When you sign up for the WDM Library 2016 Summer Reading Club, write down which school you’ll be attending in the fall. We’ll keep track throughout the summer and in August we’ll see which school had the highest percentage of students participating in our program. The winning school will receive a trophy to display until next summer. Show us your school spirit and your super reading skills! Sign up starts Mon, May 23. Kids of all ages (babies too!) can participate, so enter a contest, win prizes, and complete your reading log to “score a ticket” (earn) a ticket to our carnival celebration (Saturday, July 30)! As you race to your reading finish line, make a pit stop at the library for our special events! Beat the challenges in Survivor, have a ball during Kids Learn to Quilt, and tackle Fantastic Forces with the Science Center of Iowa. Catch winning performances by Juggling Jeff, Blank Park Zoo, and more! June program registration begins Tuesday, May 31; July program registration begins Tuesday, July 5. Teens – Middle and high school students have their own Teen Summer Reading Club, Get in the Game ─ Read! Stop at the Reference Desk upstairs for more information, or check our website. Discover how air, gravity, and surface area relate to movement and flight. With demos, hands-on, and audience participation, you’ll make a real-life connection to the science of flight. Kitty is the niece of reggae legend Bunny Wailer; Jack’s baby sitter was ukulele playing eccentric Tiny Tim. Juggling Jeff Workshop Thu, Jul 21 at 1:30 pm (ages 7-12). What do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to entertain people but I didn’t know how. I had to learn, and that started with a book! Don’t run with the scissors, but do bring 5-8 photos of your athletic events, hobbies, collections, pets, or awards… anything you like, and we'll make a paper sack scrapbook. Registration required. That’s what awaits the students who win our Triwizard Tournament, but to do this, they must survive three tasks. Registration required. Sat, Jul 30 from 10 am -12 (all ages). Everyone who meets their Summer Reading Club goal will earn an invitation to our Final Party Carnival, featuring hula hoop demo, face painting, dunk tank, and more! We hope to see you there!!
