Principal’s Message Bulldog Assembly IMPORTANT NOTE: st Bradner School Swim - Friday, May 1 , 2015 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Any child under 7 years of age and any child who is considered a non-swimmer must have an adult (18 years or over) with them in the water and at arms-length away, at all times. Any child who is under 7 years of age or a non-swimmer and not accompanied by an adult will not be permitted to swim on swim day. We encourage parents to make whatever arrangements necessary, as early as possible, so that all students have the opportunity to participate. Many thanks! MAY POLE DANCE TEAM – FLOAT URGENTLY NEEDED The Bradner Maypole Dance Team is in urgent need of a Float for the upcoming May Day Parade. If you have one, or know someone, who has access to a Float and could lend it to Ms. Collier for the upcoming celebration, please contact the office at (604) 856-3304. Each year the Maypole Dance Team ride on a float in the May Day Parade, prior to performing their wonderfully choreographed May Pole Dances at the opening ceremonies. The float should be able to accommodate at least 40 students and a few chaperones, and must be decorated prior to arrival. We are also looking for volunteers to decorate the float. Thank you from the Maypole Dance Team. This year’s theme is “The Good, the Bad & the Bug-ily”. Find out what is in your garden! Friday 2:00 pm - Handbells presentation performed by Bradner Elementary Div. 1 & 2 Opening Ceremony on Friday at 2:00 pm will feature Special Guest Jim Matteoni, entomologist & Instructor at Kwantlen University. The show will also include 100′s of varieties of daffodils & narcissi on display, art, crafts, music, demos featuring local chefs, wineries, breweries & gardening experts. Saturday/Sunday hot dogs 11:00 am – 2:00 pm available outside. Plant & Flower Sale – unusual varieties, perennials, potted daffodils, cut flowers, loads to choose from! All proceeds from | Page 2 of 4 cut flower sales donated to Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre. If you could help, please drop off your baking at the Bradner Hall before Friday @ 10:00 am or at Bradner Elementary School. The Walking Club – Heart & Stroke Foundation Bradner Elementary‘s Walking Club will begin on Tuesday, April 7th, and will run for 4 weeks (until Thursday, April 30th). We will walk Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 12:00 pm. Please make sure your children come with proper footwear and clothing on these days. All students must have a signed Permission Form in order to collect their prize! Planning on Moving We are already busy planning for the next school year. If you know that you are moving this spring or summer, or will not be attending at Bradner in September, could you please contact the office and let us know. Thank You. All Kindergarten Programs for the 2015/2016 school year will be Full Day Kindergarten in keeping with Ministry of Education Policy. (Complete information can be found on the district website http://www.sd34.bc.ca/schools/registration/kindergarten Ready, Set, Learn for 3 & 4 year olds will be held @ Bradner on WEDNESDAY, April 22nd from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Parents, and their children born in 2010 or 2011 are invited to come to a Ready, Set, Learn (RSL) event at their neighbourhood school. Every child will be given a bag of learning supplies. Parents will be given resources and ideas about how to support their child in using these materials. Ready, Set, Learn is to help parents receive valuable information for helping preschoolers experience success and provide 3 & 4 year-old children with a good head start for kindergarten. We will have activities with stories; letters; words and printing. Families will receive an information kit. Please call Mrs. Juulsen to Register (604) 856-3304 Report Cards Nights of Music - Report Cards were sent home prior to Spring Break. If you have not done so already, please keep the report card for your records and sign and return the envelope to your classroom teacher. Students in Division 1 and 2 will be performing live this evening at the School District Nights of Music, Thursday, April 2nd at 7 p.m. @ Abby Arts Centre. Our students will be playing handbells as part of a wonderful evening of music. Come early for a great seat! Public Speaking APRIL 8th @ 1:00 - 3:15 p.m. Kindergarten 2015-2016 Kindergarten Registration for the Abbotsford School District commenced on Monday, January 19th. If you have a friend or neighbour who has a child eligible for Kindergarten this September, please advise them to come and fill out the Registration Forms. Our school public speaking competition is quickly approaching. Grades 4-7 students are expected to write a speech and deliver it. The deadlines are as follows: - Grade finals are being conducted the week of March 31 – April 2nd, with School finals held on Wednesday, April 8th @ 1:00 pm in the school gym. A breakdown of the Public Speaking expectations were sent home earlier this week, please discuss these dates with your child as there is a very tight timeline to adhere to. We are looking forward, once again, to excellent speeches. It is time once again for the Bradner Community to choose a May Day Representative. The May Queen, Brooklyn Price and her Prince and Princess, Cameron Wenting and Karmdeep Sangha will host a Tea. The May Day Tea is on Tuesday, April 21st at 4:00 p.m., and will determine the new royalty for 2015/2016. May Day Representatives who wish to participate, should come prepared with a speech on “What May Day Means to Me” and will be interviewed by a panel of independent judges. If selected, May Day Representative duties include the Bradner Flower Show, April 2015 Bradner May Day Celebrations; Canada Day Parade; and various school functions. We would love for people from our school and community to come up with either a parade float, riding your decorated bike, dirt bikes, Atv’s , horse, or even just walking with your family pet, or any other idea to join in on the parade this year. Please take a few minutes to check over your child’s head. To identify nits (the lice eggs): They are small white eggs, firmly attached to the hair shaft especially around the ears and nape of neck. The adult lice are grey-white, sometimes brown, 1-2 mm long. Check your child for lice if he/she is scratching their head or if a friend/classmate has head lice Teach your child to not share hats, brushes, helmets, hair barrettes and towels Keep long hair tied back when lice have been identified in your school If you discover live lice please notify the school office and contact the Upper Fraser Valley Health Unit @ (604) 864-3400 OR www.fraserhealth.ca WE hope everyone had a great Spring Break!
