Term 3, Week 4
DISTRICT ATHLETICS
Dear parents and caregivers
D
istrict Athletics
The District Athletics Carnival is one of the most
important events on our sporting calendar. As is always
the case there will be standout performers but the most
pleasing aspect of this carnival is that irrespective of the
result, Illaroo Road students will try their best and
represent their school proudly. We wish all 49 members
of our athletics team the best of luck this Thursday
afternoon and on Friday. It will be great fun for all
competitors and parents in attendance.
D
istrict Carnival Canteen
Illaroo Road Parent Helpers Required
This year it is our turn to run the canteen at the District
Athletics Carnival. This should be a good fundraiser for
the school but we urgently require volunteer helpers on
Friday. Helpers will be needed to serve in the canteen and
we also need dads or mums to help on the BBQ. If you
can help during the day, if only for a short time, please
contact Karen Jorgenson on 0425309228 to let her know
of your availability. You can also contact Mr Tink
through the school office if you wish.
O
pen Day Classroom Visits
Our open classroom sessions turned out to be a
highlight of Education Week. This was especially the
case for those parents who had great fun helping their
children with the various ‘hands on’ learning activities
organised by teachers. In primary schools, science is
nearly always one of the most popular curriculum areas
and this was evident on Wednesday. Our students and
teachers very much appreciated the support of all family
members in attendance.
E
ducation Week Assembly
This was another highlight of the week, epitomising
why Illaroo Road is such a great school. We were
delighted to be able to acknowledge all 100% attendance
students for Term 2, and also students who achieved
remarkable results in the University of NSW Computer
Competition. To gain 22 credit and 14 distinction awards
is quite an achievement. We were also very proud of the
contribution made by our drama, singing and dancing
students. We extend our congratulations to
Adam Jorgensen, Imogen Clarke, Tara Pain,
Nathan Anderson, Cameron Fernie, Amara Skelton,
Jessica Ibrahim, Sarah Hamilton, Thomas Dayoub,
Ethan Hedayati, Matilda Field, Hayden Strand,
Ashleigh Palmer, Tori Webster and Hannah Billett. Their
performances were a delight to watch.
S
hoalhaven River Learning Community – Official
Launch
Last Tuesday the Shoalhaven River Learning Community
was officially launched at a prestigious function held at
the Arts Centre. This organisation consists of 19 local
public schools all working together to provide students
with the best possible education available in our district.
Ten of our students made an important contribution to the
occasion. They were our captains Meridith Cheyne and
Finn Wilson, choir members Hannah Morris, Sophie
Bean, Jessica Weakley and Elizabeth Rutherford; and
also Cooper Lerch, Sarah Kilby, Brianna Stirling and
Riley Sims who had their art work displayed on the day.
L
ibrary Book Fair Sensation
Our librarian Mrs Jones is thrilled because of the
wonderful success of last week’s book fair. As a
consequence of the support of parents the school will be
receiving books to the value of $1500 for the library. At
Illaroo Road we have a wonderful library and it is always
exciting when we can update our resources. Great
libraries are always at the centre of learning in successful
schools.
P&C
Meeting Tuesday 16 August
Our first P&C meeting for the term will be
held in the staffroom next Tuesday. We look forward to
seeing everyone at 7.00 am.

Book Fair
The amount of money raised to buy books for our school
library broke all previous records! Thanks to the
generosity of the Illaroo Road Public School community
we will be able to purchase $1500 worth of new books
for our school library. The students are also to be
congratulated on their conduct shopping at the fair.
Lovely manners were displayed at all times even during
the rush hour on Wednesday lunch time!
Mrs Jones
Well done boys! Please see the school website for photos
of the event.
Mr Klein
Congratulations to those who received a merit award.
2011 School Self-Evaluation
Every year at this time we conduct our school selfevaluation to see how effective we are being in meeting
our annual targets and following the requirements of the
school plan. It also provides information for future school
targets.
In 2011 our two major reviews are in human society and
its environment (HSIE) and school management. We also
examine all other curriculum and major program areas.
The SSE committee this year consists of Graham Tink,
Ron Innes-Will (parent rep), Deb Faulks, Lesley Maclean
and Bob Lowe.
Staff, parents and students are being surveyed about
school management early in August. A random selection
of 125 families (33%) will receive a survey form today
with the bulletin. We really value your input so, if you
receive a survey form, please complete it and return it
to school by Friday 19 August.

anteen Helpers for District Athletics Carnival
Illaroo Road PS has nominated to run the canteen at
the district athletics carnival this year. Parent helpers are
required to assist in the canteen on Friday 12th August
coordinated by Karen Jorgenson. If your child is
participating in the carnival and you are attending, your
help would be greatly appreciated on the day. Please

I
RPS Garden Pavers
If you would like to have your child, family, business
or organisation become a permanent part of our school’s
history, you can by having your name or message
engraved into a paver. It will then be laid permanently in
our school garden providing an enduring link between the
past, recent and future. Order forms are available from
the school office.
C
ards Fundraiser Back Again
Our popular Christmas card fund raiser is going to
happen again. But don’t be limited by Christmas! If you
want a different festivity or cards for more than one
event, just send a note with your child in the next two
weeks. Then we will send extra artwork paper home or
have a different theme constructed during class time.
Don’t forget to warn ‘Poppy and Granny’. They love
these cards to send as proud grandparents. The order can
be included in the family order form sent home with the
finished artwork at the beginning of Term 4.
Cost is $12.50 for a pack of 8 cards.
Successful School Disco
A special thank you to all the parent and teacher helpers
who helped make our school disco such a success last
Thursday. As usual our teachers did a great job in
providing a safe environment for the kids and our parent
helpers were wonderful serving drinks and helping with
supervision. We enjoyed some excellent music and saw
some great moves on the dance floor and look forward to
having another disco in Term 4.

100% Attendance in Term 2
We somehow managed to leave Izach Brain off last

GARDEN CLUB
I am planning to start a garden club for students at the
school. We will meet first half of lunch every Thursday in
the term, and work on our vegie garden – particularly
exciting as we head into spring! Slow Foods Shoalhaven
will also join us and share their knowledge about cooking
the food we grow.
The club will be limited to 20 primary students each
term. If you would like your child to be a member please
fill in the form below and hand it to Mrs Wade. I look
forward to sharing the garden with you.
