Dear Brother Knights,
Families and Brother Knights,
The Great Feasts of the Paschal Mystery have been
celebrated and we now look forward to the beautiful
Feasts of Corpus Christi and the Feast of the Sacred
Heart of Jesus. These latter Feasts speak to the
tenderness of God's mercy and love for us. Our Lord
fulfils His promise to remain with us always in the
Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar and He beckons
us to His Sacred Heart. Devotion to the Blessed
Sacrament and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus are one
and the same for in the Eucharist we receive the gift
of His Eucharistic Heart.
Families & brothers, the “Be a Difference” for this
month is LOVE! I knew this had to be the topic because
of the homily this week and the fact that we need more
of it in our lives. LOVE is a powerful word, it tells
someone that you care for them, it tells of your
commitment to them and it can warm up a heart just by
saying the word. I see all the hatred, from our
community to the world, and we need more love. We
sing, read and pray for it but we still do not have
enough. So what are some ways to express our love? I
will start by expressing my love of the council and their
families for opening their arms to our family 8 years
ago. You have made us part of the family ever since.
What else can we do? Have you told your spouse or
your children how much you really love them? Not with
just a peck on the cheek and an “I love you”…maybe a
card, a text, an email or better yet a hug in person to let
someone know you care. A prayer that says to God that
you would LOVE peace on earth. A smile and a hand
shake to show the respect of your neighbour and that
you LOVE them for being around. It sounds like it might
be hokie but if each of us just tries to LOVE one more
person or remember to express your love for someone
we can start to be a better place….One hug at a time!
The Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced for our salvation is
a symbol of all that we are called to be: men whose
lives are defined by sacrificial love. A word of
encouragement to all of you to make the Nine First
Fridays: Confession, Holy Communion and Adoration
of the Blessed Sacrament. Surely this will make better
men of all of us.
Devotedly Yours in Our Lord's Most Sacred Heart,
Fr. Marco
Vivat Jesus!

District Deputy’s Message
David Robertson - District 70
Brothers,
If you recall in the March edition of this newsletter I predicted who would win the awards at our
banquet and as you know or don’t know I am not part of the selection process, well let me tell you the
Grand Knight did a perfect job and made the right choices in the same people as I had chosen. Which
brings me to the point of this story, one week before the elections my predictions for the 2016/2017
Financial Year executive committee members for Council #8951 and once again if I write them down it
may sway your decision on who is there to voice your opinion, so just like in political elections if you
don’t come out to the meeting and cast your vote, in case of multiple nominations, then don’t complain
about the candidates selected.
What a busy time of year for our Council and our fund raising activities like our Annual, once again
thanks to our chairman Harry Vandenberg, Yard Sale, so come on out and be part of this great
community event, whether you sell or buy just be part of it. Similar thanks go to Corry Kerstens,
chairman of the Golf tournament to be held on the 11th June, just in case you don’t know. Both of these
events would not be possible without the cooperation of all members, spouses and their children so give
yourself a pat on the back for helping us what we do best…..help others.
As this financial year comes to a close, as your District Deputy, I would like to say with deepest sincerity
how thankful and grateful I am to be part of the “Best Council” in District 70 and that is only because of
YOU and I look forward to serving you again next Session.
God Bless,
D/D District #70 David

Accomplishments and Achievements
April and the beginning of May has been a very busy time for Council #8951.
The 113th Ontario State Knights of Columbus Convention was held on April 22 – 24th at the International
Plaza Hotel in Toronto. District Deputy David Robertson attended with Grand Knight Chris Lazure and
Treasurer Todd Beck who will provide updates at the next General meeting. Congratulations to Council
#8951 for winning the Trillium Award and Runner-up Division 3 Youth Project – Youth Canoe Race.
On May 5th, our two local schools held a Fun Fair at Good Shepherd school. This was a a night of
fellowship and fun designed to get the students, families and staff of the two schools together. The
event featured games, food and other events and our Council held a basketball free throw event in the
gymnasium. Prizes were awarded to the winners in each grade from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.
Everyone definitely enjoyed the fair!
On May 6th was the annual Youth Canoe Race hosted by Brother Mike Kennedy on the canal in Holland
Landing. Over 150 high school students participated in this event designed to introduce students to the
sport of marathon canoing. For many of the students this was the first time ever in a canoe! Brother
Knights Todd Beck, Rob Hartman, Paul Robinet and Mac Sheahan handled the starting, timing and
scoring duties for the day.

The Scugog soccer fields played host to two large regional tournaments the weekend of May 7 and May
14. Over 65 girls teams competed the first weekend and over 55 boys teams the second weekend. As
part of our community partnership with the Scugog Soccer Association, Knights volunteered to run the
barbecue as a fundraiser for the soccer club. Although the second weekend was cold and rainy a steady
stream of hotdogs, bacon on a bun and hamburgers were served to the competitors and their families.
The annual March for Life in Ottawa was held on May 12th. The Council provided part of the funding for
the bus from Immaculate Conception. A number of Knights from our Council participated in this
important event. Check out Brother Vince Gedge’s videos from the event by searching YouTube for the
St. Joseph Channel, or go to the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY2AO14KgoI
We had one Council team and one Squires team compete in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids
Sake event at Parish Lanes in Uxbridge on Saturday, May 14th.
Our Council supported the Notre Dame Council #8549 by purchasing a table to attend their annual Steak
and Lobster fundraiser dinner on Saturday, May 14th. It was another great night of food and
entertainment! Attendees won tickets in the 50/50 draw at the April meeting.
Announcing the Knights of Columbus Bursary for Immaculate Conception Council #8951. The $500 will

Project Hope Update: Family is so important that we as a council are spearheading bringing a family to
Port Perry from Syria. In partnership with the Diocese of Toronto and our parish we have submitted our
application to welcome a Christian family to the Port Perry area. The organizers are working to match a
family and finalize the timing for their arrival and hope to have them here in the Fall. The family will be
in desperate need of food, clothing, friendship and help. We as a Knights family and even broader, a
parish family will be there to help this family in their time of need. Be the Difference and contact
