Booking Agent: Art Medici: [email protected] A fellowship of men devoted to the art of a cappella barbershop singing, committed to excellence in musical performance and good will in the community. Visit the Fairfax Jubil-Aires’s Web page at http://www.fairfaxjubilaires.org 2 Editorial Introduction -John KnuevenThis issue is a special edition which is intended to be an addendum to the previous Memorial to Bix Doughty. After reviewing my files and emails in preparation for the next WH issue, I discovered (to my complete horror!) that I had missed more than a few submitted inputs to Bix’s issue. In order to correct this error, but without creating a double sized WH, I have decided to produce this addendum. Please consider it a “chapter 2” of the first edition. It has also given me the opportunity to include a few more pictures from the many I received. Barbershop singing became Bix's passion when he re-discovered it in the 90's. (His niece recalls taking him to a concert and claims that's when he was bitten by the barbershop bug, although I recall him having some barbershop phonograph records in my youth.) Singing kept Bix young at heart and added years to his life - it was the reason we were all able to enjoy his presence for as long as we were able. Thank you for that, Jonathan Doughty (Bix's youngest) From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, January 03, 2014 10:22 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Members] Special Edition of What's Happening? And to those of you who I missed publishing the first time thru, my most sincere apologies. I always enjoyed singing "Let the Lower Lights be Burning" with Bix. I think he was an inspiration to all of us. John, At a recent Jube practice, I announced my little booklet about my music experience over the last ten years. A couple of those pages refer to the quartet called the Tripods that Bix and I were in, and which performed at the Jubil-Aire Irish Day party one year. It takes $1,000 to get his name on the plaques ($900.00 remaining). We all did this for Jere Richardson, and I’ve seen his name on the plaques. If each of Bix’s friends in both HHS and the Jubil-Aires makes some sort of contribution, the amount in his name will soon reach or exceed $1,000. My remembrance of Francis" Bix " Doughty My best thoughts of Bix is How much he would be willing to help anyone who wanted to sing better he would be more than willing to help. Also how at his age he was never afraid to learn more of the art of singing better. Also how he could sing any one of the four parts. And the most important thing is How much of a Gentile Man He is and was. I admire how much spirit he had. I just wish that I could have even 1/4th of his determination to be in a Quartet.
