It schedules a departure around 2pm and a return around 5pm. Assuming about 30 minutes of transit time each way, that’s a solid two hour break to take naps, swim, rest, cool off, or whatever it is you wish to do. If you have a car, those transit times could be considerably less or you may need to plan for more time if you’re coming from far away or bus service at your resort isn’t very good. You can also schedule a shorter or longer break if you so choose. The easiest way to elongate it would be to skip the 5:45pm Beauty and the Beast Stage Show and arrive later in the evening. As it stands, we’ll want to arrive back by 5:15pm so that we can get good seats to Beauty and the Beast Stage Show. Variable Fantasmic Times and Changing the Touring Plan to Fit Your Needs The difficulty with making a Hollywood Studios Touring Plan that includes Fantasmic is the fact that Fantasmic begins at different times throughout the year. In January, the first Fantasmic may begin at 6:30pm. In June, the first Fantasmic doesn’t begin until 9pm. If you’re not using the Fantasmic Dining Package, we want to enter the Fantasmic Theater between 45 and 60 minutes early for the second show of the evening (if a second show is available). Fantasmic is usually scheduled twice on nights that feature a Fantasmic and the second show is less crowded. This is because the Fantasmic Dining Package’s reserved seating section is only valid on the first show and because many people plan to see the first show and leave afterward. This Touring Plan assumes you finish the attractions at 8pm and then head to the Fantasmic theater for a 9pm Fantasmic. If Fantasmic begins at 8pm, you’ll need to cut about an hour out of your day and head over to the Fantasmic theater around 7pm. You can do this by bringing dinner with you to the theater, which would cut out most of the hour that’s budgeted for dinner on the plan. You could also skip one or two of the lengthier stage shows and visit one of the rides earlier in the day instead. I would recommend skipping Beauty and the Beast Stage Show and go to the Great Movie Ride after you arrive back at 5pm. 9am to 8pm Without Fantasmic This plan also works well if the Hollywood Studios is open from 9am to 8pm rather than 9am to 7pm and doesn’t have Fantasmic scheduled. That extra hour is more beneficial than you might think because it allows us to schedule more stage shows in the afternoon and put off the Great Movie Ride and Beauty and the Beast Stage Show for later in the day. Because Hollywood Studios is at its busiest when Fantasmic is scheduled in the evening, due to the limited number of shows available most weeks, I never recommend going to the Hollywood Studios when it has Fantasmic if you don’t also plan to see the show. You’re actually better off going on a day with morning or evening Extra Magic Hours because crowds will be smaller. Of course, the best days are those in between two Fantasmic shows or Extra Magic Hours. Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users In Order: 1 and 2. Head directly to Toy Story Mania in Pixar Place. If the line is 30 minutes or less, go directly to the standby line and ride. Obtain a FASTPASS on your way out for a ride later in the day. If the wait is longer than 30 minutes, you don’t want to wait at all, or you only want to ride once, grab a FASTPASS without riding first and continue to step two. 3. Walk underneath the archway to the Streets of America and get in line for the Backlot Tour. The first tram usually leaves around 9:35am, so you have some time to get here after Toy Story Mania, even if you’re running a bit behind schedule. 4. Walk back toward Toy Story Mania and continue walking through Animation Courtyard to the 10:30am Playhouse Disney (soon to be Disney Jr,) Live on Stage show. This isn’t a popular time to see the show so you should be able to cut it close and still get a good spot to sit. 5. Exit and walk back up to nearby Voyage of the Little Mermaid, also in Animation Courtyard. 6. Walk out to Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat at the end of Hollywood Boulevard for the 11:30am Disney Channel Rocks show. Because there is no formal queue and the stage is elevated, you should have no problem walking right up as the show begins. 7. Have lunch. I recommend Starring Rolls Café on Sunset Boulevard or Toy Story Planet in the Streets of America. Since we’re walking to Indiana Jones next, Pizza Planet is close, even though it will be a little bit of a walk from Hollywood Boulevard. 8. Watch the 12:45pm Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in the Backlot area. 9. Walk up the Streets of America to see Muppet Vision 3D. There is also a 1:30pm Jedi Training Academy Show that is nearby, outside of Star Tours. If this is of particular interest, you may want to watch some or all of it before going to Muppet Vision 3D. You can either go to Muppet Vision 3D after or return to it after your break. 10. Have a pleasant break. We’re planning to return by 5:15pm. 11. Re-enter the Park and walk up Sunset Boulevard for the 5:45pm Beauty and the Beast Stage Show. The entrance is before Tower of Terror. 12. Have dinner. I recommend nearby Starring Rolls Café or Sunset Ranch Market and Fairfax Fare in particular. Depending on when Fantasmic begins, you may have time for a sit-down dinner. I recommend 50’s Prime Time Café and Mama Melrose Ristorante Italiano. 13. Walk to the end of Hollywood Boulevard. It’s finally time for the Great Movie Ride. Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users 14. If you haven’t already, walk back to Toy Story Mania to use your FASTPASS from the beginning of the day. Don’t worry about it being after the return time, they will let you use the FASTPASS as long as it’s from the same day. 15. If you have extra time, consider walking through the Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream exhibit or do the Magic of Disney Animation if it’s available. If it’s about 60 minutes before Fantasmic starts, we’ll want to make our way over to the theater now. The entrance to Fantasmic is on Sunset Boulevard, right before the entrance to Tower of Terror. The best seats are in the middle section, about half way back, but there are really no bad seats because the stage is so large and action occurs around the entire stage. I would actually recommend sitting up higher in the stands rather than lower down because people in the front do get wet and it’s more difficult to see what’s going on in the water surrounding the stage. Skipped Attractions and How to Work Them In Journey into Narnia: Prince Caspian – This attraction is right next door to Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream. There is rarely a line longer than 10 minutes and you’re welcome to replace another attraction with it if you’re particularly interested in the Chronicles of Narnia. Keep in mind that this is little more than an advertisement for Prince Caspian on Blu-ray and Disney lost the rights to distribute subsequent Narnia movies. Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show: We’re watching Indiana Jones in place of Lights, Motors, Action! If you would rather see Lights, Motors, see it at 1:20pm in place of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Jedi Training Academy: There are multiple shows scheduled throughout the day. The stage is located outside of Star Tours and you should be able to replace another ride or attraction during the day to fit this one in. You can also go to the 2:20pm show and leave later in the day. Magic of Disney Animation – This is an interesting guided tour, but it may seem boring to the younger set. If your child is interested in animation or drawing, I would recommend fitting it in in place of one of the stage shows that sounds less appealing or near the end of the day. The best part of the exhibit is at the end, when there is an optional drawing tutorial where you will learn to draw your own Disney character. It’s also in Animation Courtyard, near Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream: Also in Animation Courtyard, this attraction can be subbed in at any time. Since it’s “on your own time,” you can spend as little or as much time as you like. There is also an optional 15-minute film that plays in an attached theater. Mulch, Sweat, and Shears Bandscaping: This is a fun band to watch, but not necessarily worth going out of your way to see. They play along the Streets of America and you may see them as Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users you’re walking to a nearby attraction. If you do and you have some time, stay and watch for a few minutes. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (must be 40” or taller to ride) and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster (must be 48” or taller to ride): This plan visits shows and attractions aimed at the younger set and thus skips the two major thrill rides at Hollywood Studios. If members of the group want to ride these two rides, I recommend obtaining FASTPASSes for them throughout the day. Those planning to ride can use the FASTPASSes while the rest of the group watches Playhouse Disney/Disney Jr. Live on Stage or Beauty and the Beast. Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure: Feel free to visit if your kids need a place to run around for a while. Keep in mind that it has a small capacity and it gets extremely hot when the weather is warm. Schedule it as early in the morning as possible. There isn’t anything here to interest anyone over the age of nine, but it is fun for kids who want to play. American Idol Experience: This is another lengthy show that is offered on a set schedule. Replace another stage show or attraction with it if it sounds better. 3PM Parade: We’re skipping the Parade so that we can take an extended break. You could also opt to watch the Parade and push back your break if you wish. Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users
