LED LIGHTING FOR CHURCH
Over the next few week we will begin the process of changing the
lighting throughout the church building. While the cost is significant
($18,000), hopefully our monthly electric bill will reflect significant
savings, not to mention the cost savings of long life LED bulbs.
SYNOD NOTES
Our Parish Synod Commission has been trained by the diocese.
The Commission will be meeting next month to discuss a 2 year
roadmap for our parish including:
• Growing our parish
• Increasing number of people attending mass
• Review Mass schedule
• Parish Service and Outreach Programs
WE REMEMBER YOU, O RISEN LORD
We remember you, O risen Lord,
New Covenant at the feast of the cross.
Your resurrection dresses the table
for the bread of heaven and the cup of salvation.
Blessed are you!
BEGINNING AND END
Faith is the beginning and the end is love.

St. Matthew Parish Bereavement Ministry
The St. Matthew Parish Bereavement Ministry is extending an
invitation to grieving parishioners to join our weekly group meetings.
The purpose of these meetings is to provide spiritual and group
support to families grieving the loss of a loved one. St. Matthew
Counselors will facilitate the groups, which have a different topic for
each session. Topics include learning about grief, self care, spiritual
healing and finding meaning in loss. The topic can also be one that a
group member has introduced. There will be six weekly sessions
beginning Thursday, April 7th, 2016. The sessions are from 6:00pm
to 7:30pm and meet in the conference room. There is no fee, however,
registration is necessary. There is room for 15 people so please
register by April 1st. To register, or for questions, contact Sr. Sally
Norcross at (203) 838-3788, ext. 118.

USCCB President Urges Support for Petition to Stop

As a people of faith, we must convince the United States
Department of State to include Christians in any formal
declaration of genocide. For months, the Catholic Church
has been a voice for Christians and other religious
minorities facing the evil of deadly persecution. Now , the
State Department is expected to make a decision within
days. A resolution, H. Con. Res. 75, is also gaining
bipartisan support in Congress. Please, make sure your
name is added to the wi tness. The very future of the
ancient Christian presence in the Middle East is at stake.
I am grateful to my brother bishops, the Knights of Columbus and all the faithful who have struggled to keep a
focus on suffering Christians in the national debate. Rest
assured of my continued prayers and support.
With each passing day, the roll of modem martyrs
grows. While we rejoice in their ultimate victory over
death through the power of Jesus' love, we must also
help our fellow Christians c a r r y the Cross of persecution and, as much as possible , help relieve their suffering. By doing so, the Middle East and the world will be
made safer for people of every faith to live in peace.

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
A Big Thank You to my parish family of St. Matthew
This is to inform you that my term as the Director General of CHAI comes to an end on April 30, 2016. Rev. Dr.
Mathew Abraham will be my successor. The past five years have been a wonderful faith journey that I have had working
at CHAI as its Director General. You have been a very big part of that journey. I could always count on each of you for
your prayerful and financial support. A big thank you to each one of you. Without you, I could not have done it. My
sincere appreciation and gratitude to Msgr. Walter who allowed me to come to St. Matthew so often and to raise funds
for the needs of CHAI. I have learned a lot from each one of you as to how to be generous. At CHAI, because of you,
we have been able to achieve a lot in the past five years. We have supported a lot of children in need. We have been able
to provide for people who were ill and the list goes on. Last, but not the least, we will open the doors of the 25 bed
palliative care center on April 26, 2016. This has been possible because of St. Matthew.
Just to give you a brief note about my successor - Rev. Dr. Mathew Abraham, will be taking over from me effective May
1, 2016. He has completed medical training (MBBS) from Kottayam Medical College and completed his post graduate
(MD in Community Medicine) from the Christian Medical College, Vellore.
Responding to the higher call to “heal rather than treat”, Rev. Dr. Mathew took Holy Orders thereby effectively merging
his basic spirituality and the wealth of clinical and community experience gathered during medical training. Rev. Dr.
Mathew was appointed the Executive Secretary to the Catholic Bishops Conference of India Health Commission and he
served in this position from August, 2008, to August, 2015.
Rev. Dr. Matthew, a doctor turned priest is a good friend of mine. We have worked together for the past 4 years in the
health ministry. I am sure you will continue to extend all possible support to him and to CHAI in particular.
I want to thank you personally for all the support you extended to CHAI. May God continue to bless you. I will surely
keep you and your family in my prayers. Wish you a Happy Easter and many God’s Blessings. Fr. Tomi Thomas, IMS
