SIMPLY PRAY
Prayer is the privilege each of us has to talk with our Heavenly
Father. Relationships are always better when there is open
communication.
Lent is a time of special growth and increased intimacy with Jesus.
This Lent season you are invited to focus on giving prayer an
increasing priority in your life.
This short booklet may help you explore new avenues to increase
your communication with God. There are also resources online at
www.bethelamespokane.com While you should spend individual
time in prayer, consider choosing a prayer partner because where 2
or 3 are gathered together in [Jesus'] name, there [He] is in the midst
of them.
Lent begins Wednesday, March 5 and lasts for 40 days leading to
Easter (not including Sundays). Lent ends on Thursday April 17, 2014.

Unable to stop
unhealthy habits
“This kind goeth not out
but by prayer and fasting.”
MATTHEW 17:21
- Jesus
I really need to
hear God’s voice
about something
What is fasting?
Most fasts involve abstaining from food for short or long periods of time. These
days, a television or Facebook fast may be precisely what we need to hear
God’s voice more clearly. If its your custom to “give up something” for Lent,
replace it with prayer. Fasting is hyper-prayer.
Thinking of God like Santa
or a genie
Why fast?
Certain miracles only happen in response to prayer and fasting. A fast helps
quiet other “noise” in our lives—like noise cancelling headphones. It breaks
down the calluses in our hearts and minds to make us sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
Question to consider:
When will I start?
When will I end?
What am I fasting for?
No matter what we fast, we need to establish a time frame and an objective.
If we don’t, we will find excuses to compromise and quit.
Lonely / Alone
Praying
only in an
emergency
Reasons some fast:
To empty oneself and be filled with the Holy Spirit
For deliverance from the yoke of bondage
For discernment to make a decision
For favor or a new job, or a new business
For a financial, relational or emotional breakthrough
To seek the heart of God

The Lord’s Prayer Expanded
.When we pray The Lord’s Prayer, Jesus did not ask us to repeat this prayer
and other prayers over and over again without meaning. He wants us to pray
with thought, meaning, and sincerity of heart. Pray these Bible passages to
help better to explain each part of the Lord’s Prayer. Silently pause to reflect
and then continue.
Acts chapter 17, verse 24: “The God who made the world and everything in it
is the Lord of heaven and earth.” Our Father who art in heaven;
Psalm 103, verse 1: “Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His
holy name.” Hallowed be Thy name.
Psalm 103, verse 19: “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His
kingdom rules over all.” Thy kingdom come.

good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

food at the proper time. You open Your hand and satisfy the desires of every
living thing.” Give us this day our daily bread.
Psalm 51, verses 1 & 2: “You are kind, God! Please have pity on me. You are
always merciful! Please wipe away my sins. Wash me clean from all of my sin
and guilt.” And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us.

temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
And lead us not into temptation.

strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”
But deliver us from evil

given to the only God, who lives forever and is the invisible and eternal King!”
For Thine is the kingdom and power and the glory forever and ever.
Numbers chapter 5, verse 22: “Amen. So be it.” Amen.
