Dear Fans of Glassboro Athletics:
As I enter into my eleventh year as the Athletic Director for the Glassboro High
School, I want you to know that I am very privileged to serve in this position. I
have been fortunate to watch some of the state’s finest athletes compete for
Glassboro High School athletic teams. Glassboro has a strong tradition in athletics and it is a tribute not only to those who have competed but to those who
have supported the athletic teams over the years.

Tonight we honor former student-athletes. They have all brought honor to
Glassboro High School and the Community of Glassboro. As a former member
of the committee, I proudly salute their efforts with the induction into the Glassboro Athletic Hall of Fame.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who have supported tonight’s
induction ceremony and to the student athletes who have brought honor to
Glassboro High School athletics. Your support is vital to the success of tonight’s banquet and it makes all the difference in the world to those who we

LILLIAN WOLFBRANDT TRUITT ~ 43
Lillian graduated from Glassboro High School in 1943. She
distinguished herself in field hockey and basketball during their high
school athletic career.
In the fall, Lillian was one of the most dominant female athletes at Glassboro High School. She earned three varsity letters in
field hockey and was also a cheerleader in her junior and senior
years. Lillian was the captain of the cheerleading squad in 1942.
In the winter, Lillian played basketball for the Lady Bulldogs. She earned four varsity letters during her career.
Lillian is deceased and accepting this award on her behalf is
her daughter Patti Krause.
DONALD W. BEACH ~ ‘55
IN LOVING MEMORY OF:
Don graduated from Glassboro High School in 1965. He
distinguished himself in football, wrestling and baseball during
his high school athletic career.
Don played quarterback for Coach Jim Doyle from 1961
to 1964. He started varsity in his junior and senior seasons.
As a wrestler, Don wrestled varsity for four years under
Coaches Hinton and Guthermuth.
Ray Rollins coached Don on the varsity baseball team
from 1963 to 1965. Don played catcher for the Bulldogs.
Following high school, Don attended Rutgers University
in New Brunswick, NJ. After graduation, Don joined the Army
as an Operations Officer. He headed the Army’s Golden Nights
Para shoot team. He is currently a commercial pilot and lives in
Taylorsville, Kentucky.

FRANK TOUGHILL ~ ‘50
Frank graduated from Glassboro High School in 1950. He
distinguished himself in football, wrestling and baseball during his
high school athletic career.
Frank was an excellent football player. He earned three
varsity letters as a Bulldog running back. The Brooks-Irvine Football club selected him to “2nd Team All-South Jersey” in his junior
year. As a senior, he was named “Most Outstanding Schoolboy
Football Player” in South Jersey. Frank was also select as the
team’s MVP.
Frank was the captain of the wrestling team in its first varsity season and he went on to States in his first year of wrestling.
Frank also excelled in baseball, where he was awarded
three varsity letters.
At graduation, he was selected Most Athletic for the class
of 1950.
Following
high
school, he went on to be a
member of the #1 football
team in the nation in 1955 at
the University of Maryland.
Frank worked for DuPont
for 40 years. He is now retired and living in Massachusetts
NANCY BOYD TOUGHILL ~ ‘50
Nancy Boyd graduated from Glassboro High School in
1950. She distinguished herself in field hockey and basketball
during her high school athletic career.
In field hockey, Nancy played three years of varsity at
left wing.
Nancy played four years of varsity basketball and was a
caption for three years. She held the record for most points scored
in a game with 33 points.
Following high school, she married Frank and worked as a
secretary at GHS. They currently live in Hingham, Mass. They
have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
WILLIAM TAGGART ~ ‘64

Bill graduated from Glassboro High School in 1964.
He distinguished himself in football, wrestling and track & field
during his high school athletic career.
In football, Bill played on the line and earned three varsity letters. He was co-captain of the 1963 Bulldogs. In his senior
year, he was selected “Player of the Year.”
As a wrestler, Bill earned three varsity letters.
In track and field, Bill specialized in running the mile.
He earned four varsity letters and set the school record in the
mile run in 1964.
Following high school, Bill attended Glassboro State
College and played football. Bill and his wife, Donna currently
live in Woodbury, New Jersey.

ROBERT L. CHESTER ~ ‘74
Robert graduated from Glassboro High School in
1974. He distinguished himself in soccer and tennis during his
high school athletic career.
During his soccer career, Bob played defense for Coach
Groff and earned four varsity letters. In his senior year, he was
selected “1st Team All-Olympic Conference,” “All-Gloucester
County,” “All-South Jersey” and “All-State” in Group I.
In tennis, Bob played singles while earning four varsity
letters. He was selected “1st Team All-Olympic Conference”
and “All-South Jersey” in Group I. At graduation, Bob was selected as the recipient of the Walter L. Marshall Award.
Following high school, Bob graduated from the University of Georgia where he played tennis for one year. Bob and
Kimberly, his wife, have two lovely children, Jennifer and
Katherine. The Chester family currently resides in Ellijay,
Georgia.

RICHARD STRANG ~ ‘46
Richard graduated from Glassboro High School in 1946.
He distinguished himself in football and basketball during his high
school athletic career.
When Richard was in 8th grade, he was asked to play Junior
Varsity football for the high school. He accepted the offer to play
and started to learn the offensive tackle position. He went on to
earn varsity letters in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
Richard was selected captain in his junior year.

In the winter, Coach Grodotski quickly recruited Richard to
play basketball. He played center for the Bulldogs from 1943 to
1945. He quickly established himself as a main stay for the Bulldogs.
In 1945, Richard went into the service, as many of our
young men did at that time. Richard is retired and living in Williamstown, New Jersey.

SEAN-MICHAEL CLEARY ~ 2000
Sean-Michael Cleary graduated from Glassboro High School
in 2000. He distinguished himself in football and baseball during
his high school athletic career.
During his football career, Sean-Michael was a three year
varsity letter winner and captain in his senior year. He earned honors from the Brooks-Irvine Football Club and Touchdown Club of
South Jersey. Both organizations selected Sean-Michael “1st Team
All-South Jersey Linebacker.” He was also honored as the “Back of
the Year” by the Touchdown Club and “Scholar Athlete” by the
Brooks-Irvine Club. As a scholar athlete, Sean-Michael was “1st
Team All-Star” in the Tri- County Conference, Gloucester County
and the “Courier Post All-Group I Team.” In his senior year, the
Bulldogs finished the season undefeated 12-0 and were the #1 team
in South Jersey.
As a baseball player, Sean-Michael earned three varsity letters and was selected as team MVP in his senior year. The TriCounty Conference athletic directors honored him as a “Scholar
Athlete” in the spring of his senior year.
At graduation, Sean-Michael was the recipient of the Frank
Flowers Scholarship, Walter
Marshall Award, Fred Kalapos
Award, Dawson Award, a
Bloustein Scholar and the Glassboro Faculty Bowl.
Following high school,
Sean-Michael attended Rutgers
University as an honors engineering student. Sean-Michael
decided to enlist in the U. S. Army to become an Army Ranger.
He is currently a Staff
Sargent in Fort Stewart, Savannah, Georgia.
DAN SOTTILE ~ ‘75
Dan graduated from Glassboro High School in 1975. He
distinguished himself in football, wrestling and baseball during
his high school athletic career.
Dan played defensive back for Coach Slomsky and Coach
Aveni. He earned three varsity letters during his career. He was
also selected “1st Team All-Olympic Conference” and “AllGloucester County.”
Dan wrestled 135lb. weight class for Coach Bob Seibold.
In his senior year, as team captain, Dan’s record was 27-1. He
was “District Champion,” “Region 8 Champion,” “1st Team AllConference,” “All-Gloucester County” and “2nd Team All-South
Jersey.” Dan earned three varsity letters in wrestling.

As a baseball player, Dan played left field for Coach Mike
Toscano. Coach Toscano was always wishing for a pocket full of
Sottile’s because of the way Dan played the game. Dan earned
two varsity letters and was selected “All-Conference” twice. In
his senior year, Dan was the
captain of the team.
At graduation, Dan was
the recipient of the St. Anthony’s and the Walter Marshall
Award Award.
Following high school,
Dan attended Glassboro State
College. He currently lives in
Sewell, New Jersey with his
wife, Deborah, and their three
children, Daniel Jr., Joseph and
Anthony.

COACH JIM DOYLE
Coach Doyle was the head football coach from 1960 to
1965. He accumulated a 25 – 27 - 2 record. His finest year was
when the Bulldogs went 8 and 1 in 1964. Doyle’s boys outscored
their opponents 112 to 52. The 1964 team shutout four teams that
year, they were Deptford, Edgewood, Overbrook and Williamstown. The Bulldogs were Olympic Conference Champions and
were Gloucester County Co-Champions.
Jim also coached Track and Field for the Bulldogs from
1956 to 1966. The program complied a record of 51 – 37. He
coached many outstanding athletes during his career such as
George Hartsfield, Greg Joannides, Tom Rutherford and Steve
Baumgart.
Coach Doyle is retired and currently lives in Cherry Hill,
New Jersey.

OZZIE SMITH-BEY ~’ 92
Ozzie graduated from Glassboro High School in 1992.
Ozzie distinguished himself in basketball during his high school
athletic career.
In basketball, Ozzie earned four varsity letters and was
selected “1st Team All-Tri County Conference” three times. He
scored over 1,000 points for the Bulldogs. As a senior, he was
given the Al Carino Award, selected “1st Team All-South Jersey” and named team MVP.
Following high school, he attended Hagerstown Junior
College where he continued his basketball career. Ozzie earned
an athletic scholarship to Lamar University.
Ozzie is a member of the Hagerstown Junior College
Hall of Fame and now a member of Glassboro’s Hall of Fame.

MARK GRAVES ~ ‘88
Mark graduated from Glassboro High School in 1988.
Mark distinguished himself in football, basketball and baseball
during his high school athletic career.

Varsity Club
Mark played running back for the Bulldogs and earned
three varsity letters. He was selected “1st Team All-Star” by the
Tri-County Conference, Gloucester County Times and the Courier Post. He was also selected as the team MVP.
In basketball, Mark earned three varsity letters as a guard.
He earned “1st Team All-Star” by the Tri-County Conference and
the Gloucester County Times. Mark was also selected “AllGroup I All-Star” by the Courier Post and earned the team’s MVP
Award.
Mark was an excellent infielder on the baseball team. He was
selected as a “1st Team All-Star Infielder” in his junior and senior
seasons. He was also selected “1st Team All-Group I Infielder”
on his way to earning three varsity letters.

JUSTIN NEWELL ~ ‘97
Justin graduated from Glassboro High School in 1997.
He distinguished himself in football and baseball during his high
school athletic career.
During his football career, he played for Coach Bob
Cleary as a center and defensive lineman. He also punted and
was the kicker on the team. Justin was selected as “Lineman of
the Week” and “Lineman of the Year” by the Touchdown Club
of South Jersey. He was selected “1st Team All-Gloucester
County” as an offensive lineman and “2nd Team All-Gloucester
County” as a defensive lineman. He was an “All-South Jersey
All-Star” who played in the Rotary Bowl All-Star game.
Justin earned four varsity letters while playing baseball
for Coach Neilio. He played catcher, outfield, 3rd base and pitcher. He was a versatile player who played anywhere the team
needed him.
Following high school, Justin graduated from Wesley
College in 2002 with a B.A.
in Science. Currently, Justin
is teaching 5th grade. He lives
in Glassboro with his wife,
Kristen and their two children

CHALETTE WASHINGTON GRIFFIN ~ ‘88
Chalette graduated from Glassboro High School in 1988.
She distinguished herself in cross country, winter track and
spring track during her high school athletic career.
In Cross Country, she earned four varsity letters while
competing on the boys team as the high school did not have a
girls team. She was selected “1st Team All-Gloucester County”
in her senior year. She was also “1st Team All-Group I” and
placed 11th in the South Jersey Sectional Championships.
In Indoor Track, Chalette earned four varsity letters. At
the South Jersey Championships, she placed 4th in the 3200 meter run. She placed 4th in 3200 meter run at the South Jersey
Track Coaches Association Championships and placed 5th in the
NJTCA State Championships. Her best time for the 3200 meter
run was 13:15.
In Spring Track, Chalette earned four varsity letters and
set a school record as a member of the 4 x 800 meter relay team.
As a captain, Chalette placed 3rd in the TCC 3200 meter Championship. She was “1st Team All-Gloucester County” and selected MVP as a senior.
Following high school,
Chalette attended Lincoln University where she was selected
the “Most Outstanding Athlete” in 1991 and “Most Outstanding Cross Country Runner” in 1992. Chalette was a
member of the NCAA Division
II National Championship
track team at Lincoln University.
Chalette married Cary
Griffin and currently lives in
East Point, Georgia.
RAYMOND HUBSCHMITT ~ ‘48
Ray graduated from Glassboro High School in 1948. He distinguished himself in football and baseball during his high school
athletic career.
Ray played quarterback for the Bulldogs for three years,
earning a varsity letter in each season. Coach Morton told Ray that
he wouldn’t let him start as the quarterback because he was afraid
Ray would get hurt and Coach Morton would lose the greatest pitcher ever!
In baseball, Ray was an outstanding pitcher. In 1948, he
pitched three games in four days and won them all. Coach Morton

In his first year as head coach, John Aveni led the Bulldogs to an
11-0 record. The team outscored their opponents 247 points to
93. The Bulldogs shutout four teams; Edgewood, Gateway, Pitman, and West Deptford. The coaching staff was directed by
Head Coach John Aveni and Assistants Bob Cleary, Bob Barrett,
Bob Seibold and Lou Corradetti.

Athlete: Candidate must be an alumnus of Glassboro High School and have graduated ten years prior to
nomination. Consideration will be made on athletic accomplishments while at Glassboro High School and beyond.
Coach: Candidate will be considered on the basis
of accomplishments while coaching at Glassboro High
School.
Contributor: Candidate will be considered on
the basis of contributions to the athletic department and
student athletes of Glassboro High School.
All Candidates will be considered on the basis of
character, integrity, and good sportsmanship during high
school and beyond, as well as achievements or contributions to the Glassboro High School athletic department.
