He applied and, despite cautions from her board about hiring an ex-con, YogaFit’s founder, Beth Shaw, followed her instincts and hired him. They are both glad she did. Being at YogaFit, Ken got curious about yoga. He’d never been exposed to it before. YogaFit has a lending library of DVDs, CDs, and books for their personnel. He liked what he experimented with… so much so that he’s become certified in Level 1, Level 2, Level 5 and Seniors. Now he wants to help others change their way of thinking. “Yoga is letting go of competition without judgment toward ourselves or others. It is totally and completely accepting who we are. Bringing yoga to their world (prisoners) will help, in and out of jail,” stated Ken. In addition, the training will strengthen your teaching skills in the principles of alignment and movement, and posture modifications and adjustments (including how to use yoga props to attain safe alignment), which is effective knowledge for teaching various YogaFit styles. 2.8 ACE CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS MADE IN THE USA yogafit.com Save money - register online YogaFit® TRAININGS DESCRIPTIONS YogaFit® 300HR: The 300 hour Yoga Therapy program includes: Therapy I Therapy II Restorative Anatomy II Ayurveda Advanced Pranayama Additional Therapy modules awaiting YA guidelines for RYT 500...coming next year. Heat is purifying, cleans- ing and even healing. Because of its emphasis on deep stretches and detoxification, yoga, more than most forms of physical exercise, benefits from being practiced in a controlled heated environment. Not only does the added warmth prepare muscles and connective tissue for deeper stretches, it facilitates perspiration, which serves to cleanse the body as well as clear the mind. The YogaFit Sweat training looks closely at all the benefits of exercising in heat, as well as the risks. Instructors are taught various medical conditions that can occur in even a moderately heated environment, how to both recognize and prevent them, how to modify YogaFit Sweat class sequences for beginners and special populations, and which individuals are best served avoiding heat altogether. One Day Workshop YogaFit® YogaLean (tm): Losing weight is a transformational process that involves the mind, body and spirit. Therefore, YogaLean is a weight management program designed to work from the inside out, taking into account every student’s unique story, size and shape, and customizing a program that fits their lifestyle, as opposed to the latest fad diet. In addition to the latest findings on nutrition, exercise, and adherence, YogaLean draws heavily from the yogic practices of breathing, meditation, and mindfulness, as well as YogaFit class sequences created for larger bodies. Finally, YogaLean offers an online nutrition and weight management program to give participants the one-on-one expertise and support necessary for safe, lasting success. This one-day workshop is the foundation for teaching individuals how to think, eat and exercise in a way that honors who they are today, and who they are destined to become. One Day Workshop YogaFit® YogaProps: Teaches the poses with props: their set-up, their benefits, the use of minimal or maximal props situations, how to incorporate Restorative poses in a Vinyasa Yoga class, how to create mixed content Flow & Restore classes of 50/50 or 75/25 or 25/75 % or any choices they & their studios/clients desire. We teach use of ambience, music, scents, voice, and touch; how to adjust for safety & alignment of the body in poses using props. This gentle approach to practice allows participants to experience the same benefits of traditional practice while exerting little or no effort at all and leaves students feeling nourished, refreshed and well rested.Restorative Yoga facilitates the four conditions for relaxation: relaxing the muscles with support, soothing the responses caused by stress, calming the mind and finding a relaxed smooth breath.Restorative Yoga encourages students to become aware of the sensations and feelings of breathing and provides a chance to experience breath without muscular effort that brings about opening, healing and a calm state of mind. One Day Workshop *The Props training is one- day workshop within the YogaFit Restorative. It may be taken as a stand-alone training or within the 4 day Restorative Training. YogaFit® YogaPlus (tm): YogaPlus teacher training includes yoga postures and modifications for larger bodies. Many people are intimidated to try yoga for fear of not being thin enough or fit enough. This training will give you the teaching tools you need to enable people of all shapes and sizes to reap the benefits of yoga. Yoga classes are taught at a comfortable pace and demonstrate a diverse use of props which enable every Body to enjoy a gentle practice and promote increased activity and better health. One Day Workshop YogaFit® Anatomy & Aligment II: YogaFit’s second Anatomy & Alignment training looks even deeper at hatha yoga through the lenses of Base of Support, Center of Gravity, Skeletal Anatomy, and the physiology of stretching. We explore anatomy and kinesiology of, and common misalignments in, shoulderstand/plow, headstand, forearm balance, and crow and its many variations, such as scales pose, firefly, and side crow. Additionally, how direct application of base (Foundation) and centering (moving from larger joints) affect asana and can create more ease in practice. We will also take a deeper look at the subtle anatomy through exploring the chakras, including specific details on the nerves plexes and the glands associated with each chakra as well as looking at the hormones secreted by the various glands and then relating it poses and their affects. Finally, we will spend time looking at mind body intention that creates muscle activation and relaxation when holding a pose, and which muscles we can activate or relax in any given pose to move more fully into the full expression of the pose for your body. yogafit.com Save money - register online YogaFit® NEW TRAININGS! YogaFit® Pranayama: Our breath is powerful. It marks our lifespan and it is such an important part of our physiology, that as humans, we don’t have to think to breathe. When we take the time to apply greater understanding to our breath and how to most fully utilize the power of our breath, it can have significant impacts on our health and well-being. Changing our breath can literally change our minds as well as our bodies. While training in YogaFit offers an understanding of the breath, this workshop integrates an East-West approach that will provide teachers with a more complete understanding of how to use and teach pranayama, in classroom, gym, and studio settings, as well as one-on-one and in therapeutic environments. This workshop is also beneficial for healthcare practitioners looking for an East-West integration of the breath and breathing techniques as well as Yoga practitioners or novices who want to find greater health through breathing. Physiology and anatomy of breath -- Anatomy and physiology of the breath from a Western and Eastern perspective—combination of discussion of physiology and the understanding of the nadis and the subtle body. Western biomedicine is now recognizing the power of the breath in disease processes and facilitating the healing process and promoting well-being. Medical benefits—using the breath for stress reduction, reducing anxiety, decreasing asthma, complementary therapies for depression and other situations. Review of current, relevant research studies including the effect of the breath on reducing blood pressure and other physiological situations. Some resources: Richard Rosen—The Yoga of Breath and Pranayama Beyond the Fundamentals and B.K.S. Iyengar—Light on Pranayama, as well as a manual that includes a review of current research as well as relevant asana sequences.
