May - Hunt County Woodturners
Hunt County Woodturners, Inc. May 2013 http://www.huntcountywoodturners.org May 2013 Volume 8, Issue 5 Hunt County Woodturners, Inc. Meeting and Location: 2nd Thursday of each month, 7 PM Crestview Christian Church 5605 Wesley Street Greenville, TX 75402 Message from the President: Hello wood turners. We start this month with heavy hearts as we mourn the passing of Margie Hendrix. Margie was a long time member and the Historian of the Hunt County Woodturners. She faithfully attended all the meetings and always took an active part at the signup table. Margie’s presence will be greatly missed. Please pray for the Hendrix family during this difficult time. The May club meeting will feature our second Quarterly Challenge. The subject is anything chattered. We will feature the items entered in the challenge in the Hunt County Fair display. Our goal is to have a large Fair display showcasing the talents of as many of our members as possible. The Hunt County Fair will be June 7th through 15th and once again our focus will be turning Freedom Pens. Thanks to the organizing efforts of Mark Spenser and Frank Shrode we are well on our way to having the pens ready to turn. We will are signing up volunteers to work the booth at the Fair both on line and at the meeting. Please sign up early and let’s get the shifts staffed so we will be ready to turn all those pens. The Fair is our biggest local event and it provides us an opportunity to introduce many people to what woodturning is all about and how enjoyable it can be as a hobby. Hope to see you Thursday at the meeting. Well, we are going to have our own version of that game. From time to time I will place pictures of newmembers and reinstated members in the newsletter. The first person to come and tell me the names of all the pictures will receive 1 door prize ticket. I hope to encourage everyone to get to know and encourage our new members. So here we go……….. NOTE: Board members are not eligible to play. FOR SHAME!!! NO ONE NAMED THEM AT THE APRIL MEETING. LET’S TRY HARDER. How well do you know your board members? We see them at meetings, sometimes talk to them and if we’re lucky we know what their title on the board is. Older members may know them well but new members don’t. Each month one board member will be featured in the newsletter. NO BIO THIS MONTH 4 Hunt County Woodturners, Inc. http://www.huntcountywoodturners.org May 2013 Beads of Courage Since Bill was out with a bad back at the April meeting I thought I would take this opportunity to display some of the unusual Beads of Courage boxes from SWAT 2012. Our August quarterly challenge will be Beads of Courage Boxes. Kudos to our club members for providing such a variety of projects to be shared with the club. Everything from the classic, simple, nature inspired, to creative, innovative and glitz. We have seen it all this year. Members are always eager to share lessons learned at the Open Shops and as club demonstrations. Keep up the exploration of new materials and artistic form along with the traditional. We have a GREAT club. Get the most out of your membership by participating and attending whenever possible.
