The GeoRoster is a Enterprise wide deployable Employee
Duty Planner and Rostering system, essentially targeted
to streamline the data organization for Time scheduling
of all employees in an on-line manner. This system is at

Enterprise wide Deployment –
Typically GeoRoster is deployed on Enterprise server and
controlled access is given to all employees with each having defined rights and privileges.
Whereas a team leader has access to his team data, individual employees have access to own
data only. However, all users are allowed privileges as per enterprise wide rules set by
management.
Direct Location Geo Coding by Employee –
Even at individual employee level,
apart from their own access to their “MyProfile” data, they have access to maps on which they
can easily locate their place of residence or any changes thereon. This is enormously helpful in
obtaining and maintaining to physical location data,
obviating the need for time and cost consuming geocoding exercise helpful for accurate routing and dropping
of people. The facility for self maintenance of geo codes,
controlled through organization based rules, helps in
increasing accountability of employees and reduction of
constant arguments and productivity losses on account of
wrong geo-coding by other persons. This reduces
administrative cost and overheads as well as increases

Rule Based Rostering –

GeoRouter : Planning and Deployment
GeoVision India
This advanced application package has been designed
uniquely for the Indian requirement of home transportation
service for professional white collar employees in dynamic BPO/
IT industries. It has been developed based on painstaking and
arduous research and observations in actual field conditions for
years, and possibly the first package to claim completeness in
functionalities to handle the dynamic environments faced. The
use of latest GIS and spatial database based design will not only
ensure virtual automation of an area of operation demanding great manpower and efforts, but

Multiple Data Sources –
Fully Automatic, Tunable Optimizer – The system is fully automatic in creation of routes
along with GIS based physical route map, optimized grouping of people with sequence of Drop or
Pick, actual timings of each event forecast, distances to be traveled, Locality covered and route
guidance. Apart from multiple operational parameters, there are multiple tuning parameters
which can be suitably changed to obtain result optimization based on capacity maximization or
trip minimization or mileage minimization etc. Since the planning horizon is completely flexible, it is
possible to do actual scenario analysis or sensitivity analysis.
Time-of-the-day Traffic Speed Profiler – The very large number of individual city roads
can be dynamically categorized into unlimited number of groups (like Highway, Highway under
repair, Major arteries, colony roads etc.) and for each of them, each day can be divided into
number of time slots with varying average speed values. The router automatically chooses the
‘quickest’ routes for each trip of the day to not only estimate time and distance of travel but also
to generate the route guidance map. All road and speed categories are dynamically
changeable by the client on-line, which helps to manage even special days promptly with special
traffic restrictions, one-ways or out-of-bound areas of city. The predictability efficiency of the
router can be enhanced over time with experience or in future, with the data mining inputs from
associated GPS based data from client’s own data base.
Geographical Zoning – The city topology is divided into various zones by the clients and
they have good reasons to group employees for pick or drop in each trip based on prevention of
cross-zoning principle. This is available as a parameter to be applied for any plan created and
additionally, each client hub has its own on-line facility to change zone configuration and socalled ‘neutral’ zone settings.
The Router application package can accept employee shift and
other relevant data as and when necessary from Multiple sources, namely
Internal – Coming from integrated Roster package, seamless, on-line.
External – Simple Excel sheet inputs, read from any place, manually initiated.
Customised – From Client database, specially designed interface, ODBC connection with client
view tables and system output tables.

Vehicle Zoning – The vehicle fleet available can be categorized into neutral and nonneutral vehicles, non-neutral being the ones which are meant to go to areas meant for the
specific vehicles. The example could be certain areas like NOIDA, where vehicles need special
permission to go, or situations where various transport vendors are used for different parts of the
city to cater to. Vehicle zoning can be applied or not, shift wise or for any time horizon wise
planning.
Process or People Category Zoning – Like vehicle, the employees transported can be
grouped according to their process attachments or level in hierarchy or client groups etc. In some
special situations, even the capacities of vehicles considered also vary depending on the people
category and hence, separate employee grouping is a must.
Multi-capacity Vehicles Optimizer – The system does not plan on the basis of actual
vehicles but uses the concept of ‘pseudo vehicle’ thereby freeing the process of planning with
actual vehicle specific availability. Each batch plan can accept up to three different vehicle
capacities and any available number for each of them. The
system will always come back with the highest capacity
utilization of the vehicles given with their individual number
constraints. For instance, if the number of 4 seaters available at a
given circumstances is limited to a low number, but 7 seaters are
having spare numbers available, putting their individual numbers
will mean that both the 4 and 7 seaters are used to their
maximum efficiency and few 7 seaters are left unused as spare.
This feature of the system is of great help when a vehicle
capacity mix plan is created by the client to see beforehand as
to what capacity mix returns highest capacity utilization efficiency
for his kind of employees and working shift patterns.
Back-to-Back Trip Planning – Back-to-back trip planning increases vehicle capacity
utilization and economises on fuel consumption substantially for clients who have round the clock
shift working and where Drop trips can be easily clubbed with Pick trips for such benefits. However,
a number of parameters are used to club trips where possible having all constraints like maximum
last drop to first shift distance, return to hub or go for next trip pick criteria, safety margins for
unforeseen delays etc. are all included in the automatic program for combination trips. The full
flexibility is maintained for clubbing any number of independent drop shifts with any number of
independent pick shifts for best combinatorial efficiency.
No Female Last-drop or First-pick (NFLF) and Escorted-trip –
Self Help for Geocode Master – The Enterprise version
of GeoRouter gives a very employee friendly and easy way to
ascertain employee pick/drop location on map. Each employee
can be given access to his/her own profile (My Profile) editing
feature and here she can click on her position on a digital city map or select from a hierarchical
locality tree her place, down to the sub-locality level. This direct feature of employees locating

themselves (both initially as well as any time change is required in future) helps in satisfying
employee expectations and drastically reducing transport department overheads and errors (and
resultant employee grievance).
Automatic Passenger Information System – The other major overhead of any
transport department is the information flow to employees about transport arrangements. Once
the planning is done and specific vehicles are allocated to trips, the system can be programmed
to send automatic messages to employees by SMS or email or both, informing them vehicle no,
description, driver name, exact time of pick etc. The timing of such messages (like, when the trip
starts for a pick trip or half an hour before the actual pick etc.) and the message content is freely
programmable in the system and message dispatch is fully automatic. This automatic messaging is
major boon for the added security which any management will love to have for its’ employees.
MIS and Billing sub-system –
There is a large number of
operational (on-line) and post-mortem reports available from the
system. Most of these reports are GIS integrated and highlights both
macro and micro dimensions (batch level, trip level, employee level,
vehicle utilization graph etc.). Apart from graphical integration, most
important reports like Trip summary and details, Vehicle utilization
report etc. are available in Excel format download for off-line
analysis. The permanently stored data can be used very effectively
for even detailed transport vendor billing and
audits when any GPS based billing not available.
The planning data, is perhaps most importantly
and effectively used in monitoring process of trips,
since without a proper planning process, no
effective monitoring is possible on a large scale
(with or without GPS implementation). The on-line
“Planned versus Actual” report is the most useful
tool for timely and cost-effective control of any
modern transport fleet.
Enterprise System Model –
The latest Enterprise system
model allows large organizations with multi city, multi hub
establishments to run the system on one large server giving
access to all hubs through either WAN of their own or through
normal broad band Internet. Each Hub operates the system like
their own dedicated system but organization level aggregation
for reporting etc. is possible. The major benefit comes from
centralized server and map repository maintenance, upkeep,
security and upgrades. Typically centralized server configuration
also offers cost reduction on licenses, maintenance, access and
on-line MIS (comparative, sensitivity analysis etc.).
Dynamic Map Maintenance –
The new Enterprise model for large customers also offers
facilities for basic Map maintenance by client personnel suitably trained. The facilities include
creation and changing of road categories, one-way settings, dynamic geographical zoning
changes, entity name changes etc.

GeoMonitor : Tracking, Alerts and Events
GeoVision India
The GeoMonitor is a web based, secured access service
which essentially integrates the operation of the vehicle
hardware and the application front end, running on a
remotely hosted server. The movement of any vehicle on
the roads, along with any events (like pick, drop, break
etc.) or Alerts (like Panic, Speed violation, No-show etc.) are
captured as time and position tagged records on-line by the GPRS communication channel. All
normal time tagged position records as well as event records are suitably stored and shown on live
(GIS) map along with plan deviations and alert records. The reports include complete analysis
possibilities including distance traveled, plan non-conformances, route deviations etc. This
application is specially tailored for people movement requirements of ready and on-line
information about multi vehicle fleets and MIS information base for transport vendor management
and is fully integrated with other up-stream and down-stream application packages within
GeoPeople suite.
Advanced Device Integration –
Globally renowned brand of hardware is used in
GeoMonitor system. The resident program in the hardware device (so-called firmware) is highly
flexible and therefore, is suitably developed so that the best and most effective features of the
device are extracted to offer best application enrichment possible. The integrated application
development also ensured that the server
side mediation software is optimized for
mediating between the database and the
device, communicating over on-line and offline (data loss prevention) wireless GSM
network. A host of data purging, data
cleaning and corrections are involved in the
mediation software to take care of unusual
and erroneous data received (or not
received) from device to database. The
issues of data latency, data corruption etc. are major bottlenecks for any AVL system solution and
GeoMonitor has very robust and versatile design to handle all such issues.
On-line Aggregated Tracking View –
Site or
Hub level aggregated tracking view screen presents the
entire fleet under the hub management (or a subset of it
for a specific user) on a full city, moving view of vehicles.
Each vehicle is constantly monitored and each of them
acquire color and icon dynamically to highlight it’s status
at any given point of time. So at a glance, from a map
having hundreds of vehicles, the vehicle which is for
instance, is exceeding speed limit set by client, will stand
out through its’ red color and triangle icon. Also all vehicles are grouped on the right hand side
under the status grouping, from which any one could be clicked on to move into the specific
vehicle close look including immediate history etc. This screen is typically the common screen
from which multiple individual tracking screens can be explored where the vehicles need
attention due it’s’ status. The same screen, apart from showing the alert status, also keeps

operational parameters constantly under vigil and even an operational alert like “no-show” of an
employee also attracts attention by it’s color and icon the same way other alerts will. There are
windows at the bottom of the screen to display dynamically the number of individual events at
any point of time as compared to planned numbers at that point which generally is very good
indicators of process conformance or deviations. In short this a vital visual aid to have macro level
view of your fleets with every micro level deviations or aberrations highlighted for detail study,
advance or in-time actions and therefore, saves enormous effort otherwise needed to keep a
close track of events occurring dynamically.
On-line
Individual View – From the
Aggregate screen, depending on necessity, one can
jump to individual vehicle view through a click of a
button. The number of screens begins with the
Planned versus Actual view, which contains the
vehicle details including location, driver, registration

vehicle moves in real time over the map which is zoom-able or
pan-able. There are multiple views directly navigable from this
screen, which include Trace, meaning, for a selectable time
window where all the vehicle went in the immediate past, or
even Replay, which means again for a selectable time
window, how the vehicle actually moved over the geography
complete with odometer, speed and time elapsed etc.
Post-Trip Views –
From the on-line monitoring situation, any completed trips are
automatically created as permanent records with all positional and event wise records being part
of stored records. Aggregate trip summary gives
idea about all vehicles for a day and drill down
facility allows going into any vehicle and any trip
directly from there. These reports make the final
vendor wise or vehicle wise Billing details
available for future analysis and month wise
reporting. The storage of every trip data helps
also towards conflict management and audit of
all transportation tasks much more manageable
Integration with Planning Software –
The major advantages in terms of efficiency and
schedule conformance checking could be possible when the GeoMonitor software and services
are integrated with an upstream pre-journey planning package. The critical on-line analysis and
alert generation becomes possible which in turn ensures proactive actions and a lot of savings in
terms of delays, floor level shortages, backup planning, Security of employees and quick reaction
calamity prevention measures.
Security Messaging –
The associations with planning package (GeoRouter) and the
GeoMonitor software and the vehicle hardware ensure very advanced automatic messaging
setups. For instance the dynamic geo fencing facility in the hardware can be programmed to
send direct SMS to employee when the vehicle is approaching her place so that she does not
make herself vulnerable at odd hours waiting for the car on the road, or the driver is not allowed
to know or waste time in reaching her place or a wrong car is allowed to pick her. The description

of car and driver on a SMS directly to an employee’s phone at right time could generate a lot of
confidence in employee’s mind regarding the security of the system.
Scare-Away and Cordless Panic Button –
There is provision for cordless panic button
in the vehicle hardware. The buttons can be mounted anywhere in the car or even the compact
elegant yet cheap buttons can be given to each employee to carry on her person. In case of
assault inside the car or very near to it, the employee could use her own button to trigger the
panic recovery routines. The control room in informed pronto and a set of SMSs can be triggered
directly by the vehicle hardware to a set of responsible people, even if the GPRS connection is
weak. The crisis mitigation can be best achieved if the Scare-away siren and flasher unit is installed
in the car. The triggering of such scare-away actually achieves the best results in driving away the
assaulter by simply attracting too much attention to itself. Any panic struck car is typically
monitored continuously and the police can be very easily directed to even a fleeing car very
easily. Also if the vehicle is provided with speaker and microphone unit for normal voice
communication through our hardware (standard accessory), the mic can be used at these times
to establish SPY call which means that without making
any incoming ring sound the car unit is connected to
remote control room and any conversation or noise
can be heard and recorded at control room. The
security control strategy can be such that once the
panic button is pressed, first reconfirmation of the
genuineness of the threat is first ascertained by the spy
mic and then the scare –away is activated at right
moment so not to endanger the passengers safety.
MIS and Post Mortems –
There are a number of
reports available on all the parameters meticulously recorded
during each trip undertaken by vehicles. They include
aggregates based on daily summary from which one can drill
down to the minutest details of any trip and not only view each
events and alerts registered during trip and the whole trip can
be replayed on actual map on a compressed time scale.
Separate reports are available on specific parameters both on
aggregate scale and individual scale and additional reports on
customized formats can be developed on very quick time as
and when required. Details vendor billing is also available.
Over-the-air Programming and Data Security –
OTA programming mean that the
individual vehicle hardware does not need any physical
proximity to even get itself programmed by the control room
computer. This helps to dynamically control the functioning of
the field unit any time and without delay as well as changing
parameters as per changing situations. All data (close to
seven days) acquired by the vehicle unit is continuously
stored in the memory of the unit and the GeoMonitor
software is capable of retrieving any data which is missing in
it’s database for any reason like GSM black spots, GPS noncoverage etc. Such bulk data is typically transferred to the
control room using the fast CSD channel of the GSM phone
channels. All data stored in the vehicle units are non-volatile
and hence never erased on its own.
