January 2011 Commit2Win Returns for its 4th Year
Michelle Johnson
Program Director
It’s back … Connect2One is very pleased to announce the
fourth year of our Commit2Win program with Russell Athletic
and Jerzees. And we’re extremely pleased to announce that
Russell Athletic has confirmed no price increases for 2011!
Commit2Win product will stay at last year’s prices. With apparel prices going up on a daily basis, this is a real win-win for
our members!
Syracuse University Bookstore sold over 2,000 pieces of the Jerzees product in
three hours with this successful marketing campaign.
Many stores have told us how they promote Commit2Win
product, and none has been more successful than the Syracuse
University Bookstore. The store did a broadcast e-mail to students the day before the sale and then followed up by posting
the promotion on Facebook. With hoodies and sweatpants at
just $15, the sale was very successful. The promotion kicked off
at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 27, and the store sold over 2,000
pieces by 3 p.m. If you do a sale like this, keep in mind that customers line up early – so be prepared to handle more shoppers
than usual. The Utah Valley University Bookstore also offered
the same items and price point but stretched its sale out over
four days. It was also very successful, and the store plans on
doing this promotion three times in 2011. As you put together
your commitments, plan ahead for events on your campus
where a sale like this could be really successful.
Here are some valuable changes and additions to this year’s
program:
•
Our basic t-shirt has
switched to style 29M, a
50/50 blend with a softer
hand that is available in a
lot more colors: 27 to be
exact.
• This year we are adding the
Rainbow Assortment to our
t-shirt selection:
Buy a minimum of 288
tees per graphic, which
can be broken down to 72 pieces of four different
color tees with the same one-color imprint, or buy 48
pieces of six different color tees with the same
one-color imprint.
• We are adding the 993M Full Zip Hooded Sweatshirt to
the overall assortment!
• In addition to the traditional banded sweatpant, we are
adding style 974M – an Open Bottom Sweatpant – to our
offering.
Commit2Win is one of our most successful programs ever,
but we need the support of all Connect2One members to qualify.
Commitment worksheets have already been e-mailed to apparel
buyers. Your commitments are due back no later than March 31,
2011. Plan now – you and your customers will be glad you did!
Program
Guidelines
Commitments by style, color and month for June 2011 through
May 2012 are due March 31, 2011. Stores that do not make a
commitment by March 31 will not be eligible to participate.
Your commitments must be placed through your Connect2One
membership directors, Lori Cano or Ellen Broughton. Their names
and fax numbers are on each commitment worksheet. These commitments are firm orders and cannot be changed once they are
placed.
Once your commitments are made and we reach the qualifying
quantities, your Russell sales representative will contact you to
write your orders.

Roaring Spring Introduces New Initiatives
Paula Haerr
Associate Executive Director
Canefields USA
Starting in 2010,
Roaring Spring Paper
Products formed a
partnership with Canefields USA to purchase
sugarcane paper. Many
of Roaring Spring’s
products – including notebooks, filler paper and composition
books – that were previously made from recycled paper are being transitioned to sugarcane paper.
Sugarcane paper rolls are manufactured in India and converted into finished products in Roaring Spring’s U.S. converting
facility. The paper mill boasts one of the most environmentally
friendly paper producing processes in the world. Starting with
the stalks of harvested sugarcane (called “bagasse”), the mill
blends 80% sugarcane with 20% eucalyptus fiber to produce
the paper. The result is an exceptionally smooth, white and
92 brite writing sheet. The paper-making process at the mill
is completely energy neutral, utilizing much wind and solar
power. It also is carbon-free, essentially chlorine-free, acid-free,
and uses a closed-loop water system. The beauty of this process
is that it prevents the sugarcane stalks from being burned or
otherwise destroyed in ways that are potentially harmful to the
environment.
2
WIDE Format Pad
Ever innovating, Roaring
Spring has re-invented the
legal pad with the WIDE™
Format Landscape pad for 2011.
Designed to work in digital environments, the pads are shaped
like a computer screen. They
are perfect for scientific work or
just regular note-taking. They
fit in airline trays as well! Using premium 20# recycled paper,
WIDE™ pads are available in white or canary lined versions,
along with a white 5 × 5 graph version.
In addition, white and canary stiff-back WIDE™ pads, with
three-ring holes, will be available.
Choosey Chicks
Roaring Spring is also pleased
to announce a partnership with
Choosey Chicks®. Based in Atlanta,
Choosey Chicks® started as a boutique t-shirt company. Its “Choose”
themes and creative designs have been a huge hit. Roaring
Spring is incorporating four themes from Choosey Chicks into
notebooks and pocket folders: Peace, Love, Freedom and Happiness. Each theme will be sold in assorted designs and will be
available in counter displays.
For more information, contact your ICS representative or call Roaring
Spring at 800-441-1653.

Michelle Johnson
Program Director
Smartthreads
CAMEX Booth 1449
Connect2One is pleased to
announce Smartthreads as a
new vendor partner for 2011.
Smartthreads creates contemporarily designed, ethically
produced lifestyle and college-licensed apparel.
Smartthreads has also adopted the 1=1 philosophy.
For every garment purchased, a new Smartthreads 1=1
garment is donated to Clothes4Souls, a division of Soles4Souls. Clothes4Souls in turn delivers the garments to
where people need them. Soles4Souls has worked in more
than 125 countries donating over 1 million pairs of shoes
to victims of the 2004 Asian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina
and Hurricane Rita. Smartthreads is the first apparel
vendor to launch with Clothes4Souls. We hope you will
see the hope and potential of supporting this new, socially
conscious company.
Smartthreads has created a whole new vibe with its
hip approach to logoed apparel. The first style above is the
Lockridge Hoody in a black and white stripe with flocked felt
appliquéed graphics. In the center is the Balthazar Hoody in
grey with a plaid hood lining, raw edge embroidery appliqué
and three location imprint.
Smartthreads also offers a complete collection for women
including the Shepard Jacket shown on the right. It is garmentwashed for a softer hand and features raw edge twill appliqué
and flocked graphics.

SDS Design Associates
CAMEX Booth 1304
SDS Designs is a great resource for insignia
car magnets, vinyl decals and wall graphics. Auto
Graphic Car Magnets were originally created as
a way to decorate fans’ cars on game day. The trend soon took
off, and SDS stepped up to the challenge and has a portfolio
of thousands of designs and sizes. Its creative team is always
working on new ideas and customized designs for each school.
The company uses the finest quality materials to make magnets
that stay on cars at highway speeds and maintain their look for
years. These magnets are 100 percent safe for any car finish
even if left on for extended periods.
SDS Vinyl Decals are made using the finest 2 mm vinyl background material. Digitally printed images use UV exterior grade
inks for a perfect color match. Even photographic images are no
problem. Each decal is then custom cut to fit the image. Decals
can be applied to any smooth flat surface and will look great
for years to come. SDS also offers Wall Graphics made from a
special heavyweight vinyl with a “low-tac” adhesive allowing
application to painted interior surfaces without the worry of
damaging wall surfaces. SDS Wall Graphics are:
• Repositionable
• Available in a large 24-inch size and also in a special
“Over the Door” size.
• Great for dorm rooms!

Midwest Graphics is getting ready to
celebrate its 25th Anniversary, and we can
see why. Midwest is a great resource
for basic decorated apparel plus
many updated fashion silhouettes.
On the left is the Royaltee - a
new super soft 60% cotton/40%
polyester 4.3 oz t-shirt. It features a best-selling graphic that
looks like a sewn application
but is really a two-color
print design. Another
new garment is the
West Coast Full Zip
Hoody made from a 7 oz pre-laundered
80% cotton/20% polyester fleece, which
is perfect with a vertical imprint.
Midwest also offers a strong selection of
Junior and Ladies garments. Centered on the
right is the Tinge Camouflage Burnout Tee. The
camo is the burnout tone-on-tone pattern in
the background. The imprint is a very pretty, soft floral design.
Other new t-shirts with burnout patterns include leopard, zebra
and flowers. Another great junior garment is the Class A Long
Sleeve Raglan Tee, below right. It’s a traditional baseball look
available in lots of color combinations.

Palletizing Your Shipment
Always use pallets that are
in good condition and durable.
Stack boxes squarely on pallet,
corner-to-corner with no overhang. Make sure every box is
labeled before properly securing the freight to the pallet.
You can secure cartons to a pallet with banding, shrink-wrap,
stretch-wrap, or breakaway adhesive. This is also a protection
factor for your freight.

Co-Location History in the Making
Paula Haerr
Associate Executive Director
For some of you, Connect2One and
CAMEX have always been together. That
has not always been the case.
Back in 2001, Dick Welsh, former C2O
Executive Director, and Brian Cartier,
NACS CEO, shook hands over a deal to
combine the Connect2One education
and trade show event with the 2002 Los
Angeles CAMEX event. Even though we
had just completed our most successful
annual meeting in the history of the buying group, Dick saw the writing on the
wall in respect to the economy. Ten years
later, the reasons for combined meetings

make more sense than ever before.
Who benefits? First and foremost,
our members. The co-location has
reduced the time out of the store, reduced hotel expenses and eliminated
one round-trip airfare. The sequencing of the C2O catalog materials, the
C2O education day and the CAMEX
trade show makes for an efficient
kick-off of the back-to-school buying
season.
Secondly, our vendor partners benefit
by accomplishing everything in one show
that used to take two. The costs of exhibiting at any show
add up quickly. Just

much it costs to ship
