Research 1: Microbial succession and identification in dairy and poultry manure composting (completed) Research 2: Effect of C/N Compost ratio in relation to the asiaticoside content in pegaga (Centella asiatica) (completed) The Development of Production Protocols to Commercialise Production of Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) (MOSTI Technofund) This project aims to develop a complete localisation of the technologies required to successfully develop tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) as a commercial crop in Sabah. Scope of Work: Propagation – germination from seeds, tissue culture and grafts to develop a commercially valuable planting material for the development of plantations and nursery care; Workers in the field Planting, maintenance and harvesting – development of efficient methods to match the specific requirements of Sabah in both the small holder and plantation sector, particularly focusing on organic and integrated methods of cultivation and maintenance; and Oil extraction and post harvest handling – the development of an efficient steam distillation system, utilising non-petroleum source of energy to develop world acceptable practice and sustainability, and at the same time efficiency in accordance with the local conditions in Sabah. 10 ha tea tree plantation Pekerja di ladang Ladang tea tree 10 ha ladang tea tree Makmal kultur tisu Rak kultur tisu Eksplan tea tree Essential Oil distiller 400L Essential Oil distiller 40L Integrated Herbal Medicine Knowledge Base Database (MOSTI Technofund) http://www.sabahinfomed.com.my This project aims to develop an integrated Herbal Medicinal Knowledge Base (HMKB). The knowledge database will be built utilizing latest semantic technology that enables relationship and links between concepts to be formed within the knowledge base. Knowledge (or data) acquired and stored in the database would come from many sources within the herbal medicine industry. In the early implementation stage, most of the information and data gathered would come from the current ethnobotanical knowledge of Sabah. hasProcess HerbalMedicine1 Process1 expandTo deriveFromHerb deriveFromHerb expandTo followedBy HerbUsed1 Process2 HerbUsed2 Process1 hasQuantity hasUnit 4 ontologies xsd:float Unit hasChemical Constituent hasHerb hasHerb hasQuantity hasUnit xsd:string Herb1 xsd:float Unit Herb2 hasPharmacology Activity Pharmacology Activity1 Chemical Constituent hasPharmacology Toxiciity hasDescription Ontology design (based on relationship) useChemical hasChemical Constituent Chemical Used hasUnit HerbalMedicine KB hasQuantity Toxicity Process KB Herb KB mg/ml 500, 250 Pharmaceutical KB HMKB User Acceptance Test (UAT) CentOS Linux training HMKB Transfer of Technology (Ontology & OOES) by MIMOS engineers With SAIP as platform… R&D Initiatives by SEDIA • Satellite Biotechnology Project • Tea Tree Project • HMKB Project SAIP programmes for SME • SAIP Integrated Agro-Biotech Complex • 1Agro-SAIP Training Programme • Enterprise in Residence Programme (EIR) • Enterprise Accelerator Programme (EAP) Collaboration & Incentive • Networking and Collaboration (MOU signing with agencies & private companies) • SDC Fiscal Incentive for SAIP SAIP Integrated Agro-Biotechnology Complex Vision To establish a state-of-art science-industry led, agro-biotechnology incubation centre which can facilitate the translation of innovative business ideas by Small and Medium Enterprises especially start-ups into viable agri-business and agro-biotechnology ventures. Mission To facilitate the creation of competitive and resilient agri-business enterprises and agrobiotechnology ventures through the provision of integrated support and advisory services in research and development (R&D), commercialisation, project and business planning, financing, production, processing, packaging, marketing, accreditation and distribution activities. Objectives • To create greater awareness on the business potential in the agriculture and biotechnology sectors; • To provide support services for SMEs and star-ups to develop and translate business proposals, especially creative and innovative business ideas into viable business ventures; and • To assist existing SMEs and start-ups to grow and expand their respective business ventures.
