Tumaini Academy Studio
Coordinator: Patrick Beale
Dorm Section 1:20
Brief: Design a high school in Namawanga, Western
Kenya. The high school must be self sufficent and include
considerations for farming, security, water conservation and the
existing landscape.
Design: The included images show the dormitories and dining
hall compound, one half for boys, the other for girls. During the
night the central dining hall acts as a barrier between these two
halves, but during the day the students are free to access the
courtyard areas of each. The courtyard spaces include two
running tracks, a stage, grass areas for field sports, shaded
seating areas and vegetable gardens.
The continuous structure of the compound provides natural
security without the need for perimeter walls. There are limited
access points which are lockable during the night and heavy
shutters on each dorm room can be locked to secure the each
room.

Coordinator: Rene Van Meeuwen
Brief: Using 3ds Max, create a one minute animation of a project
from ‘Unbuilt Australia’.
Design: This animation features the Bridge of Baths from Steven
Holl’s Bridges project on the Melbourne riverfront. The only
diagram of the project available was the isometric seen below,
apart from the basic form of the bridge, the remainder of the
design was open for interpretation.

Interior Architecture
Coordinator: Emiliano Roia
Brief: Constrained by an existing facade, design a home and studio for
a photographer and their family.
Design: Inspired by the work of Aires Mateus the entrance opens
directly into a large and uninterrupted living area, the canterlevered
second storey appears to float over the this space. A central spine
divides the living space, photography studio, courtyard and the
bedrooms on the second storey.

chair. The chair must be lightweight and joined
without screws or nails.
Exploded Assembly Axo
Design: The chair features a curved back
designed for comfort and support. Users may
relax for any desired duration without becoming
agitated.
The profile of the chair has no sharp corners
instead featuring large curves, increasing the
perception of comfort and inviting users to sit.

Complex Buildings Studio
Coordinator: Ben Braham
Brief: To investigate the nature of an inner city mixed use development. The design
must include 50,000sqm of office space, 240 residential units and adequate
underground parking.
Design: In order to maximise green space this design alternates large sections of the
building on either side of the central load bearing structure, the voids contain gardens
for all occupants to enjoy.
Each apartment is double height and access by a central corridor, the entry level is
alternatively the upper and lower level of the apartment. Views of the north and south
of the city can been seen from all apartments.
