Compass
My name is Heather Catron and I am proud to serve you and our
community as President of the Ludington Area Jaycees for 2014.
My family and I moved to Ludington in August of 2012-just after
Freedom Festival was over that year, and I attended my first
Ludington Area Jaycee Meeting that same month. From the very
beginning I have been very excited to work with this organization.
For the past decade I have been a Jaycee! It started when I was
working For ABN AMRO Bank in Ann Arbor, MI. One of my coworkers invited me out to an information night regarding the
Ypsilanti Jaycees. After going and finding out more, I couldn't
understand why someone wouldn't join! This organization has
everything! Networking, community service, professional and
personal development, fundraising, social activities and events,
and family activities. The Jaycees are run by a non-profit
corporation style of board of directors that the members vote in, so
you can learn about how non-profit organizations are run and you
could also serve on the Board of Directors and get the experience
of running a corporation- all in an environment that has a safety
net in place so when we make mistakes, we are allowed to learn
and grow from them without the fear of being "fired" from some
position. Also, if you join a local chapter you are automatically a
Michigan Jaycee, a US Jaycee and a part of the Junior Chamber
International- now that is networking! Another added bonus to
being a Ludington Jaycee is that we run our own Mini Golf, so our
members also learn what it takes to run a business; hiring and
firing employees, maintaining property, paying taxes, employment
laws, etc. All of this while being part of a fun environment of
people who just want a little something more out of life than sitting
home watching TV night after night.
We have a plethora of opportunities in the Jaycees- that is why I
chose our theme for the year to be "Choose Your Own Adventure."
You choose what you want to get out of the Jaycee opportunity by
participating in the events & projects that you want to. Do you
want to learn what it takes to run the most amazing 4th of July
Celebration that thousands of people come to see? We can help
with that! Want to learn how to crochet? We can help with that! Do
you want to teach your children the importance of helping others?
We have a program for that! Want free, unlimited Mini Golf at the
beach for your family? We have that too. Do you want a group of
positive people to associate with? Welcome to the club!
We have an amazing year planned plus we have room for
more events and projects -if there is an event or project that
you would like us to run, or you would like help running,
please contact us! The way we build leaders and expand our
capabilities is through helping our community by running
events and projects! Real "on the job" experience! And it is by
participating in these projects and learning to work with others
that we also build our lifelong friendships. There is nothing
else I have found that does all of these things! I'm inviting you
to come along on our adventures, to expand your capabilities,
serve your community and develop life long friendships while
being a part of the organization of choice for 21-40 year olds
in Mason County.
Obviously I have a passion for the Jaycees & I'm not great at
talking about myself, but this article was supposed to be an
introduction- so here it goes; I am a stay at home mom, 34
weeks pregnant with my fourth child, my oldest son Lucas is
15, my daughter Katherine is 12 and they are both all A
students in advanced placement classes. They both wrestle,
Lucas plays baseball and runs Cross Country also. Katie has
an amazing voice and is a great actress who has been doing
theatre and dance since the age of 3. My daughter Diana is 1
years old and is currently teething and learning to climb up on
the table. I run a business from home that I started nearly a
decade ago producing female fighting videos. I myself am
currently a semi-retired female fighter. I have trained in Kung
Fu (yellow belt) , Brazillian Jiu Jitsu (one stripe white belt),
boxing, Muay Thai kick boxing, grappling, judo, aikido and
more. My mentor is Dan Severn and I trained with him for a
number of years. I have fought in Europe and Japan as well
as here in the United States. I currently hold three
championship belts from different professional wrestling
organizations. I run an underground female fight league and
also an all women's professional wrestling association. I am
involved with the Michigan Girls Wrestling Team, helping to
support girls with their own competitions for wrestling. My
dynamic partner is Corey Ottgen, and he has fought, trained
and taught grappling and submission fighting for the better
part of two decades, - I am a lucky girl to get to spend my life
with him.
So now that I have introduced myself- I hope you will give me
the chance to get to know you too!
I look forward to serving you and continuing our adventures
together this year!

My name is Erin Aberegg and I am the Secretary
and Co- Director of Membership for the 2014
Ludington Area Jaycees. I have an awesome
spouse and 2 wonderful little girls who are 7 and
almost 5. My family is my world and I am interested
in teaching my children that doing things in our
community just to make it a better place is one
thing that they should always strive to do. I enjoy
camping, trail riding, and disc golf. The more
activities I can involve my family in now the more
experience they will have in the future! What I hope
to accomplish this year as a member of the board
of directors is to become a more active member of
my community and hopefully encourage others to
join and build friendships and have great
experiences doing all sorts of different projects. I
really hope to help carry the Jaycees and the great
things we do to other members of this community
and inspire them to want to make a difference!

Hello!
My name is Sara Raczkowski and I was
elected Treasurer on the 2014 Board of
Directors for the Ludington Area Jaycees. I am
a mother to 4 amazing children; Ayden,
Keygan, Olivia and Cayde. I enjoy working in
the community with them. I hope to set an
example for them that helping others is the
best work of life.

Corey Ottgen
Corey is a former two time regional qualifier, multiple time freestyle
state champion & freestyle high school nationals competitor. After
High School Corey furthered his education in the grappling arts at the
Michigan Sports Camp under the tutelage of UFC hall of famer Dan
“The Beast” Severn. This is where he was first introduced to the art
of “Catch” Wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts. While training at the
Michigan Sports Camp in Coldwater, MI, Corey began teaching
classes, coaching and also exploring other training facilities to learn
everything he could about the grappling arts. After spending time in
both England and Japan, Corey really took to the submission style
wrestling and upon returning to the states he began training in
Brazilian Jiujitsu under second degree black belt Tyrone Gooden of
the Rigan Machado family. Earning the rank of purple belt, Corey has
spent the better part of the past two decades on the mats competing
until a knee injury sidelined him in the fall of 2011. Corey has since
focused more on teaching, coaching, and helping prepare grapplers
and fighters for competition. He recently relocated to Ludington, MI
from Lansing, MI where he resides with his family and is expecting
another new addition to his “Lion Pride.” He is often found hunting or
fishing.
This year Corey beame the director of the mini golf for the Ludington
Jaycee's. We have a plan to rennovate, update and bring a whole
new look to the Jaycee's mini golf. Corey has also opened up his own
small bussiness, Hook and Catch Wrestling Club focusing on the
grappling arts. Corey hopes that learning from directing the mini golf
and the rest of the awesome board of directors he can make his
bussiness successful.

Kandi Fugere
Hi! My name is Kandi Fugere and I am the Individual
Development Vice President this year for the Ludington
Area Jaycees. I am in college at University of Phoenix
online campus, working on my master’s degree in
organizational Psychology. My main goal is to get my
doctorates and be a licensed psychologist with a main
focus in PTSD and teenagers. I love kids and try to stay
very active with the youth in my community. I love the
Jaycees because our children can be involved in the
community and that allows them to grow up knowing how
important it is to help out! I also care for my mom during
each week as she is handicapped with many physical
problems. I am the president of the Ladies Traveling Pool
league and also play in 3 other pool leagues during the
year. I love pool; it is my sport of passion. I also like to be
outside in the summer months, fishing, camping, hiking
and boating. I look forward to working with the local
Jaycees to see what this year can bring for Ludington. I
hope to make this one of the best years yet and we have
amazing people to work with and an outstanding
community full of support. As the IDVP I hope to bring the
Jaycees closer and build lifelong friendships! I hope to
show the community how much we appreciate their help
and support. I also hope to learn many new ideas that I
can use in my personal life and to help others along their
path to happiness. If anyone has any ideas for personal

Jamie Spore
Hello!! My name is Jamie Lee Spore. I am the 2014 Ludington Area
Jaycees Community Development Director, as well as, the Freedom
Festival Grand Parade Chairwoman and the Fireworks Chairwoman.
I was born in Ludington in 1981 and have lived in Mason County my
entire life, except for three years that I spent in Big Rapids attending
Ferris State University. I am the eldest daughter of Russ and Dixie Spore
of Scottville. I was born with the spinal cord defect Spina Bifida, and
have been a wheelchair-using paraplegic my entire life. Being born with
Spina Bifida and using a wheelchair are definitely not aspects that I
would have chosen for myself had it been up to me, but they are aspects
of my life that I am definitely thankful for!! God definitely had and
continues to have a plan for my life. Spina Bifida does not define me as
a person, but it definitely has helped to shape me into the person that I
am today!!
I have ABSOLUTELY THE BEST family in the world, and I love to spend
as much time with them as I possibly can!! My parents will celebrate
their 34th wedding anniversary in July. My Mom, Dixie, is absolutely one
of my heroes!! She is INCREDIBLY AMAZING!!!! She is one of my best
friends, too!! I have a younger sister, Sara, who lives in Custer with her
fiancé, Matt, and their children.
I have two amazing biological nieces, Sophia, who is almost 4, and Kara,
who turned 2 in February. I also have a 13-year-old step-niece named
Madison. My nieces are my world!! I also have a Pomapoo puppy,
named Roxy, who has me completely wrapped around her little paws!! I
love my dog so much!!
I also have the MOST INCREDIBLE circle of friends that a person could
ever ask for!! My best friend, Amy, is like a sister to me, and I consider
her daughter, Tessa, to be my niece!! Amy is also expecting a little boy in
mid-July. I CAN'T WAIT!! Amy lives in Barryton, between Big Rapids and
Mt. Pleasant, so I am unable to see her and her family as much as I
would like to. I do have amazing friends, including many members of the
Ludington Area Jaycees, who I am able to spend a lot of quality time
with!! I also have several "parents" that I have adopted for myself over
the years.
I am so in love with Ludington!! I feel very blessed to live here and to be
able to call it my hometown!! The people here are so kind, generous,
and amazing!! The scenery is absolutely, incredibly beautiful!! Being
surrounded by the Ludington State Park, Stearns Park Beach, and the
Waterfront Park, I feel so blessed to live in Paradise!! I am a beach
bum, too!! I spend as much time at Ludington's Stearns Park Beach as I
possibly can!!
I love to be busy!! I love to be as involved in the community as I
possibly can-helping with Ludington Area Jaycees projects, the
Mason County Relay for Life, and the Stearns Beach Walkway
Projects, to name a few. I also absolutely love to plan events, which is
why I am so incredibly excited to be planning some of the biggest
projects associated with the Freedom Festival this year!!
In addition to planning the Freedom Festival events, I have several
goals as a member of the 2014 Ludington Area Jaycees Board of
Directors. First, I would like to really expand upon the presence that
the Ludington Area Jaycees has in Ludington and the surrounding
community. I feel that Ludington is comprised of amazing people who
work very well together to enhance the lives of the people who live
here. I love to see the community come together to improve the lives
of local residents!! I am very excited for the Ludington Area Jaycees
to be involved in the Helping a Hero Project to help United States
Military Veteran Eric Lund re-establish himself in the Ludington
community. As a member of the Ludington Area Jaycees Board of
Directors, I am also looking forward to representing the Jaycees with
the Freedom Festival and helping to promote the Ludington Area
Jaycees as the driving force behind the Ludington Freedom Festival.
There are a couple of very exciting Community Development Projects,
sponsored by the Ludington Area Jaycees, coming up in April!! I hope
that you will join me!! Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be held at
Grace Episcopal Church on April 19th, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
Pancakes will be available for $1 each. Children may also participate
in a coloring contest and have their pictures taken with the Easter
Bunny. Grace Episcopal Church is located at 301 North James Street
in Ludington.
Also on April 19th, beginning at 2 p.m., an Easter Egg Hunt will be
held at the Ludington Area Jaycees Mini Golf Course at Stearns
Beach, located at 900 West Ludington Avenue in Ludington. Children
16 years-old and under are invited to participate.

LUDINGTON JAYCEES MINI
GOLF UPDATE: Plans are in the works to
do a full renovation of our course this spring- we hope
to have it all done before our 2014 Opening Weekend,
May 24th- but we will need a lot of help to accomplish
this! Preliminary Designs of our new course are getting
to us now- then we need to secure funding and help to
get this project done in the next month! Stay Tuned. . . .

DIY Homemade Laundry Soap
1 cup Arm & Hammer super washing soda
1 cup Borax
1 bar of Fels Naptha or Zoat (in the laundry aisle)
½ -1 cup oxy clean powder (or dollar store equivalent)
Use a cheese grater or a food processor to shred the
bar soap, mix
It with the other ingredients and then it only takes
2tbsp per load
Safe for High Efficiency washer
Safe for sensitive skin
each batch will last for 2-3 months
