As we open the Festival for the 5th year, we want to thank the businesses and people who make it happen. We are ever so grateful to our sponsors whose generous support has allowed us to donate over $100,000 to the community and return each year with a bigger and better Festival. We applaud the many volunteers and the AIF team – the foundation of this event. We appreciate their hard work and passion for the Festival and thank them for contributing to the Irish Festival’s great success. We also thank YOU, the community, who believed in us from the beginning and has steadfastly supported the Festival every year. The five-man band’s steadfast arrangement of guitar, bass, drums, and mandolin is rounded out with more exotic instruments, like the bouzouki, fiddle, accordion and penny whistle, all tied together by lead singer Barry Privett’s bold, straightforward baritone. Long beloved in their hometown of Richmond and known for high-energy live shows, the group entered onto the national scene in 2002 by winning an American Music Award with the Irish-tinged hit “The Boxer,” a narrative about a fighter who’s at the top of his game but scraping the bottom of love’s barrel. Pioneering dreams, broken hearts, Love’s renewal - all traverse the American landscape as common themes in Carbon Leaf’s music, as is reflected in the dark, bluesy “Another Man’s Woman,” and “Miss Hollywood,” a Southern-twanged ballad about the angst of dating an enormous sign. Gaelic Storm O 6 ver the course of 10 albums and nearly 3,000 live shows, Gaelic Storm — the chart-topping, multi-national Celtic band — is dishing up a hearty serving of Full Irish - The Best of Gaelic Storm. The greatest-hits album spans the bulk of the band’s career, mixing crowd favorites and concert staples with three previously unreleased recordings, including “Whiskey in the Jar” and “Irish Party in Third Class” from Titanic. The album features sea shanties and drinking songs, traditional tunes and Gaelic Storm originals, instrumental workouts and vocal showcases. Regularly playing more than 120 shows a year, Gaelic Storm has built a loyal following as diverse as the band’s own music. Fans of traditional Irish music have championed the group for years, as have fans of harder-edged Celtic rock. On tour, Gaelic Storm is just as likely to play a large rock club as a plush theater. The band makes regular appearances on cruises, too, joining artists like the Barenaked Ladies and Michael Franti. Gaelic Storm has straddled the line between tradition and innovation for nearly two decades, infusing traditional Celtic music with modern influences, and updating the genre for a new generation of fans raised on rock, country and folk. Along the way, the group has topped the Billboard World Chart four times and earned a reputation as a hard-touring, genre-bending band. Sn cythian amed after Ukrainian nomads, Scythian (sith-ee-yin) plays immigrant rock with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling songwriting, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance rock concert experience. Celebrating 10 years of getting people dancing all night, Scythian released their new album, Jump at the Sun, this summer, with new songs debuting at album release shows across the country. Ed Helms’s The Bluegrass Situation has chimed in with praise, calling “Paint This Town” a ‘shine-fueled, fiddle-flying hoedown’ and “Built These Walls” a ‘blue-collar ballad we can all get behind.’ Nashville’s Music City Roots says Scythian is ‘what happens when rock star charisma meets Celtic dervish fiddling.’ Scythian’s “Immigrant Road Show” consists of Alexander Fedoryka, Josef Crosby, Danylo Fedoryka, Ben-David Warner, Tim Hepburn and Larissa Fedoryka. Albannach is Scots-Gaelic for “Scottish” or “Scotsman”. That‘s exactly what we are. Albannach are all born and bred in Scotland and our purpose in life is to share our intriguing culture, history and heritage by means of our music. Albannach are not just another Scottish ‘Pipes & Drums’ band…we bring a new and exciting form of music to you. A championship winning piper, an extremely talented main drummer, bass drummers and bodhran musician bring you a brand new approach to percussion and Celtic music. Our style of music is exciting, energetic and enchanting and we promise to leave you begging for more. T he Gothard Sisters are a dynamic, allfemale Irish music and dance group from the Pacific Northwest. The three women—who are truly sisters—perform and record new Celtic arrangements of well-known, traditional tunes and popular songs, as well as their own original compositions from their six recorded studio albums. As champion Irish dancers, who have competed overseas multiple times at the World Championships, they include visual elements and the exciting rhythms of Irish step dancing into tightly choreographed, high-energy variety shows. The signature sound of the Gothard Sisters’ recording (their new album Story Girl was awarded Album of the Year 2011 by Celtic Radio) blends the freedom and lyricism of traditional folk forms with the discipline gained from years of training as classical musicians and the competitive world of Irish dance. The sisters are seasoned performers and have performed around the country at Celtic and folk music festivals, state and county fairs, halftime shows, schools, theaters and concert series of all sizes. With original tunes written by the sisters, sibling harmony, Celtic roots and the nerve to take risks with style, a Gothard Sisters’ show is joyful and exuberant, full of surprises, and leaves audiences refreshed and inspired. 7 F ounded in Houston in 1994, The Rogues created a new genre of Celtic music with exceptionally well-played pipes and driving percussion. From street festivals to Scottish Highland games to performing with a symphony orchestra, The Rogues deliver a commanding performance. Starting at the Texas Renaissance Festival in 1994, the band soon began performing out of state and added Scottish Highland Games and Celtic festivals and corporate shows. The band has produced it's own theater show called Celtic Crossroads and performed as a guest artist with the Air Force Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. The Rogues have performed in Las Vegas, Greece, Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Canada, several cruises and all over the United States. Members of the band have competed all over North America and won 1st place at the World Pipe Band Championships. The Rogues have produced 9 albums and 2 DVDs to date and are listed in the official Grammy book for several nominations, though falling short of the final 5. The Rogues have a tradition of supporting charities, sometimes holding their own fundraisers supporting individuals and causes for soldiers. The band even has it's own tartan in the Scottish Register of Tartans. Barleyjuice W ith six studio albums and a double CD collection in their sporrans to date, these five spirited yanks are currently one of the most beloved celtic rock bands in the USA. Frontmen Kyf Brewer and Keith "Swanny" Swanson lithely cover lead vocals, guitars, accordion, harmonica, mandolin, bouzouki, and bagpipes. Both originally piped in the Loch Rannoch Pipe Band, and performed in Edinburgh’s Millennium March for Prince Charles. While Swanson was once a member of New York’s legendary Flailin’ Shilaleghs, Kyf’s been a pro performer since his first band, The Ravyns, produced the hit "Raised on the Radio" for the 1982 film Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Backing Brewer & Swanson are a mad trio of characters: captivating fiddler Alice O'Quirke, whose classical roots stray to Irish & bluegrass in the middle of the most authentic jigs & hornpipes; drummer John Tracey, a powerhouse of driving decadence; and hopping bassist Eric Worthington, musical snake-charmer of the deep and dulcet. The ayes have it — Barleyjuice is a grand group of talented tunesmiths and prodigious performers, and the absolute best time you can have at a concert without removing your kilt. danny Burns h ailing from the wild hills of Donegal in northwest Ireland, Danny Burns comes to America with heartfelt songs, unforgettable melodies, and a voice that commands you to stop and listen. Based in Washington, DC, together with a crack crew of pickers, players, singers and kind souls, the Danny Burns Band wants to take you on a journey from Ireland’s stormy coast to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to the glowing streets of Nashville and back again. They call it “Irish heart, American Soul.” 8 S Seamus Kennedy eamus Kennedy is an Irish singer, songwriter, musician, comedian, allaround entertainer, and author. He’s incredibly talented and fun! He has a huge repertoire that includes traditional Irish music, classic Country & Western, American standards, Scottish ballads, and kids’ shows: entertainment for “the wee ones.” Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, he has been entertaining audiences all over the United States for almost four decades. An accomplished guitarist with a ready wit and a vast store of songs, he travels the country performing for thousands of people each year. Kennedy’s ability to combine a total command of the music with humor makes him unique in the industry. His strong interactive entertainment skills and his participation with his audiences have helped him create an exceptionally loyal fan base everywhere he goes. K ilmaine Saints, a Harrisburg Pipe & Drum band became friends in 2009 after learning that they each shared a love for music and a background in Punk Rock 101. They conspired to create a Celtic rock band that would “play for beer” the following St Patrick’s Day. The Saints have continued to pound through blistering, high-energy live sets that keep people wanting more. In short, Kilmaine Saints are equal parts Irish swagger, Scottish pride, and whiskey. This explosive, high-energy Celtic rock band will lift your hearts, your spirits, and your pint when you’re not looking! Á ine O'Doherty, award winning singer-songwriter from Bundoran, County Donegal, in Northwest Ireland. A student of Berklee College of Music she has toured internationally and was a featured artist in the Irish version of 'American Idol' performing on National Television for a run of 10 weeks. Her new E.P was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and will be released this summer. Brendan pelan B orn in Belfast, Ireland, Brendan has been playing music in the Washington/Baltimore area since 1963, and at several venues in Derry, Belfast, Bray and Dublin, Ireland. Brendan enjoys bringing popular, classic and Irish traditional music to audiences. His music spans from the Wolfe Tones, Saw Doctors, Clancy Brothers, and Christy Moore to the The Beatles, Jimmy Buffett, Van (Belfast Cowboy) Morrison, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, George Strait, The Everly Brothers, and Roy Orbison. The band wears the Ancient MacDonald tartan coupled with white police shirts, black ties, and black waistcropped Naval mess jackets, in honor of the Naval heritage of Annapolis. The most distinct feature of our uniform is the cap badge representing a Maryland Blue Crab, a symbol of the Chesapeake Bay, the region that is home to our pipers and drummers.
