Vol 7 Issue 3 - SOUTHERN ARIZONA CHAPTER – BUICK CLUB OF
Volume 7, Issue 3
Director’s Message
I think many people on the east side are
still trying to put their eyeballs back into their
heads after watching such an amazing display of
rolling Buicks last month. For those of you that
couldn't make it, we had a great turnout for
February's club outing. After a nutritious
breakfast at Sonic, a great line of vintage iron,
complete with tikertape, dancing baton girls, and
a giant inflatable Kermit, motored to the house
of Woodsworth. What we found there shocked
even the most seasoned gearheads. Building
after building of restored classics, each one even
more rare and beautiful than the last. Many
thanks to Woody for being such a gracious
curator and host.
On a sadder note, I received a call early
this morning from a fellow Buick driver in
distress. His name is Nate Gwynne, and he
drives a yellow 55 Special on a daily basis. The
264 Nailhead in his car failed spectacularly on
Golf Links this morning, turning the engine
block into a basket of broken parts. He is having
the car towed to Dan Drager's shop for
diagnosis, although by his description of the
problem, the outlook is bleak. Does anyone in
the club have any spare nailhead parts that they
would be willing to part with for a reasonable
price? If so, Nates # is 256-6214, and he would
love to hear from you.
Be sure not to miss the next general
meeting on March 9th... Royal Buick's Shop
Foreman John Reece will be our guest speaker!!!
Unfortunately, he was sick last month and
couldn't make it, but now he's back and better
than ever!! For those of you that have not met

him, he is a human shop manual, complete
with all the extra bulletins! If it has tires and
a steering wheel, he probably knows how to
fix it. Bring your questions about cars new
and old, and prepare for car-nirvana!!!
Lastly, don't forget about our March
outing to the Sierra Vista car show on the
20th. It benefits the Boys and Girls club, so
be sure to show your support!
-Alex
P.S. We will be having dessert at Village Inn
after the meeting.
Editor’s Comments
Hello All!!! As I sit here and write the newsletter.
I am watching Jay Leno on T.V. A guest asked
him what was his favorite car. Believe it or not,
the first one he mentioned was his ’55 Buick. I
found some information on the internet about it.
You can find it later in the newsletter.
It is that time of year again. We need to collect
dues from the members. If you look at your
newletter address label, you will see the up to date
expiration of your dues. Please use the enclosed
form to send in your dues to the Club’s P.O. Box.
The March outing will be at the Boys and Girls Club
car show in Sierra Vista. You can find the entry
form
in
the
February
newsletter
or
http://www.svkidsplace.com. We are going to meet
at the Carl’s Jr parking lot on Irvington just west of
Alvernon at 7:30 AM on Saturday the 20th. It is a 70
mile trip down to Sierra Vista.

I want to find out if any of you want to start getting the
newsletter online. This will save the club printing and mailing
costs if you would rather get your newsletter electronically. If
you do, please email me and I will set you up in the
distribution list. I will basically email everyone that the
newsletter is ready and where to download it from our
website. This way you can either read it on your screen or
print it out in fancy color if you have a color printer. Let me
know.
I have included a clearer entry form for the April outing
show. It is in Oracle, AZ. That is about 20 miles north of
Tucson heading toward Globe. We will even be able to
participate in the parade down to the show field.
It is that time again when we need to start talking about our
annual show in November. I will be looking for volunteers
who want to help plan and orchestrate out show this year.
We had a good turnout last year and I am working on some
ideas that will hopefully bring out even more people.
I wanted to start bugging everyone again about posting
information about their car on the website. My ultimate goal
will be to post information about everyone’s automobile on
the site. I think this would help bring new people into the
group to see how energetic we are about our cars. Please
mail to the club P.O. Box or email me just basic information :
model, year, color, drivetrain details, etc. A little short story
behind how you got the car and adventures in it would also
be great. If you mail me physical pictures, I will ensure that
you get them back. I can even arrange to come and take
pictures of your car if you do not have access to a camera.

Jay Leno ’55 Buick
I found this information is summarized from a picture that was on Leno’s ’55 Buick Roadmaster at the SEMA ’03 show.
“Jay Leno purchased this Roadmaster in 1972 for $350 and drove it everywhere in his early California days. After sitting
idle for more than 16 years, Jay and his Big Dog Garage crew began a restoration and improvement project in 2002.
Using GM Performance Parts and some custom components, the Roadmaster has been brought back to life with a stock
looking appearance. But under the skin is a serious street rod that anyone who like power and performance will
appreciate…”
This car basically looks stock from the outside, but it has a 620 HP 570+ cubic inch Chevrolet engine. It also have the
suspension from a Corvette grafted under the carriage.
January 2004 Outing -- Tubac Car Show
In January, we went down to the Tubac car show. This was delayed a week due to the rain on the original show date.
There were less then 10 Buicks down there. However, they managed to take three first place awards. I would like to
congradulate Chuck Taylor, Bob Gietl, and Bill Schoening for their first place prizes. This is always a good outing
because the great variety of cars is amazing. Until next year…

February 2004 Outing – Woody’s Garage
The February outing was to Woody Woodworth’s house. We first met at Sonic for a
breakfast meeting. After we took over the drive-in for 1.5 hours, we headed out to
Woody’s house. We had about a 10 car caravan. Woody has a fine collection of
automobiles in his numerous garages. It was nice to see such wide vararity of cars in one
location. It was a fun afternoon and yes.. most of those cars I could not identify. I
needed help with most of them. Until next time…..
