Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library SUMMER PROGRAM GUIDE May-August 2016 2016 Summer Reading Program proudly sponsored by: Children’s Programs, Series and Storytimes Children’s Storytimes Children’s Storytimes Each storytime program is full of entertaining, age-appropriate stories and activities that encourage literacy development and help your child prepare to be a skilled reader. Caregivers attend with children for all storytimes. Registration begins May 23. Book Buddy Helpers: Students in grades 6-12 are invited to team up with a younger student to help them build better reading skills through reading aloud, activities and games. Lewis, from Kang Do Won Martial Arts studio will lead us through a demonstration and discussion of her popular and powerful “Strive to Survive” class where participants will learn how to be energized. Tue Jun 14 6:30 pm Eastlake Superhero Self-Defense for Little Tykes This 20-minute class teaches younger children and their grownups about bullying and self-defense in a fun, interactive way. Presented by the Willoughby Martial Arts Academy. (Ages 3-6). Tue Jun 21 6:30 pm Eastlake Superhero Self-Defense for Older Kids This 30-minute class teaches older children about bullying and self-defense in a fun, interactive way. Thu Jul 14 6-7 pm Willoughby Hills August College Planning 101: Finding the Perfect College Fit Join Patty Saddle, President of The College Planning Center, to learn how to determine your best college fit. Topics will include researching your options, private vs. public colleges, college visits & admissions interviews, weighing standard vs. early admission and how to make your college application stand out. Parents and teens welcome. Tue Aug 30 6:30-7:30 pm Willowick Technology Classes Create a Resume with Career Cruising In this hands-on class, students will create a resume using Career Cruising. We'll also explore the other job search & employment tools available on the Career Cruising site. Wed May 11 7–8 pm Willowick Office 2013: Word for Beginners Learn how to create documents using Microsoft Word. The program will explore the basics such as editing text, inserting photos and adjusting spacing and page layout. This class is hands-on. Computers are provided. Wed Jun 8 6–7:30 pm Eastlake Technology Thursdays Join us for 4 basic computer classes including keyboarding, computer basics, Internet basics and email basics. Time will be provided for hands-on practice at each session. This class will cover apps, customizing the home screen and searching the web using Safari. Please bring your iPad, Apple ID and Apple ID password. Wed Jul 6 10–11:30 am Willoughby Office 2013: Excel for Beginners Learn how to create a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel. The program will cover how to navigate Excel and create basic formulas. Technology Classes Creating a Facebook Account Learn how to set up your own Facebook account. You must have access to either your mobile phone or your email address to complete creating your Facebook account. Thu Jul 28 10-11 am Willoughby Computer Security Basics Learn basic techniques to secure your home computer. This class will cover popular anti-virus & malware software that you can download at home. Tue Aug 2 10–11 am Eastlake Posting on Facebook We will focus on the things you can do with Facebook, including posting pictures. An active Facebook account is required!
