Roane County Chamber of Commerce Chamber Membership Update Annual Dinner The Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority’s Annual Dinner and Business Meeting was held on Thursday, May 8. Keynote speaker Jim Justice captivated the audience with his humorous yet motivating address. The evening also featured several individuals and businesses who were honored with awards of distinction. The Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Sherry Truman for her outstanding contributions and many years of service to the prosperity and growth of Roane County. Kate Burbank was honored with the first ever Cornerstone Award for her exemplary service and commitment to Roane County. Several Chamber businesses were recognized and received certificates for having the distinction of being Multi-Generational Businesses: 5th Generation Business—Taylor Vandale Funeral Home; 4th Generation Businesses—Hardman Supply, Hildreth Supply, and Willard C. Chamber Golf Tournament—Sat., June 21 The Roane County Chamber of Commerce we be having a Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 21. The event will take place at the Roane County Golf Club located on Reedyville Road. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and a shot gun start at 9:00 a.m. The cost to play will be $40 per individual / $160 for a foursome, which includes green fees, cart and lunch (pulled pork BBQ, baked beans, potato salad, fruit, cake –lunch—compliments of Roane General Hospital) and water—other beverages will be available. Grand Re-Opening—Fruth Pharmacy—July 3 Fruth Pharmacy is pleased to announce a Grand Re-Opening celebration for the Spencer location to begin July 3rd and last through July 9th. Please rsvp by Thursday, July 3. cMeLeadWV The cMeLeadWV pilot program took place at Roane County High School on Wednesday, May 28 with 76 Juniors and Sophomores attending. The cMeLeadWV program, offered to High School Juniors and Sophomores in Roane County, had a curriculum focused on leadership skills development. The program was comprised of six sessions that walked students through team building skills, collaboration, and entrepreneur leadership challenges. Students gained an understanding of how leadership skills can be used to build capacity in the community, lead organizations and enhance confidence in their daily activities. Roane County Landlords Association was formed two years and currently has approximately 20 members. The association allows the opportunity for landlords to exchange ideas about investment properties, to build a stronger buying power, creates a referral network system and creates an avenue for members to have a close working relationship with city, county and state governments. There goal is to become a member of the West Virginia and National Landlords Association which would enable its members to access more knowledge and resources at a minimal cost.
