Project Description
The Abaco Club on Winding Bay is a 534 acre Ritz Carlton managed resort located on the pristine Winding
Bay beach in the southern district of Abaco. The resort includes hotel/guest rooms, private estate residential
properties and a world class golf course amongst a myriad of resort amenities. The resort is situated on almost
2 miles of pristine sandy beach.
The beach has undergone some extensive erosion over the years in certain locations. The Abaco Club
undertook an exercise to study the beach and ultimately carry out some dune protection and restoration
measures. The dune stabilization program included a buried boulder revetment followed by a dune replanting
exercise in order to provide protection to physical property from extreme events with minimal impact to the
surrounding environment.
CCS Role
•
CCS was initially engaged by the Abaco Club to conduct an assessment of the severe erosion and
present options to protect the dune. Our assignment ultimately resulted in an extensive physical survey
of the dune and beach in the area affected, as well as the development of engineering and construction
documents for the dune restoration project.

In our consultancy role, our team worked closely with the Government of The Bahamas (GOB) agencies
to ensure all environmental concerns were addressed and the necessary permits were obtained.

CCS was also engaged as the construction project manager to execute the construction program.
A resident engineer was on site throughout the project to ensure compliance with the resort and GOB
requirements as well as to ensure construction quality control.

As a follow up to the dune restoration program, CCS is also involved with ongoing monitoring of the
performance of the beach including regular beach profiling.
