Organic Goji Berries Bulk from China
GOJI BERRIES FROM CHINA
Tradin Organic’s Goji berries are sourced from farms
just north of Delingha (Delhi) City in China’s Qinghai
province. Delingha, named after the Mongolian
word for “golden world”, is Qinghai Province’s third
biggest city.
Goji berries thrive at an altitude of 3200m in the cold
arid climate of nearby Baishu Mountain. The altitude
and the climate lowers the risk of insects and is thus
vital in achieving organic agriculture standards.
GOJI PROCESSING
The berries grow on bushes with an average height of 1 m, some
however can grow up to 3 m tall. From farm to package Tradin
Organic’s certified organic Goji Berries go through the following
key steps:
First the delicate ripened berries are handpicked, to avoid spoiling
and ensure only the highest quality berries are selected from the
Goji bush. They are then spread out on stacked drying beds and
left for 4-10 hours, until there is only 14% moisture left in the berries.
Traditionally Goji berries have been sun dried, however, this
process takes a very long time. Tradin Organic uses state-of-theart drying beds which preserve the quality of the berries and take
only a few hours to dry them.
Once dried the berries are stored in bags and transported to the
warehouse for packaging. At the factory a color sorter is used
to sort out impurities and the berries are passed twice through a
metal detector.
TECHNOLOGY IS NOT ALWAYS CRUCIAL
After completing this initial round of sorting the berries are sterilized
and hand-sorted, following GMP standards, in a sterile area of the
facility. At this moment there is no machine that could replace
human fingers to do this last sorting round.
Therefore our Delingha Goji processing facility employs 60 local
workers in a rural region. During the high season these employees
sort through 4 metric tonnes of Goji berries each day!
Tradin Organic strives to not only produce a high quality product
but also provide a high quality work environment for all their staff.
To achieve this, the Delingha employees receive social insurance
as well as training programs and skill set improving workshops.
In the picture, you can see the health and social insurance cards
of the employees working that day.
