Fabric Requirements Fabric Colorway 1 Colorway 1 Swatch Colorway 2 Panel print 4929-1 4929-2 (6 individual hankies) Fabric #1 4936-1 4936-22 13/4 yd. Fabric #2 4930-1 4930-2 21/2 yd. Fabric #3 4934-11 4934-2 Fabric #4 4935-11 4935-2 17/8 yd. Fabric #5 4937-1 4937-2 11/4 yd. Backing 4933-1 4933-2 41/2 yd. Instructions From the panel print, cut 111/2" squares of the six individual hankies. Fabric #1 is a directional print, so fabric is cut in two directions. From Fabric #1, cut (4) 2" strips and (1) 4" x 30" strip lengthwise. From the 2" strips, cut (12) 2" x 141/2" rectangles. From the 4" x 30" strip, cut (4) 4" x 71/2" rectangles. Set the four rectangles aside for center blocks. From the remaining fabric, cut (1) 4" strip and (4) 2" strips crosswise. From the 4" strip, cut (4) 4" x 71/2" rectangles and set these aside for the inner blocks. From the 2" strips, cut (12) 2" x 111/2" rectangles. Sew the 2" x 111/2" rectangles to the opposite sides of each hanky square. Press. Sew the 2" x 141/2" rectangles to the remaining sides of the hanky squares creating a frame. Press. From the large floral print Fabric #2, cut (4) 41/2" strips for the outer borders. Set aside. Cut (2) 71/2" squares for the inner blocks. From the floral/plaid print Fabric #3, cut (2) 4" strips, selvage to selvage. Cut into (16) 4” squares. Using the 4" x 71/2" rectangles from Fabric #1, and the 4" squares from Fabric #3, make eight flying geese blocks. To make flying geese, lightly press a square in half, diagonally. With right sides together, place one square piece on top of the rectangular piece. Stitch through both fabrics on the folded line. Using your rotary cutter, trim the excess fabric to within 1/4" of the stitched line. Fold the resulting triangle Colorway 2 Swatch Yardage 1/4 yd. over the stitching line and press. Take another square, lightly press it in half, diagonally, and place it on top of this unit as shown. Stitch across it on the folded line. Trim the excess fabric to within 1/4" of the stitching line. Then proceed to fold and press. Make eight units as shown in the diagram below. Using the Fabric #1 flying geese units in the same direction, sew one unit to the top of the 71/2" square and the other unit to the bottom. Repeat with the second block. From the vine print, Fabric #4, cut (4) 21/2" strips lengthwise for inner borders. Set aside. Cut (1) 4" strip crosswise. Cut into (8) 4" squares. Attach these squares to either side of the remaining four flying geese units. Attach to either side of the large floral Fabric #2 square units, paying attention to the direction of Fabric #1units. From the setting triangles print Fabric #5, cut (2) 211/8" squares. Cut the squares on both diagonals as shown. From this, cut (2) 107/8" squares. Cut in half on the diagonal as shown for the four corner triangles. Using the picture on the cover as a guide, attach triangles to the blocks, creating rows. Join the rows, then add the corner blocks. Add borders. Measure the length of the top through the center, and cut the inner borders, Fabric #4, to size. Attach and press. Measuring the width through the center, calculate the width, then cut the inner top and bottom Fabric #4 borders, and attach. Press. Use the same method for the remaining outer borders with Fabric #2. Add batting and backing. Quilt as desired. Using the large floral print Fabric #2, add binding. Hooked on Hankies Pillow (16" square) Colorway 1 Colorway 2 Instructions use the same directional print in Fabric #1. Attach the squares of Fabric #4 to the remaining two flying geese blocks. Attach these to the large floral print Fabric #2 block unit. Attach the side borders from Fabric #1 using the 21/2" x 12" rectangles, matching the directional print. Attach the top and bottom Fabric #1 borders. From Fabric #1, cut (2) 21/2" x 121/2" rectangles and (2) 31/2" x 61/2" lengthwise. Cut (2) 21/2" x 161/2" rectangles and (2) 31/2" x 61/2" rectangles crosswise. Set aside. The pillow back may be cut from the fabric of your choice, using the closure of your choice. For a 16" zipper, insert zipper using two fabric pieces 9" x 161/2". When zipper is inserted, trim to 161/2" square and sew to pieced top right sides together. For a flap finish, cut (2) 111/2" x 161/2" pieces. Hem the shorter sides. Overlap the short ends, and sew to the pillow top with right sides together. Another method will involve cutting a 161/2" square of the fabric of your choice. With right sides together, stitch around three sides leaving an opening to insert pillow form. Turn right sides out. Press. Insert pillow form. Hand stitch the opening closed. From the leftover material, cut the following fabrics and construct using the method for the inner blocks. The closure of the pillow back may be a 16" zipper, velcro, or flap finish. The pillow could also be hand stitched on the seam line. You will need a 16" pillow form and appropriate closure. From large floral print Fabric #2, cut (1) 61/2" square. From Fabric #3, cut (8) 31/2" squares. From Fabric #4, cut (4) 31/2" squares. Using Fabric #1 and #3, construct four flying geese units as described above. Attach to the top and bottom of the square from the large floral print Fabric #2, taking care to Hooked on Hankies Reversible Pillow (14” square) Fabric Requirements • Two of your favorite hanky prints from the Panel fabric • Coordinating print of your choice for four 2" x 111/2" rectangles • Same coordinating print for four 2" x 141/2" rectangles • 14" pillow form Colorway 1 Instructions Colorway 2 Cut 111/2" squares from two hanky prints. Construct two blocks as you did for the quilt by adding 2" x 111/2" rectangles to opposite sides of the hanky square. Press. Add the two 2" x 141/2" rectangles to the opposite sides of the block. Press. With right sides together, stitch outer seam, leaving an opening to insert a 14" pillow form. Hand stitch the opening closed. Hooked on Hankies Quilt Colorway 2 © 2004 RJR Fabrics
