The March meeting was a talk
by Malcolm Moodie about
Orchids of Thailand. It was a
very interesting as usual, when
Malcolm visits, with some lovely
scenes of orchids growing in
their natural habitats. He visited
several different areas, when he
went to Thailand with his wife,
and he showed us the orchids of
each area and the different
climates that they grow in.
It was disappointing that there
were only 7 members which
attended the talk and slightly
embarrassing but luckily
Malcolm and his wife were very
understanding. (The speakers
cost up to £100 each)
The March competition table
was won by Lawrence with
Coelogyne 'Unchained Melody'
and he was also second with
Dendrobium Seigyoku Queen.
Mike Sharman came 3rd with
Coelogyne Intermedia.
Lawrence and several members
visited Wisley for our once a
year free entrance on March
16th. David Martin and Norma
Burgess both won prizes for
their orchids in the OSGB Spring
Show in the glasshouse.

Congratulations go to our own
David Martin who has been
awarded the RHS Westonbirt
Medal for 2012. This was
awarded for the best specimen
plant shown to the RHS Orchid
Committee during the year, and
went to David for his
Cymbidium Sweet Devon 'Sweet'
(suave x devoniaum) CCC/RHS
which was on the OSGB display
at Chelsea last year, with 19
pendant flower spikes and
measuring 1 metre in diameter.
His certificate of Cultural
Commendation was well
deserved. Well done David.

On Saturday 20th April is
Thames Valley Orchid Society
Show where we are staging a
display in return for their lovely
display at our show. This will be
held at the ROOTS GARDEN
CENTRE, Priors Court Road,
Hermitage, RG18 9TG Junction
10 on the M4. Near the Newbury
Showground.

The next event is the RHS London Show which is on Thursday 11th
April Preview evening, Friday and Saturday 12th and 13th April 10 17.00
OUR NEXT MEETING IS SUNDAY 21ST APRIL at 2pm WHERE
LAWRENCE WILL BE SPLITTING CYMBIDIUMS AND RE-POTTING
