Congratulations to our rugby league team and Mr Sallustio for
Congratulations to our rugby league team and
Mr Sallustio for defeating Tweed Heads South
PS 18 – nil last Friday. It was a tremendous
effort for the boys to travel all the way to the
border and produce great football against a
quality team. A huge thank you to our supportive
parents and their families who made the long
journey north. Today our boys are playing the
winner of the North West NSW division Ross Hill
PS. I’m sure they will be doing themselves, their
coach and their school proud. Good luck boys.
We will be taking spectators from Years 5 and 6.
Children wearing the school hat and school
uniform will be able to attend. Numbers are
limited due to bus sizes.
Enrolling Now for Kindergarten 2014
We are currently taking Kindergarten enrolments
for 2014. If you have a child who turns 5 by July
31, 2014 then you need to complete an
enrolment form. Please feel free to visit our
school and collect an information pack including
an enrolment form from our friendly office staff.
It is helpful for us to receive these completed
forms by the end of Term 3 2013 so we can start
to plan our 2014 classes and make staffing
decisions. If you do not live in our School Zone
you will be required to complete an Out of Zone
enrolment form. If you are in this situation I
would advise you to submit your forms ASAP as
you will be placed on a priority list depending on
the date the form has been received at school.
If you have relatives or friends who have a child
commencing school next year please pass on
this message. New parents are welcome to
contact myself or Mrs Pelley our Deputy
Principal to discuss your child and/or what
Wauchope PS has to offer.
We will be hosting an Information Evening on
Tuesday 5 November in the school hall between
6:00pm and 7:00pm. This will include an
information session, school tour and light
supper. We are experimenting with hosting a
Playgroup every Tuesday and Thursday
afternoon where children can attend with their
parents between 1:45pm and 3:00pm in the old
school hall. One of our current Kindergarten
teachers will be on hand to talk to parents and
undertake fun activities with the children. Our
Kinder Start program where children come to
school each morning for a week will commence
on Monday 4 November.
There is also a wealth of information about WPS
on our school website:

Cyberbullying - prevention tips for parents
The statistics around cyberbullying are sketchy,
mainly because it often goes unreported. What
we do know is that the likelihood of children
being bullied online or over the phone increases
as they get older and use technology more
frequently.

How much screen time?
‘Screen time' used to mean how many hours you
spent watching TV and playing on the computer.
However, with the growing number of digital
devices on offer today, the question of what
screen time means now is far more complex.

When lunch comes home ... again
Almost nine out of 10 Australian parents say
children's resistance is a major obstacle in their
efforts to provide a healthy diet, and in many
cases school lunches are one of the
battlegrounds. But it's a battle families can do
without and there are some simple steps to help
avoid it.

Benefits of team sports
If you want your child to grow up to be a
confident and well-adjusted adult, then team
sports may well be the answer. Playing a team
sport provides kids with important lessons in
personal values.

Rugby League
Last Thursday the Wauchope P.S. Rugby
League team travelled all the way up to the
Queensland border to play Tweed Heads South
P.S. When we arrived at our destination, we all
checked into our accommodation and then met
down at the local sportsground for a light training
session. Later that evening, Mr Sallustio and our
parents organised a team dinner at the local
Sports Club. On Friday it was gameday! Our
opponents, like us, were also undefeated with
impressive attack and defence records. Our
team played tremendous, with everyone
contributing their part, and with that, we
eventually won the game 18-0 becoming North
Coast champions! Try scorers were David H,
Tony T and Sam I. Goal scorers were Lachlan
M, Tony T and Sam I. We now play Ross Hill
P.S. from Inverell in the NSW Quarter Finals.
Thank you to Mr Sallustio who organised the trip
and coached us and a big thank you to all our
parents who drove us up for our game.

Netball News
Last Friday, our netball team travelled to Coffs
Harbour to play Round 5 of the PSSA netball
knockout against Narranga PS. Whilst we were
leading at half time, it was only by four goals but
with sheer determination and skill our girls won
the game 31-15. This was a fantastic effort by
the whole team. A big thank you to all our mums
who transported the girls and especially Anna
Lewis who umpired. We even had a guest
appearance by a certain school principal who
was very excited and manage to slip away from
his principal’s conference for just a little while to
watch us play!
We now go on to play round 6 against either
Maclean PS or Yamba PS.

to.
This is for all volunteers’ whether volunteering in
the Canteen/Classroom or on P & C/Whoosh
committees. Once you receive your certificate
please take a copy to the schools front office
addressed to the P& C.
This is free for all volunteers and is a changed
process for working with children checks.
The Commission for Children and Young People
(CCYP) is implementing a new Working With
Children Check (WWCC) from 15 June 2013.
This means changes for us all, including a
different way to apply to the Early Childhood
Education and Care Directorate for approvals
and supervisor certificates.
Effective immediately, all WWCCs must go
through the Commission.
Individuals (childcare workers and volunteers)
will now have to apply directly to the
Commission to obtain their WWCC.
This is a simple two-step process:
1.
Fill in an online form or call the CCYP’s
helpline to have someone fill in a form for you.
2.
Take the application number to a motor
registry or government access centre and have
your identity confirmed.
(You will need to take appropriate identification
with you.)
If you have already submitted an application of
any kind, you will be notified by the Directorate if
you need to re-apply to CCYP for your WWCC.
For further information about the new WWCC
and how to apply, go to the Please go to this
website:
http://www.kids.nsw.gov.au/Working-withchildren/New-Working-with-Children-Check
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this
matter. -P & CSchool Fete - Our School Fete is a huge event
and requires lots and lots of volunteers for the

P &C IMPORTANT NEWS
I would like to take this opportunity to let you
know what our P&C Association does
The playground equipment was installed in April
2012 with the entire funding of over $60,000
coming from the P&C through the funds raised
from the Fete, Canteen and WOOSH. Also in
2012 the P&C has either paid for or contributed
to, with the assistance of the Canteen and
WOOSH, the following: $5,000 worth of new
home readers, air conditioners for the music
room and library, additional sun shelters and
many other worthwhile items. These and many
other positive contributions clearly typify the
P&C’s fundamental role, illustrating the
significant impact the association can have.
Each year the P&C asks for a voluntary financial
contribution of $25.00 per child or $40.00 per
family to support the P&C Association.
A letter and envelope are available at the front
office for your convenience or if you prefer you

On Wednesday 14 August all the students in
Year 1 met two local fire fighters named Brian
and Jess. We learned how to be safe during a
fire. We saw all the gear firemen wear when
fighting fires. We had a close look at a fire truck
and we got to watch Mr Beard squirting water
out of a fire hose. It was a lot of fun.
