Berlitz Levels and CEF
LANGUAGE SKILLS MADE COMPARABLE
The Council of Europe’s Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEF) divides language
proficiency into different levels to make the learning of languages and evaluation of language skills more
transparent and comparable. Berlitz will test your language skills before each course for free. The ten Berlitz
levels can then simply be aligned with the CEF levels and the online points scale (for e-learning).

• Total Immersion®: Individual instruction in its most intensive form! With 12 lessons a day including a business
lunch, you will be able to gain confidence in the foreign language within two to three weeks.
• Individual Instruction Premium: The ultimate in flexibility! You enjoy full flexibility with regard to the
number of lessons, timetable and length of contract.
• Individual Instruction Compact: Intensive and plannable. You will learn your chosen language in at least 20
teaching sessions a week held at fixed times and offered at an attractive price.

SCHEDULE EXAMPLE: THE TOTAL IMMERSION® LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE
Total Immersion® is an extremely intensive and tailored teaching programme. The participants think and speak
in the target language throughout the day – even over lunch, which serves as a small talk practice session.

goal-oriented manner. Take advantage of all the benefits of our comprehensive training evaluation system starting
with a precise analysis of your needs and level as well as determining the individual content right up to a detailed
evaluation of success.
Choose from two course options:
• Corporate
Group Premium with a maximum of ten participants: The course is run entirely flexibly to meet your
needs, as the number of lessons and timetable can be arranged as required. There is no fixed contract length.
• Corporate
Group Compact with a maximum of six participants: Employees learn the foreign language according
to a predetermined timetable. This course option is an affordable alternative to the Corporate Group Premium
course.

THREE-STAGE INTENSIVE LEARNING CONCEPT
Three stages with one result: maximum linguistic success! Our three-stage intensive learning concept is an option
applicable to our corporate group courses and guarantees quick and lasting learning of your language goals. The
concept begins with a short period of intensive learning, followed by regular follow-up language learning in the
form of weekly lessons and then further intensive learning. This keeps the language fresh in the participants’
minds and continuously boosts their confidence in using the language in day-to-day situations.
Stage I: Two days of intensive learning
In the first stage, the course participants are intensively immersed in the foreign language, which they actively
use for at least half of the teaching time. Numerous role-playing exercises and simulations serve to refresh and
build on existing language knowledge.
Intensive confrontation with the foreign language results in the participants speaking and thinking in English in
next to no time, without the need for translation exercises.
Stage II: Weekly lessons
This is when the knowledge acquired during the intensive stage is continuously consolidated, reinforced and built on.
Stage III: Additional intensive learning days every four to six weeks
Active class-based exercises are used to refresh what has been learned in the weekly lessons – with the aim of
then being able to continue to apply this knowledge in practice. Again, the participants use nothing but the target
language all day long and practise work-related situations in particular to fully prepare them for day-to-day
linguistic challenges. This also boosts the participants’ motivation.
Intensive learning days are ideal for specifically practising work situations (sales pitches, meetings, lengthy
telephone calls, etc.) in the foreign language in a compact and clearly structured course.

Fun with foreign languages
Fun is the biggest motivator for children and young people – and this also applies when learning a language.
For this reason, our language programmes are designed in such a way that the participants are actively involved
from the outset – for example through exciting role-playing activities, language games, varied exercises and
coverage of age-appropriate topics. Swotting up on vocabulary and grammar is taboo!

BERLITZ LANGUAGE CAMPS DURING ALL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Language study trips in combination with attractive leisure and sports activities are the secret to the success of
our popular Berlitz camps. Held throughout Germany from the North Sea to the Alps, the camps allow seven- to

The Cultural Orientations Indicator® (C.O.I.) is a valid online assessment that places your individual cultural profile in a
working context. The results of the C.O.I. help you to overcome cultural differences to work better with colleagues
and business partners from other countries.
Your individual C.O.I. profile comprises the three dimensions of interaction style, thinking style and sense of self. In

This series of seminars has a unique structure, which is perfectly attuned to the needs of busy managers – an eight
days of face-to-face seminar spread over a six-month training period:
• I t begins with a three-day intensive seminar on the leadership role, leadership tools and understanding of
leadership.
• A second three-day intensive seminar on leadership communication, interviewing and conflict management
follows around two months later.
• The third module takes place after a further two months in the form of a two-day intensive seminar on the role
of the leader as a change manager and a final presentation.
One particular advantage of the seminar is the individual trainer support throughout the six-month period. Each
participant receives support via e-mail and during two coaching sessions by means of a telephone conference.

DURATION, TIME AND LOCATION
LANGUAGE COURSES
• Lessons are held at a Berlitz Centre between 8 a.m. and 9.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday and between 8 a.m.
and 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The times vary depending on the form of teaching chosen (individual instruction,
group-based lessons, etc.).
• In the case of in-house group teaching, you determine the time and place.
• Language course duration depends on the frequency of the lessons and your language goals.
• Business English Workshops last on average two days and are adapted to your needs in the case of in-house
workshops.
• The available language courses can vary depending on the Berlitz Centre.
Seminars
• The choice of seminar dates and venues – be it at your business premises, at your local Berlitz Centre or even
online – is down to you!
• In-house seminars generally last a day or longer, depending on the preferred depth of teaching.
We usually recommend teaching hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Our compact courses are designed to last four hours.
• Our Online Live Seminars can be taken wherever you are and consist of two sessions of 90 minutes each.
• The Successful Leadership in Practice seminar (pages 62/63) is also available as an open seminar held on fixed
dates at a Berlitz Centre.
FOCUS ON THE CUSTOMERS

starts. This makes sure that each group is of a similar proficiency level, thereby making the teaching
process more efficient. The teachers are native speakers, which further boosts the proficiency levels
within the groups. We also appreciate how Berlitz responds flexibly when there are scheduling problems: if necessary, individual participants can also move to a different group to learn.’
