MONTANA AND STÖCKLI
SWISS TEAMWORK FOR MORE
THAN 50 YEARS!
MONTANA and STÖCKLI have an excellent cooperation for many, many years.
Walter Reusser, director Wintersport at STÖCKLI explains the reasons as follows:
MONTANA machines convince also in the ski production.
1935, STÖCKLI was founded in Wolhusen in
the canton of Lucerne. The traditional company is still there and is using the production
location in Switzerland with success. In the
meantime, STÖCKLI is now selling their products in 33 countries.
MONTANA was founded in 1939 in the
canton Lucerne and is now located in Stans
in the canton Nidwalden. For more than 50
years, the two companies are connected
with their production location in Switzerland
as well as with a successful cooperation.
With a new project for the company
STÖCKLI, in which the skis in production
will no longer be belt sanded but directly
will be stone ground, the cooperation of
the two companies will be extended.
“STÖCKLI celebrates this year their 80 th
Birthday – these days, not a usual
event. What are the cornerstones of the
success of the company?”
Walter Reusser: ”STÖCKLI, has celebrated
this year their 80 year jubilee and can therefore counted on for long tradition. We are
a Swiss company which is strong and solid
built. Beside our skis, we also produce high
tech mountain bikes and E-bikes and have
for 30 years owned our own retail net in
14 different areas in Switzerland. We are
selling our products in Switzerland and in
addition to selling in Switzerland at selected
specialized stores. 45% of our skis are sold
in foreign countries. An additional important step was the moment when we joined
the ski world cup. In earlier days, we had
the title of the Swiss army ski producer. Today we move at eye level with the established ski producers from all over the world.”
“STÖCKLI continues to produce in
Wolhusen. Based on the actual exchange
rate situation, a courageous decision.”
“For us, the swap of the production was
never a question. In the contrary! In order
to meet with the increasing demand, we
will build up the production location in
Malters within the next few years. STÖCKLI
stands for Swiss Made, including the virtues
like innovation, quality and continuity.”
Walter Reusser, director Wintersport STÖCKLI
”The skis from STÖCKLI have a worldwide
reputation to have one of the best end
finishes ex-factory. What is the reason for
it?”
“The reason among other things is that we
do not have two production lines, for racingand consumer skis which means all our skis
are produced on the same machines, by the
same operators and one to one in the same
production process. Therefore, we have the
same quality standard for all skis. In addition,
we demand ourselves to produce the best
skis with respect to quality and functioning.
We want to constantly develop and improve
in order to be able to offer to our customers,
the best products.”
“Now recently, STÖCKLI has decided to
purchase a new production line from
MONTANA. What were the reasons for it?”
“In the meantime in the racing section, we
can offer individual set ups for our athletes.
Such an individualizing, we would also like
to offer to our customers. In the future, all
our skis will be leaving the production with
individual end finishes. Here, MONTANA
has supplied a convincing project which
will be developed together. Already now,
we are looking forward to bring the machines jointly into operation.”
“It is already the second time, that you have
decided for a completely new development
with the company MONTANA.”
“Yes, that is correct. Beside the vicinity, the
attachment of the traditional Swiss companies over many years, the positive experiences of the last project did in the end also
determine the cooperation with MONTANA.
MONTANA has proven that they can produce
a complete project in series. But I consider,
that the new project is even more complicated and I am happy about the positive
experiences from our last project. That gives
us the certainty, that we will also be successful this time.”
“Which requirements must the new production line fulfil?”
“The output must be increased. In addition,
we want an exact reproducibility and a fast
change to new models. But most important
is the quality of the finish and the individual
adaption of all ski models. Our goal is, that
the customer after purchase can reproduce
his personal finish ex-factory at any time
with one of our worldwide partners.”

MONTANA machines win over also in the ski production.
Walter Reusser, director Wintersport STÖCKLI, and
Martha Anita Poletti, CEO MONTANA Sport International AG,
a cooperation which speaks for itself.
“Which cost reductions will the new
production line from MONTANA bring for
the company STÖCKLI in production?”
“We expect an efficiency increase of about
40%. For us, not only the cost reduction is
important but also the progression to become better.”
“How does the future look at the
company STÖCKLI?”
“The demand has internationally strongly
increased thanks to the top performance
and the success in racing. That demand we
will match with the planned extension.”
“Which were the reasons for the company
STÖCKLI to work on the new production
line with MONTANA?”
“On one side, the proximity to each other
and the very long partnership. Also the
cooperation of two family companies is
important for us in the meaning of confidence. On the other side, also the quality
of the machines and the flexibility of new
developments because we are too small for
a complete huge grinding line but also too
big for a prototype production. Also, we
need industrialized, specifically to our need

adjusted machines which correspond with
our high quality standards. There, it just
needs good people which know what to
do and how important the reliability is in
the production. Due to these reasons, we
decided on MONTANA.”
“Does the new production line from
MONTANA also help to keep the ski in the
world cup on the existing high level?”
“We expect, that due to the new grinding
process to reach a new level and that also
the racing department can profit from it.
That means, that not “only” our customers
get an advantage but also the race sport.
In addition, the new production line should
help that we can perfectly match everything from the basic preparation up to the
finish.“
