Escorts too is looking forward to 2015 to be an interesting year that will bring us closer to our customers, more than ever before. The first two quarters of this financial year were comparatively lean, but the company has forged multiple strategies to deliver profitability and growth in the second half. With the support of globally-reputed strategic consultants, we are renewing our focus on cash flow management, streamlining of cost and efficiency optimization. The continued thrust on lean management and consolidation of manufacturing facilities has long term implications for profitability. We have also created a roadmap for launch of a series of new products that are pathbreakers. Our new products and technology have been successful in creating new market segments and tapping into a wider range of customers. The journey started in November last year, when Escorts Agri Machinery launched the Farmtrac 4-Wheel Drive tractors. Escorts has always believed that Indian farmers deserve the world’s best farm mechanization solutions and the 4x4 technology is a part of that. The developed 1 nations have 4x4 tractors ruling 80% of the market and we do not see any reason why India should be any different. The Farmtrac 6050 4X4 Heritage Series is a world-class new series that brings the high end fourwheel drive technology of cars to Indian tractors for safe haulage operations in extreme conditions. The month of January 2015 saw the launch of our much-awaited Anti-Lift Tractors – the first lift-resistant tractors in India. This revolutionary product is touted to become a game changer in haulage operations, especially mining and transportation. The Anti-Lift Tractor (ALT), developed using innovative technology through a series of path-breaking measures, is designed around the concept of ‘Driver Safety’ and ‘Owner Savings’. Developed specifically for commercial haulage operators, this Powertrac series once again underlines Escorts’ superior understanding of customer requirements. reflected in our construction equipment business. Escorts Construction Equipment is registering strong growth and we expect this trend to continue into the second half of the fiscal as we are well prepared to take advantage of market opportunities. The growth story has already begun, with our new backhoe loader, Digmax II gaining market share at a time when the backhoe industry is actually de-growing. In the coming few months, the government’s ambitious plans for ‘smart cities’ will not only be a harbinger for the nation’s growth, but will also be a big boost for the entire construction sector. We are also expecting things to look up in the Railway Products portfolio, given the government’s focus on increasing wagons and modernization of railways. We also intend to launch new products and technologies over the rest of the fiscal which will prove to be significant game changers in the long run. ALT was recently launched across six prominent Indian cities and has received an encouraging response from dealers, customers and media alike. We look forward to continuing this momentum in other cities too. We are terrifically excited about the opportunities and prospects that Escorts can deliver for the “New India” we have envisioned. We have a conviction that Escorts will be a partner in India’s growth story and will become a blue chip company again. n We have seen some positive movement in sectors such as infrastructure, as is Rajan Nanda Chairman Nikhil Nanda Managing Director World of Escorts l February 2015 India’s First Anti-Lift Tractor is here! Revolution in driver safety F rom being the farmer’s ‘best friend’, the tractor is increasingly evolving to being a specialized equipment that serves a variety of users and applications. Whether it is basic farming, haulage, commercial use, mining, or infrastructural applications, the tractor is being used like never before. As a harbinger of farm mechanization in India, Escorts Agri Machinery understands the growing needs of Indian economy for specialized machines and equipment. To match these discerning needs, we are transforming ourselves from being just a tractor manufacturer to a provider of mechanized solutions for the farmers. Escorts has, over the years, brought in a series of innovations to redefine the tractor market. With our customized machines – including the Farmtrac Executive Series, the Powertrac Euro Series and the Ferrari tractors – we have set new benchmarks in comfort, aesthetics and performance. Very recently, Escorts also showcased its European version of 4x4 Farmtrac 6050 Heritage Series that caters to all kinds of haulage requirements. The latest revolutionary offering to join our innovation bandwagon is a brand new category of tractors – the ‘Anti-Lift Tractors’. Usually, tractors are vulnerable because of their front lift nature, which often results in reduced or no steering of front wheels. With a fully-loaded trailer hitched to the tractor in haulage operations, the driver finds it difficult to pull the load without 2 the fear of tumbling over. This not only puts his life at great risk, but also causes considerable damage to the machine, leading to increased maintenance cost for the owner. The Anti-Lift Tractor (ALT), developed using innovative technology through a series of path-breaking measures, considerably improves the front lift resistance capability of the tractor, thereby minimizing the possibility of damage. Built around the concept of ‘Driver Safety’ and ‘Owner Savings’, and developed specifically for commercial haulage operators, the Anti-Lift Tractor from Powertrac once again underlines Escorts’ superior understanding of customer requirements. So far, Indian machine manufacturers have not been pro-active and sympathetic towards ameliorating the hapless driving conditions experienced by haulage tractor operators, particularly in mining and transportation. Escorts is leading by example by innovating precision and anti-drudgery equipment with world class technology for Indian customers. With a determination to create tractors of the future that eliminate drudgery from the lives of ordinary Indians, our engineers have understood the pain of haulage customers and designed India’s first comprehensive lift resistant tractors in the form of the new ALT Series. We are proud of being the first company in the country to cater to operator safety in its own unique way, without compromising on machine profitability. Our Anti-Lift Tractor brings freedom from drudgery and life-threatening situations for the driver, while offering never-before value-for-money to the tractor owner. Inspired by global industrial range of tractors, our haulage specialist ALT Series is designed to become the new tractor class of commercial earthmovers within the agri machinery and construction equipment industry. The ALT Series is currently available in two models - ALT 3500 and ALT 4000 – and was recently launched in the cities of Patna, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Pune and Patna. Designed with a higher wheel base, ALT Series is the first in class haulage tractor with custom designed Powerhaul machinery that guarantees equal load distribution between the tractor tyre lugs and increased abrasion withstanding capacity. Apart from a host of innovative safety measures, ALT is further complemented with a series of attributes that provide ultimate savings for the tractor owner. Conceived for 24x7 operations in industrial and mining conditions by entrepreneurial users, this series comes with increased fuel tank capacity up to 60 liters that provides higher fuel topping interval. With a certified fuelefficient engine, ALT promises 10% more saving through smart fuel consumption, 25% increased productivity from 24x7 operations without front lift hassle and yet another 30% increase in tyre life with The innovative anti-lift design of ALT has the Rear Tow Hook strategically positioned to get the hitching point forward and closer to rear axle to lend superior stability in commercial applications. The product has been provided with a heavy front axle for improved front reaction and higher stability. The custom-designed 85kg front bumpers give a robust, sporty look to the tractor, and also make way for increased protection and stability. Moreover, the H4 type high-intensity head lamp allows farmers to work 24X7, enhancing their productivity. Additional safety features such as chassis-supporting side structure, reflective strips for night-time working, and fender rail ensure safety for operator, passenger as well as passers-by. 4 use of specialist haulage tyres. Industrial class high performance coating of paint makes ALT even more appropriate for dusty conditions experienced in mining operations. The Anti-Lift Tractor is presently available in 37HP and 41HP with a tank capacity of 49 liters and 60 liters respectively, in the markets of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. Post the introduction of ALT technology version 1.0, Escorts is planning to extend further to versions 2.0 and 3.0 in the long run to bring safer, more robust and efficient products for this growing market segment. n SAFE MORE SAVE MORE • Longest wheel base • Appropriate center of gravity • Strategic position of rear tow hook • Haulage special tyre • Heavy front axle • • • • • 24X7 operations Smarter fuel consumption High quality paint 20% bigger fuel tank High lift capacity World of Escorts l February 2015 Cover Story Anti-Lift Tractor Launch Leadership Speak A nti-Lift Tractors from Powertrac once again underline our superior understanding of the customer requirements. No tractor company has endeavored before to ameliorate the hapless driving conditions experienced by the haulage operators, particularly in mining and transportation. Currently, while driving up a gradient, tractor tends to dance with a fully loaded trailer hitched to it, thereby putting the life of driver and his helper in precarious condition. Increased wear & tear and accidents also increase the inefficiencies for the tractor owner. Our ALT 3500 and ALT 4000 tractors will bring an end to all these untold miseries. We are looking forward to unleash a consumer and dealer awareness drive to communicate the idea behind Anti Lift Tractors.” S. Sridhar, Chief Executive Officer, Escorts Agri Machinery 5 World of Escorts l February 2015 News & Events Chairman and MD host Top Punjab, Haryana Dealers M r. Rajan Nanda, Chairman and Managing Director, and Mr. Nikhil Nanda, Managing Director, recently invited top dealers of Punjab and Haryana for an interactive discussion on the future of farm mechanization in India. Held at the Chairman’s Office, the meeting was attended by several top executives of Escorts Agri Machinery, including CEO, Mr. S. Sridhar, Chief of Sales & Marketing, Mr. Sameer Tandon, Mr. Neeraj Mehra, Mr. Sanjeev Bajaj, Mr. Kamlesh Yadav, Mr. Ravinder Sharma, Mr. Kewal Prakash, Mr. Manish Pandey, and Mr. Rajneesh Agarwal, along with 13 of the top dealers from Punjab and Haryana. The session helped Escorts get comprehensive feedback from the dealers on our product and service quality. The dealers also shared interesting insights and views on future needs of Indian farmers and farm mechanization in the country. n Escorts introduces Next Generation ‘XP Series’ Engine E scorts Agri Machinery has been a pioneer in offering innovative mechanization products and solutions to Indian farmers. Yet another addition to our stable is the next generation ‘XP Series’ engines, which have been launched recently. Currently Indian farmers use tractors for a variety of applications and each application calls for different engine RPM (rotations per minute) for optimal power and fuel performance. For example, heavy haulage requires 1200-2200rpm, rotavator 1600-1800rpm, thresher 1400-1800rpm, planter 1300-1500rpm and even a small water pump requires 1200rpm. But all engines are not capable of delivering optimum power and fuel efficiency across the entire RPM range and they are optimized for a very limited RPM range. The new XP Series Engine is configured to transform the farmer’s life through a revolutionary engine design. With this new offering, farmers can now work across the entire 1200-2200 rpm range without compromising on power and fuel efficiency. It enables customers to use the same tractor to optimize power and fuel efficiency across any type of agricultural or commercial application. This breakthrough engine design has been achieved by reducing the tension 6 between piston and liner and using graphite-coated piston rings to reduce friction and hence power losses. Also, the engine power has been optimized with the transmission speeds, resulting in enhanced fuel efficiency. The new engines are available in the 37, 41 and 50 HP range of Farmtrac tractors across the entire country. Speaking about the technological marvel, Mr. Sameer Tandon, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Escorts Agri Machinery, said, “Being a technologydriven farm solutions provider, we constantly raise the bar through product innovation. India is at a very nascent stage of agri mechanization. Tractor is the only power source for the farmer to cater to all his needs. We understood the farmer’s need for powerful yet fuel-efficient engines and Farmtrac XP Series is crafted to cater to it.” n Farmtrac Unit wins National Safety Award W e proudly announce and congratulate the team of Escorts Agri Machinery’s Farmtrac manufacturing unit for winning the National Safety Award – Prashansa Patra – for 2013.
