Hollywood Studios With Young Children – 9am to 9pm With Fantasmic or 9am to 8pm
Without
This is an ambitious touring plan that assumes you arrive at Hollywood Studios before 9am and
stay through the day until Fantasmic concludes (or 8pm without Fantasmic). The good news is
that much of the day will be spent at seated shows and walking will be kept to a minimum, but
twelve hours of stimulation is more than a lot of young kids can handle. You may want to check
out the touring plan that includes a lengthy afternoon break. Of course, you can always begin
with this plan and change things as the day progresses. If you do end up taking a break, I would
recommend leaving after the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show and returning for the
Playhouse Disney Live on Stage show at 5pm or 5:50pm. You could also leave after the 3pm
Parade and return in time for a quick dinner and Fantasmic. There really are limitless changes
that could be made and it isn’t too difficult to rearrange your day based on what you want to do
and when you would like to leave. As it stands, this itinerary goes to almost all of the Studios’
attractions and has time to fit in the ones that are skipped if you walk quickly or eat fast.
Variable Fantasmic Times and Changing the Touring Plan to Fit Your Needs
The difficulty with making a Hollywood Studios Touring Plan that includes Fantasmic is the fact
that Fantasmic begins at different times throughout the year. In January, the first Fantasmic may
begin at 6:30pm. In June, the first Fantasmic doesn’t begin until 9pm. If you’re not using the
Fantasmic Dining Package, we want to enter the Fantasmic Theater between 45 and 60 minutes
early for the second show of the evening (if a second show is available). Fantasmic is usually
scheduled twice on nights that feature a Fantasmic and the second show is less crowded. This is
because the Fantasmic Dining Package’s reserved seating section is only valid on the first show
and because many people plan to see the first show and leave afterward. This Touring Plan
assumes you finish the attractions at 8pm and then head to the Fantasmic theater for a 9pm
Fantasmic. If Fantasmic begins at 8pm, you’ll need to cut about an hour out of your day and
head over to the Fantasmic theater around 7pm. You can do this by bringing dinner with you to
the theater, which would cut out most of the hour that’s budgeted for dinner on the plan. You
could also skip one or two of the lengthier stage shows and visit one of the rides earlier in the
day instead. I would recommend skipping Lights, Motors, Action at 1:20pm and instead go to
the Great Movie Ride and Voyage of the Little Mermaid between 1pm and 2pm. That cuts out
the 60 or so minutes it takes to walk over to Lights, Motors, Action, wait for it to begin, and then
walk all the way back to Jedi Training Academy for the 2:20pm show.
9am to 8pm Without Fantasmic
This plan also works well if the Hollywood Studios is open from 9am to 8pm rather than 9am to
7pm and doesn’t have Fantasmic scheduled. That extra hour is more beneficial than you might
think because it allows us to schedule more stage shows in the afternoon and put off the Great
Movie Ride and Voyage of the Little Mermaid for later in the day. Because Hollywood Studios
Created exclusively for easyWDW.com users
is at its busiest when Fantasmic is scheduled in the evening, due to the limited number of shows
available most weeks, I never recommend going to the Hollywood Studios when it has
Fantasmic if you don’t also plan to see the show. You’re actually better off going on a day with
morning or evening Extra Magic Hours because crowds will be smaller. Of course, the best days
are those in between two Fantasmic shows or Extra Magic Hours.
In Order:
1 and 2. Head directly to Toy Story Mania in Pixar Place. If the line is 30 minutes or less, go
directly to the standby line and ride. If the wait is longer than 30 minutes, you don’t want to wait
at all, or you only want to ride once, grab a FASTPASS and continue to step two.
3. Walk underneath the archway to the Streets of America and get in line for the Backlot Tour.
The first tram usually leaves around 9:35am, so you have some time to get here after Toy Story
Mania, even if you’re running a bit behind schedule.
4. Exit and continue down the Streets of America to Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set
Adventure if you have kids that would enjoy running around a playground for a bit. We want to
be in line for Muppet Vision 3D by 10:40am, so skip this if you’re running behind or the line is
already long. You’re not necessarily missing much, but it is a good opportunity for kids to let off
some steam in between lengthy sit-down attractions.
5. Head over to Muppet Vision 3D and enter the line by 10:40am. Watch.
6. Continue walking down to the Backlot Area for the 11:30am Indiana Jones Epic Stunt
Spectacular.
7. Have lunch. I recommend nearby Toy Story Pizza Planet. Backlot Express and Studio
Catering Company are also nearby if you’re not in the mood for pizza.
8. Walk back up the Streets of America to the 1:20pm Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt
Show. It’s a good ten minute walk, so try to be on your way by 12:50pm. Looking at the
stadium seating, sit on the left side (the right side if you’re sitting and looking at the stage) to exit
the theater before the majority of the other people in the stands.
9. Walk back down near Star Tours for the 2:20pm Jedi Training Academy show.
10. Watch the 3pm Parade. I recommend getting a spot along the Parade route in the Backlot
area, near the entrance to Sounds Dangerous and American Idol Experience. You should have
some time both before and after the Parade to use the bathroom or get some snacks.
11. Head to Sunset Boulevard for the 4pm Beauty and the Beast Stage Show. This is a popular
show and a popular time to see it, so arrive as early as possible to guarantee good seats. The
Parade should pass through the Backlot area by 3:30pm, so you should have plenty of time to get
good seats for Beauty and the Beast.

12. Disney Channel Rocks starts at 4:35pm near Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat. Because the stage
is elevated and there’s no formal queue, you should be able to walk right up as it begins and be
able to see the show fine.
13. Walk back through Animation Courtyard to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
14. Continue down Animation Courtyard and see the 5:50pm Playhouse Disney (soon to be
Disney Jr.) Live on Stage show.
Don’t forget about that Toy Story Mania FASTPASS. Now or after dinner is a good time to
use it.
15. Have dinner. I recommend nearby Starring Rolls Café. For a sit-down meal, I recommend
50’s Prime Time Café and Mama Melrose Ristorante Italiano. Depending on when Fantasmic
starts, you may have some time for a nice relaxing sit-down meal. We want to be done with
dinner about 100 minutes before Fantasmic starts so that we have plenty of time for Great Movie
Ride. Unfortunately, Disney has a knack for closing the Hollywood Studios’ counter services
down well before the rest of the Park closes. It’s possible ABC Commissary will be the only
counter service that is open. Luckily, it’s well air-conditioned and has plenty of seating.
16. Walk to the end of Hollywood Boulevard for the Great Movie Ride.
17. If you have extra time, consider walking through the Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream
exhibit or do the Magic of Disney Animation if it’s available. If it’s about 60 minutes before
Fantasmic starts, we’ll want to make our way over to the theater now. The entrance to
Fantasmic is on Sunset Boulevard, right before the entrance to Tower of Terror. The best seats
are in the middle section, about half way back, but there are really no bad seats because the stage
is so large and action occurs around the entire stage. I would actually recommend sitting up
higher in the stands rather than lower down because people in the front do get wet and it’s more
difficult to see what’s going on in the water surrounding the stage.
18. If Hollywood Studios remains open after Fantasmic is over (i.e. Fantasmic is at 9pm and
Hollywood Studios is open until 10pm), you may want to head back to it Toy Story Mania to
enter the standby line right before Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close. Disney will allow
you get in line for a ride and ride it right up until Park closing, even if it’s clear that you will exit
the attraction long after the Park closes. They will not ask you to leave a standby line unless
there is a significant problem with the ride and it must close. In other words, even if the Studios
closes at 10pm and the wait at Toy Story Mania is listed as 60 minutes, you may enter the line at
9:50pm and ride. It’s common for wait times to be inflated at the end of the night to persuade
people from entering the queue. Make sure you check on the actual length of the line and take
into consideration it will likely take less time than stated. If you get antsy, you can always leave.
Don’t worry about Disney offering transportation after you get off the ride either. They run

buses for at least 90 minutes after the Park is scheduled to close to accommodate those with late
dining reservations.
