In a few short weeks, their HSC exams will have come and gone, and they will very much be ex-school students. During this week, we will be taking the opportunity to celebrate their growth and contribution to our School. We want to wish them God’s richest blessing as they leave us and move into new opportunities and challenges in the world beyond school. We also want to make sure that we do not ignore the challenge of the HSC exams that our Year 11 students will be sitting over the next little while. Although they will return for Foundation Studies on Monday 16th November, we know that this is a significant time for them and we want them to know that we are praying for them, too. JUMP ROPE FOR HEART—K-6 STUDENTS Tomorrow, Tuesday 16th September. Commencing at 10.50am Parents helpers are needed. All welcome to come and encourage. Too easily we default to being worried about all sorts of things in our lives. God reminds us through Jesus that He desires to look after ALL creation. His “song” of love and provision for each one of us is something that Jesus said with His own voice, but also with His whole life. Whatever we think our most important needs may be, we all have a bigger need; we all need to be forgiven for our sins. By dying on the cross for each one of us, Jesus took care of our biggest need. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” Matthew 6:34 …………………………………………………………………………. This Wednesday we have a Mufti Day. The plan was that the proceeds would go to Compassion and the School Bus. In light of all that is happening for the Syrian Refugees, we have decided that the money raised this week will go to UNICEF to support the people who have been displaced and who desperately need us to help them now. …………………………………………………………………………. As Term 3, 2015 comes to a close, we have much to be thankful to God for. In the busyness of each day I hope that we all take time to stop, reflect and be thankful. Spend some quality time with our loved ones and spend some time with God. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the life of our School and to its students over these past weeks. We especially think of the students and families heading towards the HSC exams. Let’s cover them in prayer over the coming weeks. Community E-Chronicle 4 Term 3 Week 9 SCHOOL NEWS STAGE 1 VISIT TO KANGAROO VALLEY PIONEER MUSEUM Last Thursday, the three Stage One classes travelled by bus to Kangaroo Valley Pioneer Museum. This term, we have been learning about “Families Past and Present” and wanted to see the way many people lived in the past. Everyone dressed up for this special event. After hearing some of the history of the Museum, we divided up into groups and went exploring with our teachers and parent helpers. Many of us enjoyed a long bushwalk (okay, most of us enjoyed the long bushwalk!) We visited a forge, a dairy and a settler’s cottage. After inspecting the old school, we decided our school is much better, and learning is more fun now. We stopped for lunch, then played some skipping games, played chasings and used some hoops. After a little more exploring, we took some photos and climbed back on the bus. Everyone had a fantastic day together. We would like to say an enormous “THANK YOU!” to the twenty three parents who came along on the excursion. This made our day extra special. STAGE 2 METRO CUP On Monday, 17th August, ten students from Stage 2 went to Jamison Park in Penrith for State Metro Cup Soccer. We played 3 games against other schools from around NSW. They were difficult games as we were playing the best teams. A highlight was Toby McDonell's 2 goals which were our only goals. It was an enjoyable day even though we didn't win any games. Micah Edwards STAGE 2 BASKETBALL GALA DAY Last Thursday, 13 Stage 2 girls attended the Basketball Gala Day at Shoalhaven Basketball Stadium. NCS entered a Year 3 and a Year 4 team: Year 3: Abi Warne; Kayleigh Weissel; Hannah Wallis; Alexis Wright-Joyce; Aleah Gooding; Abi Heard, and Charlie Giddings. Year 4: Julia McMillan; Lila Collison; Sierra Clegg; Lili Miles; Lilly Davie; and Emma Whitehouse. Both teams played well and, even during the breaks, spent time going over their Basketball skills practising shooting, passing and defence. Our Year 3 team played hard and, despite not winning any of their games, improved their skills throughout the day and had a fun and exciting time. The Year 4 team were undefeated in their games. They played Nowra Public School in the semi-finals and progressed to the grand final to play Nowra Anglican College winning a nail-biting match 8-6. Winning by only 2 points, the Year 4 team were victors at the Gala Day, taking home medals and bringing the trophy to NCS! Congratulations to our Year 4 girls - you displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship! Many thanks to Noah McMillan, as well as Sarah and Elizabeth Curline for coaching the girls throughout the term and caring for them on the day. Everyone enjoyed the day immensely and the girls are keen to continue playing at lunch time on Wednesdays. Compiled by Lilly Davie and Mrs Bellette SENIOR LEADERSHIP TRAINING DAY What is Christian leadership? On Friday 11 September, ten students from Year 10 and 11 set out to answer that question, and to learn what skills, attitudes and values make up being a Secondary School Prefect at Nowra Christian School. Our opening talk was by our Secondary School Chaplain, Mr Petts, who showed us how Christian leadership is different from that of the world, and gave us a model to use into the future. We saw this all illustrated from the Bible’s story of Joshua, who went from being an assistant to Moses to the famous leader of the Israelites. We had two presenters from Crusaders, Sal and Matt, conduct a workshop on how to give a short talk/devotion, and they ALSO shared some of their story with us as well. After lunch in Nowra, our Secondary English Teacher, Mrs Thompson, gave a talk on prayer, highlighting that prayer brings glory to God, recognising our need for His help, and about praying in Jesus name for the kinds of things Jesus would give us. We all played a game, showing the importance of teams, and then did a workshop with Mrs Thompson on our personality types and the kinds of gifts each person brings to a team! Finally, we did a session on reading the Bible in public, before finishing up. Feedback was really positive, and we look forward to electing our six Prefects for 2016 from these students on Tuesday – we are blessed to have such a gifted and keen group! Pray for our election, and our young future leaders. Mr Petts LIBRARY NEWS All K-2 books need to be returned this week. Students in Years 3-11 may borrow for the holidays if they have no books outstanding. MUFTI DAY—THIS WEDNESDAY 16th SEPTEMBER This Wednesday, 16th September, will be a Mufti Day at NCS. A gold coin donation will be collected from all students wearing Mufti which will be given to UNICEF (for Syrian refugees). Students are asked to be mindful of the Mufti Day Dress code as outlined in the Parent Information Booklet. This will also be a K-6 football coaching day, for all classes, and we would like to remind these students to either wear, or bring along, suitable training shoes rather than other non–sporting footwear for that day.
