In a Montessori environment, younger students learn by observing the lessons
performed by older children. Here a student is performing a Practical Life exercise of
cutting celery, while the younger child is observing the fascinating work of his hands.
From Sandra’s Desk
October started with tons of excitement.
First we had our NAEYC Assessment leading to Re-Accreditation. I will keep you further informed
as we hear from the Academy.
I organized a private class for our first Staff Development Day of ‘13-’14, the purpose of this
in-service was to develop more tools for ourselves to put at the service of the children, and you our parent
community. The focus was Inclusion, Educational Assessment Tools, Early Intervention, Community Resources, California Law as it pertains to early childhood services, and Elementary level services. We want
to make sure that we have the resources, and latest research available to us, in order to partner with our
families as soon as possible developmental issues become apparent.
For this purpose we hire an Educational Physiologist consultant. Mrs. Felt has done extensive case work for
several years at the Palo Alto Unified School District. She was an IDEA ( Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) Program Regional Director/Coordinator when it became Federal Law.
Our staff is always expanding their education through classes, conferences, and seminars.
Breakfast in the Park, was such a perfect event-!! The weather was superb, we shared a fantastic
brunch, the children & families were happy, and this was easy to witness on everyone smiles. Thank you
for participating. It means the World to us to see involved families, and participating with your children in
school activities is a great way to show your support for our school. I understand that a few families had
last minute guests, babies that were not feeling well, etc. You were missed-! We’ll think of other opportunities to get together during this school year.
Lastly, I want you to remember that your best partners regarding any issues that the children may
be exhibiting are your child’s teachers. They have wealth of knowledge, education, experience, knowhow, and best of all tricks-up-their-sleeves :)
I wish you all a happy & healthy Autumn Season
Booo!!! Booo!!!

Dear Parents,
Welcome to a brand new school year! It has been such a pleasure to see our returning
families and to welcome new families to be a part of Casa Class. At school, the children are
busy challenging themselves with work and developing their social graces by practicing “Greetings in the morning”. We are working on adding the phrases “Please,” “Thank you,” as well
as “Excuse me” into their routines. During lunch we are practicing saying “I am satisfied” after
finishing a meal course. We encourage you to help us at home to continue building these skills
together.
We would like to welcome our new students who were promoted from the Pre-Primary
Class. They are Eric, Eliza Noor, Lily and Mostafa. We also have new students joining Casa
dei Bambini. They are Aditya, Andrew, Bruno, Carmel, Nelson, Timothy and Heloisa. We are
excited to have such a great class and we expect that we will see great progress in their learning and skills this year.
This month, we will be discussing and learning about the life cycle of a bean plant by
creating our very own germinators. We will be making a paper tree with colorful fall leaves
from our garden. Also, we will be celebrating Halloween in the classroom. Our celebration is
always child-friendly and never scary. The children will decorate a bag for them to use during
our school “Halloween” fun day.

Children enjoy learning about farm animals. In Casa Class, we talk about animals, what
they look like, where they live and what they eat. If you would like to reinforce these lessons,
you might want to visit Tilden Park in Berkeley. It is a vintage park with rides, a little farm, a
lake for fishing and swimming, as well as a golf course and picnic spot. Please visit
www.ebparks.org/parks/tilden.htm for more information.
We understand that getting back into the school routine after summer can be a challenge both for the children as well as the families. You may want to take some time to review
the information in the school handbook and familiarize yourself with the school guidelines for
drop off procedures, late arrivals, absences, etc. If we can help answer any questions, our
email is [email protected] and our faculty line is 650-473-9595. We will happily reply
to your emails and return your calls between the hours of
3PM-4PM.
We look forward to working with you throughout the year to ensure the continued happiness and success of our Bambini.

Snack time is an important and fun aspect of
the Montessori classroom.
Children learn to serve their
snacks themselves. It also
helps develop social skills.

Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new school year!
We are glad, after such an incredible Summer Camp of rich and new amazing experiences, to see the children back in their uniforms. They look wonderful!
This year we are blessed with some new children joining Room #13. Our family has
grown with five new members! We say “Hello” to Charlie, Dahlia, Anya S., Athena and Viv, all
of whom are enjoying life in Primary Class!
The month of September went fast. We are focusing on reinforcing some Montessori
basics, especially in Grace and Courtesy, which is the foundation of our community. We also
worked on adjusting to the classroom routine and weekly schedule.
Gym, Music, Spanish and French classes were brought back smoothly and regularly.
One of our goals this year is to help the parents lead their children through the journey
of growth by reinforcing some Character Education principles that are part of our Montessori
curriculum. It is amazing to see Montessori philosophy being validated by new discoveries in
modern Psychology, Pedagogy, Neuroscience and through daily observations in the classrooms.
These same principles will be cultivated and built into our monthly Lesson Plan which
this month includes projects about the changes in nature during fall season, and highlighting the
metamorphosis of plants and animals. Winter vegetables will be planted in our garden and some
seasonal vegetables will be used to cook tasty dishes according to the holiday season.

It is with the confidence that this is going to be a dynamic and productive school year
that we send you our most affectionate welcome!
Warmly,
Mrs. Roshan and Mrs. Rosella

Here a young child is freely choosing a Practical Life activity from many available on the shelf.
Freedom of choice is not an easy lesson to master.
Montessori realized that the child needs to be
educated in making choices from a young age. So
the teacher makes sure that the child has enough
lesson options with material designed for his or her
age.
Pre-Primary
Dear Parents,
The new school year was busy and fun. Please welcome to Preprimary Class James, Xavier, Zaya, Lara, Julie and Natalie who joined our classroom during the summer, as well as Huxley, Ela and Avni who joined at the beginning of the school year.
We would also like to give a big “thank you” to Daphne who assisted them in numerous ways to become comfortable in the
classroom.
The children are slowly getting used the routine and improving their skills daily. We would like to thank you for being
understanding and supporting the teachers to help make this transitional time easier for your child.
During the month of October we will be studying about farms. We will extend this unit by bringing in fresh fruits and
vegetables to the classroom. They will be able to use their five senses to feel, smell, taste, identify the color and hear when they
eat crunchy vegetables and fruits. We would like you to encourage your child to bring in something that is related to this topic
for sharing for a example a book, vegetable or a fruit you bought at farmers market so that we can cut them and share with the
class.
Sorting is a Sensorial exercise
that helps in visual discrimination and
develops Math and Reading skills.
Flower Arrangement is a Practical Life exercise, which helps in
taking care of the environment.
We will talk about Halloween as well as fall this month with numerous hands-on art projects and lessons. Your children are
showing an interest in dressing and using the potty by themselves. In order to support these skills we ask you to send them to
school dressed in comfortable clothing such as elastic waist pants and a T-shirt or top. Also, please label your child’s clothing
as this helps us to identify them.
Here are some helpful web sites if you would like to extend this unit about farms:

Thank You,
Mrs. Mala & Mrs. Lidia.
