What is Stop Hunger Now?
Stop Hunger Now is a tax-exempt U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit humanitarian relief organization
founded in 1998.
Since its inception, SHN has delivered food aid and disaster relief supplies in the form of food,
medicines, medical supplies, medical equipment, clothing, and blankets to thousands of
disaster victims and other hungry and vulnerable people in seventy-six countries.
Our Vision: a world without hunger.
Our Mission: to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life saving
aid to the world’s most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to
mobilize the necessary resources.

What is the meal packaging program?
SHN operates a unique meal packaging program that has organized more than 125,000
volunteers who have packaged more than 47 million meals for distribution in developing
countries. The packaging operation is mobile – it can go wherever volunteers are located
– and can be scaled to accommodate as few as 25 or as many as 500 volunteers at a time.
One SHN packaging event can result in the packaging of more than 1,000,000 meals. The use
of volunteers for product packaging has resulted in an extremely cost-effective operation
while, at the same time, increasing awareness of global hunger and food insecurity issues
across a broad cross-section of the U.S. population.
Since the inception of the meal packaging program in December 2005, these packaged meals
have been used primarily to support school feeding programs in developing countries. Stop
Hunger Now and hunger experts agree that hunger is solvable and is the common thread
among the world’s most challenging issues. Targeting hunger – specifically by supporting
school feeding programs – leverages support to other causes including poverty, disease,
education, and the welfare of women and children.

Who is involved? What are the key benefits for volunteers?
Due to the valuable experience Stop Hunger Now’s meal packaging program provides
volunteers, Stop Hunger Now has received much interest in establishing new locations
throughout the U.S. and around the world. The demand in the community comes from
organizations such as churches, civic organizations, corporations, and universities. Stop
Hunger Now’s vision in 2011 is to meet the demand we see not only from those suffering from
hunger, but also from the compassionate volunteers who want to help them.
Stop Hunger Now’s meal packaging program supports the most sustainable way to fight
hunger and provides volunteers with a fun, hands-on international volunteer mission project
for caring people of all ages. Through the meal packaging program, our greatest dream is
being realized – thousands of volunteers are learning the value of addressing hunger and
are joining Stop Hunger Now in creating a world without hunger. They are taking action by
volunteering to package meals and helping spread the word. Volunteers typically commit to
a minimum of two hours at a time. Volunteering with Stop Hunger Now offers a wonderful
volunteer opportunity for youth groups, religious organizations, civic and social clubs,
schools, colleges and universities, fraternities and sororities.

How are meals distributed?
Stop Hunger Now distributes its meals primarily through school feeding programs operated
by partner organizations in developing countries. These school feeding programs promote
education, encourage children to attend school, improve the health and nutrition of students,
address gender inequalities, spur economic growth, combat child labor, and create a platform
for tackling global issues.
In addition to supporting school feeding programs, Stop Hunger Now also provides meals in
response to crisis relief. Our strong partnership in Haiti, for example, enabled us to ship more
than 8 million meals to support relief efforts after the January 2010 earthquake.

Gift-in-Kind Program
In its efforts to respond to emergency needs around the world, Stop Hunger Now also
receives and distributes significant donations of in-kind aid. These donations are large
quantities of food, medicines, medical supplies, and other such items that may be of use in
fighting hunger and providing relief in a crisis.
In 2010, Stop Hunger Now sent approximately 2.1 million dollars worth of in-kind aid to four
countries: Haiti, Pakistan, Philippines, and Liberia. Shipments included medicines, medical
supplies, food, clothing, and shoes.

Rated Four-Star Charity by Charity Navigator
In 2010, Stop Hunger Now received its third consecutive fourstar Charity Navigator rating. Only 13% of non-profits rated have
received three consecutive four-star ratings. This is a powerful
demonstration of Stop Hunger Now’s commitment to fulfill its
mission in a fiscally responsible way. 97% of Stop Hunger Now’s
income goes directly to the program with only 3% being spent
on administrative and fundraising expenses. The four-star rating
differentiates Stop Hunger Now from other non-profits and demonstrates to the public the
organization is worthy of their trust.
