The Cape Breton Miners Museum in Glace Bay pays tribute
to the contribution of the region’s coal miners and coal
mining industry. Many of the Gaelic residents of the Island
were lured from their communities to work in the mines.
The Miners Village allows you to step back in time and visit
a company store and a home from the period 1850–1900.
Summer Music Program
Lessons in fiddle, piano, guitar and stepdancing for
all ages, Mon, Wed, Thu and Fri, July 4 - Aug 12
Take an underground guided tour of the Ocean Deeps Colliery,
a coal mine beneath the museum. During summer months,
be sure to attend a concert with the Men of the Deeps,
a renowned chorus of coal miners.

RITA’S TEA ROOM
STRATHSPEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
Enjoy warm hospitality, leisurely lunches, and home-style
goodies (including our popular oat cakes) at Rita’s Tea Room
in Big Pond. Situated in a converted one-room schoolhouse,
Cape Breton singer/songwriter Rita MacNeil lived there for
a few years inviting many people to drop by for a cup of tea
– a well known Cape Breton tradition. The tea room displays
awards and photographs from Rita’s remarkable career.
Situated in Mabou, Strathspey Place features the rich
diversified musical culture of Cape Breton. The Island’s
Scottish culture is celebrated through our Celtic music, and
our Acadian and First Nations communities complement and
enrich Cape Breton’s traditional music, dance and folklore.
Our 488-seat theatre provides excellent acoustics, making
every performance memorable.
The “Songs on Sunday” concert series runs throughout July and
August and includes a concert and a Turkey Dinner. The series
will feature many of Cape Breton’s Celtic musicians.
Mixing the energy of youth with the culture of tradition, “Brìgh”
is a musical production that features traditional music, dance,
stories and humour from featured forefathers of Scottish music
Jerry Holland, Buddy MacMaster and Theresa MacLellan.
