May June 2016 - Knights of Columbus Council 8951
KNIGHT MOVES May/June, 2016 Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Council #8951, Port Perry Ontario Best Overall Council in Ontario 1997-98, 2011-12, 2013-14 Chaplain’s Message Grand Knight’s Message Father Marco Testa Christopher Lazure Dear Brother Knights, Families and Brother Knights, The Great Feasts of the Paschal Mystery have been celebrated and we now look forward to the beautiful Feasts of Corpus Christi and the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. These latter Feasts speak to the tenderness of God's mercy and love for us. Our Lord fulfils His promise to remain with us always in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar and He beckons us to His Sacred Heart. Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus are one and the same for in the Eucharist we receive the gift of His Eucharistic Heart. Families & brothers, the “Be a Difference” for this month is LOVE! I knew this had to be the topic because of the homily this week and the fact that we need more of it in our lives. LOVE is a powerful word, it tells someone that you care for them, it tells of your commitment to them and it can warm up a heart just by saying the word. I see all the hatred, from our community to the world, and we need more love. We sing, read and pray for it but we still do not have enough. So what are some ways to express our love? I will start by expressing my love of the council and their families for opening their arms to our family 8 years ago. You have made us part of the family ever since. What else can we do? Have you told your spouse or your children how much you really love them? Not with just a peck on the cheek and an “I love you”…maybe a card, a text, an email or better yet a hug in person to let someone know you care. A prayer that says to God that you would LOVE peace on earth. A smile and a hand shake to show the respect of your neighbour and that you LOVE them for being around. It sounds like it might be hokie but if each of us just tries to LOVE one more person or remember to express your love for someone we can start to be a better place….One hug at a time! The Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced for our salvation is a symbol of all that we are called to be: men whose lives are defined by sacrificial love. A word of encouragement to all of you to make the Nine First Fridays: Confession, Holy Communion and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Surely this will make better men of all of us. Devotedly Yours in Our Lord's Most Sacred Heart, Fr. Marco Vivat Jesus! Christopher Lazure Grand Knight 905-985-4556 Knight Moves – May/June 2016 Immaculate Conception Council #8951 Monthly Newsletter District Deputy’s Message David Robertson - District 70 Brothers, If you recall in the March edition of this newsletter I predicted who would win the awards at our banquet and as you know or don’t know I am not part of the selection process, well let me tell you the Grand Knight did a perfect job and made the right choices in the same people as I had chosen. Which brings me to the point of this story, one week before the elections my predictions for the 2016/2017 Financial Year executive committee members for Council #8951 and once again if I write them down it may sway your decision on who is there to voice your opinion, so just like in political elections if you don’t come out to the meeting and cast your vote, in case of multiple nominations, then don’t complain about the candidates selected. What a busy time of year for our Council and our fund raising activities like our Annual, once again thanks to our chairman Harry Vandenberg, Yard Sale, so come on out and be part of this great community event, whether you sell or buy just be part of it. Similar thanks go to Corry Kerstens, chairman of the Golf tournament to be held on the 11th June, just in case you don’t know. Both of these events would not be possible without the cooperation of all members, spouses and their children so give yourself a pat on the back for helping us what we do best…..help others. As this financial year comes to a close, as your District Deputy, I would like to say with deepest sincerity how thankful and grateful I am to be part of the “Best Council” in District 70 and that is only because of YOU and I look forward to serving you again next Session. God Bless, D/D District #70 David MEMBERSHIP Please invite and welcome men of our parish to join our Knights of Columbus council. Consider advancing your degree!
