province. Visit its four HI hostels and take a trip across the province’s multifaceted personality!
Ontario is yours to discover!
Choose the dynamic cultural diversity of Canada’s largest city, Toronto – nearly half of its
inhabitants come from abroad – or the world class museums of Ottawa, the country’s capital
city. Crazy about nature? The hostel in Maynooth, a small village in northern Ontario, is close
to the magnificent Algonquin Park. And finally no one should ever miss the most popular
natural wonder in the country: Niagara Falls. The hostel offers a handful of activities to

EXPERIENCE THE CITY LIKE A MONTREALER
Montréal is a thriving mix of Europe and America: it’s sexy,
bohemian, greedy (for food) and festive. To live and let live
seems to be the general attitude in this multicultural city
that’s always boasting with a festival or two. Every neighborhood in Montréal has its own ambience, local shops,
architecture and unique people. They’re worth exploring by
foot or on bike. The HI-Montréal and HI-Montréal SaintAntoine hostels are right downtown, steps away from the Bell
Centre.

TOP 8 ACTIVITIES TO DO IN MONTRÉAL
THE MOUNT ROYAL TAM-TAMS
It’s bohemian Montréal’s most iconic happening. Every summer Sunday thousands of
people gather at the foot of mount Royal to dance to the rhythms of bongos and other
percussions. Or they’re simply having a good time in the sun.
PIKNIC ELECTRONIK / IGLOOFEST
Piknic Elektronic is an electronic music festival that welcomes some of the world’s best DJs,
every Sunday on St. Helen’s island with a view over the St. Lawrence and downtown. Igloofest
uses the same formula during three weekends of January, in an ice world built on the quays
of the Old Port. The whole event is an unofficial tacky winter suit contest. Just so you know.
MONTRÉAL ON TWO WHEELS
Montréal is meant to be discovered by bike. The Maisonneuve cycling path crosses downtown from West to East. The Lachine Canal path follows the canal from Old Montréal to the
beautiful René-Lévesque park with a stop at Atwater farmer’s market. Another path leaves
Old Montréal and crosses Montréal’s coolest northern neighborhoods: the Latin Quarter, the
Plateau, Rosemont-Petite-Patrie, Little Italy, and Villeray.
MONTRÉAL FOODS
Montréal is a foodie’s city. One can’t leave without tasting a smoked meat sandwich, a
Montréal style bagel from Fairmount or St-Viateur, a big poutine or baked beans (cooked in
maple syrup not tomatoes) from La Binerie. We’re not even talking about the many coffee
shops taking the art of Espresso to new heights.
POINTE-À-CALLIÈRES MUSEUM
This museum is about Montréal’s history and it’s built right on the spot where the city was
founded. So you won’t find the restrooms in the basement but some of the city’s earliest
settlements such as its first cemetery. A series of small scale models retraces the city’s
evolution.
THE MOUNT ROYAL
It’s the lung of Montréal, a haven of peace in the heart of the city. The mount Royal park – or
the Mountain as the locals say – was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of New
York’s Central Park. The downtown views from the summit are breathtaking.
JEAN-TALON MARKET
North America’s biggest open-air market, in Little Italy, sells fresh produces from the region
as well as foods from all over the world. The Marché des Saveurs is a mecca for Québec
made products and alcohol.
THE HOSTEL'S BAR TOUR
The HI-Montréal hostel’s pub crawls are legendary and they’re the best way to discover the
city’s bustling nightlife. The hostel takes you out three times a week, each time in a different
