Hollywood Studios Touring Plan for Disney Adults – Highlights with an Afternoon Break –
Plan A - With Fantasmic or Without
This plan is ideal for groups of Disney adults (those age ten and older) who want to visit
Hollywood Studios in the morning and evening and also take some time off in the afternoon to
rest, swim, or do whatever else your heart desires. It visits all of the Studios’ best attractions,
including Toy Story Mania, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, and Tower of Terror. You’ll also see
Muppet Vision 3D, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast Stage Show, Great
Movie Ride, Backlot Tour, and a host of others. Because we’ll be taking a break in the midafternoon, we do skip the 3pm Parade because we won’t be in the Studios at that time. If you do
want to see the 3pm Parade, you can push your break back to 3:30pm and move up some of the
evening attractions (Great Movie Ride, Magic of Disney Animation) to the afternoon. As it
stands, the Touring Plan schedules a break around 2:30pm and expects you to arrive back by
5:30pm. Assuming about 30 minutes of transit time each way, that’s a solid two hours to rest,
cool off, and get ready to re-enter the fray. You can also elongate your break by skipping
Muppet Vision 3D and/or Magic of Disney Animation or substituting them for other attractions
earlier in the day. You can also visit Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at 12:45pm instead of
Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at 1:20pm, which would allow you to leave about
30 minutes earlier. This Plan assumes that the Fantasmic you will be attending begins at 9pm. If
Fantasmic isn’t scheduled until 10pm or later, you’ll have time to take a longer break or you’ll
have time to visit additional attractions upon your return. See section below for information
about what to do if Fantasmic is earlier in the evening
Plan A Vs. Plan B
Plan A allows us to do the most attractions in the shortest amount of time by using FASTPASS
at Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster. It also doesn’t require us to
follow the crowds to Sunset Boulevard in the morning and minimizes the amount of walking
necessary to get from attraction to attraction. On the downside, we may not have an opportunity
to ride the headlining rides until we return in the evening, though your FASTPASSes may be
ready to use in the afternoon. You may be limited to one ride on Tower of Terror and Rock ‘N’
Roller Coaster as well, depending on how many FASTPASSes you are able to collect throughout
the day. While the Touring Plan explicitly only tells you to pick up one set of FASTPASSes for
the headliners, you’re welcome to pick up as many as possible throughout the day. My
recommendation would be to send one person with the group’s tickets to the FASTPASS
machines to get FASTPASSes for everyone. This way, only one person potentially has to walk
across the Park. Also keep in mind that you can obtain FASTPASSes with people’s tickets, even
if they don’t intend to ride. For example, if you have four people in your group and only two
want to ride Tower of Terror, you can still use all four tickets to get FASTPASSes. The people
that want to ride Tower of Terror can then use all four FASTPASSes to ride twice.
FASTPASSes can be used back to back, but you will have to exit the ride to use each
FASTPASS. It still beats waiting in the standby line at any time during the day. Finally,
Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users
FASTPASSes can be used after the stated time, as long as they are from the same day. For
example, if your FASTPASS return time is 1:30pm to 2:30pm on December 1st, you can return at
any time after 1:30pm on December 1st and use the FASTPASS, even if that time is after
2:30pm.
Like with the Standard One Day Plans, Plan B focuses on riding Hollywood Studios’ most
popular attractions in the morning and then again with FASTPASS in the afternoon or evening.
This is ideal if you want to ride the thrill rides and Toy Story Mania at least twice. On the other
hand, it does take extra time to do this and we may not be able to fit in some of the other
attractions, like Magic of Disney Animation and Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream. There is also
a lot of walking involved because we need to move to Sunset Boulevard immediately after Toy
Story Mania in the morning and then walk up to the Streets of America for the Backlot Tour later
in the morning. On the plus side, we get to ride the Studios’ best attractions first thing in the
morning and again later in the evening with the shortest waits possible.
Variable Fantasmic Times and Changing the Touring Plan to Fit Your Needs
The difficulty with making a Hollywood Studios Touring Plan that includes Fantasmic is the fact
that Fantasmic begins at different times throughout the year. In January, the first Fantasmic may
begin at 6:30pm. In June, the first Fantasmic doesn’t begin until 9pm. If you’re not using the
Fantasmic Dining Package, you want to enter the Fantasmic Theater between 45 and 60 minutes
early for the second show of the evening (if a second show is available). Fantasmic is usually
scheduled twice on nights that feature a Fantasmic and the second show is less crowded. This is
because the Fantasmic Dining Package’s reserved seating section is only valid on the first show
and because many people plan to see the first show and leave afterward. This Touring Plan
assumes you finish the attractions by 8pm and then head to the Fantasmic theater for a 9pm
Fantasmic. If Fantasmic begins at 8pm, you’ll need to cut about an hour out of your day and
head over to the Fantasmic theater around 7pm. You can do this by bringing dinner with you to
the theater, which would cut out most of the hour that’s budgeted for dinner on the Plan. You
could also skip one or two of the lengthier stage shows and visit one of the rides earlier in the
day instead. I would recommend riding Great Movie Ride in place of Beauty and the Beast
Stage Show and skipping Magic of Disney Animation. That would save you about an hour
during the day, allowing you to do everything else on the itinerary and make an 8pm Fantasmic.
9am to 8pm Without Fantasmic
This plan also works well if the Hollywood Studios is open from 9am to 8pm or 9pm rather than
9am to 7pm and doesn’t have Fantasmic scheduled. That extra hour is more beneficial than you
might think because it allows us to schedule a lengthy afternoon break without missing many
attractions. Because Hollywood Studios is at its busiest when Fantasmic is scheduled in the
evening, due to the limited number of shows available most weeks, I never recommend going to
the Hollywood Studios when it has Fantasmic if you don’t also plan to see the show. You’re

actually better off going on a day with morning or evening Extra Magic Hours because crowds
will be smaller. Of course, the best days are those in between two Fantasmic shows or Extra
Magic Hours.
In order:
1 and 2. Head directly to Toy Story Mania in Pixar Place. If the line is 30 minutes or less, go
directly to the standby line and ride and then get a FASTPASS on your way out. If the wait is
longer than 30 minutes, you don’t want to wait at all, or you only want to ride once, grab a
FASTPASS without riding and continue to step three.
3. Walk underneath the archway to the Streets of America and get in line for the Backlot Tour.
The first tram usually leaves around 9:35am, so you have some time to get here after Toy Story
Mania, even if you’re running a bit behind schedule or end up waiting 25 minutes at Toy Story
Mania to ride standby.
4. Double back to where you came from to Pixar Place and walk past Toy Story Mania on your
way to Animation Courtyard for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
5. If you have time, check out Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream. This is an “on your own time”
exhibit and you can spend as little or as much time as you want. If you would like to see the 15
minute film that accompanies the attraction, you may need to return later. We want to be on our
way to get Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster FASTPASSes by 11:05am.
6. This is the ideal time to use the “FASTPASS runner.” This is someone who will gather
everyone’s tickets and go to the FASTPASS machine to get FASTPASSes for the entire group.
Have everyone walk to the Beauty and the Beast Stage Show entrance on Sunset Boulevard and
send the runner to get FASTPASSes for Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, which is just about two
minutes away. The runner can easily meet the group inside the theater. Alternatively, you can
all go to get FASTPASSes together. There are bathrooms located nearby as well.
7. See the 11:30am Beauty and the Beast Stage Show. The entrance is on Sunset Boulevard,
before Tower of Terror. Alternatively, you can easily substitute the 11:30am Indiana Jones Epic
Stunt Spectacular if you would prefer.
8. Have lunch. I recommend nearby Starring Rolls Café. Sunset Ranch Market is also nearby
and offers a large variety of options. Because we’re headed up to Lights, Motors, Action!
Extreme Stunt Show next, you can also have lunch pretty much anywhere else and it will be on
the way. I also recommend Toy Story Pizza Planet in the Streets of America, across from
Muppet Vision 3D.
9. If you’re in the area, get FASTPASSes for Tower of Terror. If you’re not, you can obtain
them on your way out of the Studios for your break.

10. Walk up the Streets of America for the 1:20pm Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt
Show. It’s a good ten minutes away from Sunset Boulevard, so be sure to give yourself some
time to get to it. Looking at the stadium seating, sit on the left side (the right side if you’re
sitting and looking at the stage) to exit the theater before the majority of the other people in the
stands. We’ll want to arrive by 1:10pm unless the Studios is extremely busy, in which case
you’ll want to arrive by 1pm. There is usually plenty of room.
11. Exit and walk back down the Streets of America to Muppet Vision 3D.
12. It should be about 2:30pm, which means it’s time for our break. Get Tower of Terror
FASTPASSes if you haven’t already or grab another set of FASTPASSes for either Rock ‘N’
Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror if you would like to ride either a second (or third) time. We’ll
want to arrive back around 5:30pm, unless Fantasmic isn’t until after 9pm or you have another
way to make up time. We have between 90 and 120 minutes worth of stuff to do once we return.
Plan accordingly.
13. Re-enter Hollywood Studios and head straight up Hollywood Boulevard until you come to
the Sunset Boulevard intersection. Walk down Sunset Boulevard and ride Rock ‘N’ Roller
Coaster with the FASTPASSes collected earlier.
14. Exit and head back to ride Tower of Terror with the FASTPASSes collected earlier.
15. Walk back to Hollywood Boulevard and up through Animation Courtyard to Pixar Place.
Ride Toy Story Mania with FASTPASS.
16. Walk back down through Animation Courtyard toward Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat at the end of
Hollywood Boulevard. It’s finally time for the Great Movie Ride. The entrance is behind the
Sorcerer’s Hat.
17. Have dinner. You may have time for a relaxing sit-down meal, depending on when
Fantasmic begins. Remember, we want to take our seats at least 45 minutes before Fantasmic
begins and maybe even earlier, depending on how busy the Studios is in the evening. If the wait
is 45+ minutes at Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster and 30+ minutes at Tower of Terror then we want to
arrive 60 or more minutes early. For sit-down meals, I recommend 50’s Prime Time Café and
Mama Melrose Ristorante. For counter service, check to see if Toy Story Pizza Planet or
Starring Rolls Café is open. If not, you may be stuck with ABC Commissary, Backlot Express,
or the food served in the Fantasmic theater.
18. If you have time, do the Magic of Disney Animation, located in Animation Courtyard or
return to an attraction you either enjoyed or missed earlier in the day.
19. If it’s about 60 minutes before Fantasmic starts, we’ll want to make our way over to the
theater now. The entrance to Fantasmic is on Sunset Boulevard, right before the entrance to
Tower of Terror. The best seats are in the middle section, about half way back, but there are
Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users
really no bad seats because the stage is so large and action occurs around the entire stage. I
would actually recommend sitting up higher in the stands rather than lower down because people
in the front do get wet and it’s more difficult to see what’s going on in the water surrounding the
stage.
Skipped Attractions and How to Fit Them In:
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular: You can substitute this show at 11:30am for Beauty and
the Beast Stage Show or at 12:45pm for Lights, Motors, Action! if you would prefer. You can
also return from your break earlier and see the 5:30pm
Disney Channel Rocks: This stage show is scheduled throughout the day near Mickey’s
Sorcerer’s Hat. It’s geared towards entertaining kids and we don’t necessarily want to go out of
our way to see it. Since we’ll be passing Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat throughout the day, chances
are good a show will be going on at some point and you can catch a few minutes of it.
3PM Parade: We’re taking our break from 2:30pm to 5pm, which means we won’t be in the
Studios during the Parade. You can push back your break until 3:30pm and visit Great Movie
Ride and Magic of Disney Animation in the afternoon if you would like to stay for the Parade
and then return later in the evening. If Fantasmic doesn’t begin until 10pm, you can also push
your break back by an hour and still have time to complete the entire itinerary.
Journey into Narnia: Prince Caspian: This attraction is right next door to Walt Disney: One
Man’s Dream. There is rarely a line longer than 10 minutes and you’re welcome to replace
another attraction with it if you’re particularly interested in the Chronicles of Narnia. Keep in
mind that this is little more than an advertisement for Prince Caspian on Blu-ray and Disney lost
the rights to distribute subsequent Narnia movies.
Mulch, Sweat, and Shears Bandscaping: This is a fun band to watch, but not necessarily worth
going out of your way to see. They play along the Streets of America and you may see them as
you’re walking to a nearby attraction. If you do and you have some time, stay and watch for a
few minutes.
Playhouse Disney (Soon to Be Disney Jr.) Live on Stage: This is a stage show that is fun for
young kids, but doesn’t have a lot to offer adults. There are no seats and participants are
expected to sit on the floor until the singing and dancing starts. I don’t recommend it for anyone
over the age of seven or eight, but there are multiple shows scheduled throughout the day and
you should have no trouble substituting it for an attraction that doesn’t appeal to your group.
Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure: This is a playground area for kids. It doesn’t
offer anything for anyone over the age of eight or nine. The Movie Set Adventure is often
confused for the Honey I Shrunk the Audience 3D show (formerly) at Epcot.

Jedi Training Academy: This show’s stage is located outside of Star Tours and you may be able
to nonchalantly catch a few minutes of it after Indiana Jones or while you’re milling about the
Streets of America or Echo Lake areas. There are multiple shows scheduled throughout the day
and you should be able to fit it in if you really want to see it. It’s a lot of fun for kids and parents
of kids that are participating, but it’s little more than “very cute” for teens and adults. If you
enjoy Star Wars and cute stage shows then you may want to fit this one in. Otherwise, you’re
safe skipping it.
American Idol Experience: The 6:30pm Finale is the best show because it features the best
singers from throughout the day. Prior shows are generally entertaining, but the experience
varies greatly depending on the enthusiasm of the crowd and the talent of the performers. If you
have extra time or expressly don’t want to visit one of the other stage shows, I would recommend
American Idol Experience. It’s also a great way to get out of the heat, rain, or cold. Generally,
you can arrive about ten minutes before a show begins and have no problem getting a seat. For
the Finale, you probably want to arrive 20 minutes early to be on the safe side of things.
