the weekend brightened the out­
look of beach merchants and sup­
plied at least a temporary rush
for hotels, rooming houses, and
restaurants.
Contrary to the customary busi­
ness slack when there is good
beach weather, the theatres, bowl­
ing alleys, and penny arcades re­
ported a caipacity crowd in their
establishments.
Although July usually produces
the largest volume of business,
many feel that the heavy pub­
licity whidh has stressed August
as the Festival Month is partial­
ly responsible for the slowness of
the season.
Increasing unemployment and
a national tightening of money
are contributing factors in the
decrease of business. However, an
acceleration is expected now that
the General Electric and Western
Electric employes are on vacation.

Is a life-size Wimpy, which is us­
ually stationed on a bench in
front or the Cavalier Coffee shop
on Ocean boulevard.
Wimpy was constructed by
Hotvard Woodward from papiermache and took an entire year to
Luild. Closely resembling the com­
ic strip Wimpy, he even clutches
a hamburger in his hand.
Many vacationists have done a
double-take when it appears that
Wimpy has slpoken to them. Actu­
ally Woody has a strategically
placed microphone which he uses
to startle passers-by.
On her recent stay at the Hotel
Allen .immediately adjacent to
the coffee shop. Frances Langford
was momentarily speechless when
Wimpy loudly admired her at­
tributes and vocally complimented
her.
