About Trident Technical College
Trident Technical College’s vision is to be a leader among two-year
colleges in providing diverse and innovative educational programs and
services in a highly technical and competitive global environment. The
College has identified four strategic goals to support this vision:
Accessibility - To enable all members of the tri-county community to pursue or continue higher education.
Main Campus
Stewardship - To become a model of fiscal, community and
environmental responsibility, promoting these concepts at every level of the institution.
Community Prominence - To increase the College’s prominence in the region as a provider of educational services and a
promoter of economic development.
Engagement - To build a community of learners in which all students, faculty, staff and administrators are active participants in and adherents to the principles of lifelong learning.
TTC serves approximately 12,000 students on three campuses located
in North Charleston, downtown Charleston and Moncks Corner. More
than 90 percent of the College’s students are permanent residents of
Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Most are balancing
their pursuit of higher education with family and job responsibilities.

The Mission of the
Foundation
Established in 1975, the Trident
Technical College Foundation
exists to raise funds to help bridge
the gap between needs and
resources for TTC students and
employees. The Foundation
operates independently of
the College as a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit corporation.
The Board of Trustees is comprised
of individuals from the tri-county
area who are corporate, industry,
civic and philanthropic leaders.
They carry out the aims and purposes of the Foundation and set policies
governing its affairs, assets and property.
TTC Foundation Financial Summary
In 2005-2006, Foundation assets increased from $5,679,396 to
$5,950,931. In addition, donors established nine new funds, and the
Foundation distributed $510,208 to support students, faculty, staff and
programs. In 2005, the Foundation completed the first capital campaign
in the 41-year history of the College, raising more than $3 million in
private funds to support the renovation of the Complex for Economic
Development. The Foundation holds nearly $6 million in investments
and assets and seeks to provide for long-term growth of income and
principal without undue exposure to risk.

Minigrant Program
The Foundation’s Minigrant Program, established in 1991, enhances the
learning experience of TTC students and helps bridge the gap between
instructional needs and departmental budgetary constraints. Faculty and
staff members may apply for grants (up to $1,200) that directly benefit
and/or enhance students’ classroom experiences and are consistent
with the College’s mission. In 2005-06, the Foundation received more
than 100 applications totaling $95,000 and was able to fund 43 requests
totaling $49,483. Purchases included much-needed teaching equipment
in 22 departments – including analog trainers, valve cut-away models
and an intubation manikin.
Tuition Assistance and Credit Course
Assistance Programs
Valve cut-away models,
purchased by the mini-grant program,
support training in the
College’s Division of
Industrial and Engineering
Technology.
The Foundation supports professional and personal growth opportunities
for full-time, permanent faculty and staff by providing financial
support for employees to take credit courses. In 2005-06 the
Foundation provided $64,898 to more than 87 employees who
successfully completed 477 credit hours at TTC and 16 other
accredited colleges.
Patrick E. Ringwald Memorial Culinary Garden
The Patrick E. Ringwald Foundation and the Trident Technical College
Foundation have worked together to secure more than $140,000
to develop a culinary garden at the College’s Culinary Institute of
Charleston to honor Patrick Ringwald. This garden has become
a focal point of the campus and
will provide a unique opportunity
for the College’s culinary students
to develop hands-on experience
in selecting, growing and harvesting
herbs and produce.
Sheila Wertimer, noted landscape architect, designed the memorial
garden on Main Campus.
8
Culinary Institute of Charleston
The Annual Vintners Dinner and Wine Expo, hosted by
Southern Wine & Spirits of South Carolina and the TTC
Foundation, is the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the
year. The first night, students of the Culinary Institute
of Charleston prepare and serve a four-course dinner
with wine pairings to 550 guests. One thousand guests
join us in the College Center for a wine tasting and food
extravaganza on the second day of our event. Every
year, more than 1,500 wine enthusiasts and culinary
connoisseurs look forward to these two events.
Funds raised by the
Foundation provide
scholarships and other
forms of financial
assistance to students
as well as professional
development, classroom
equipment, and resources
for instructors.
9
TTC Foundation Donors
Between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006, the Foundation received $623,996 from 1,138 individuals and
organizations. Donors who wished to have their names in the annual report are listed first by contribution level
and then by contribution designation. In-kind donors and 2006 Campus Campaign donors (TTC employees)
are not listed under contribution levels.
Every effort has been made to list correctly each contributor during fiscal year 2005-2006 (July 1 – June 30).
If we have inadvertently made an omission or incorrect listing, please contact the Foundation at
