DOBBÉ Cognac: a family history
DOBBÉ Cognac: a family history
T
he Dobbé family has been producing exceptional cognacs in
Salignac-sur-Charente in France, for eight generations. The family’s vineyard estate extends mainly over the Petite Champagne
area, one of the largest and most prestigious cru in Charente.
Eight generations, one passion for cognac
It all started around 1787, when the family’s ancestors acquired a few
acres of vines. Then, gradually, harvest after harvest, each vineyard began to produce its first cognacs. There have been eight successive generations of passionate wine growers and distillers on this challenging
land, passing down from father to son and from mother to daughter their authentic Savoir-faire in producing prestigious eaux-de-vie.
The house of DOBBÉ is recognised for its strong values and guided
by generations who love the land. Michel Dobbé and his wife, a
descendant of the founder, have managed to combine tradition
and modernity to produce charming, high-quality DOBBÉ cognacs. Today, the new generation continues the family heritage.
A family estate in Petite Champagne
The Dobbé family’s vineyard estate covers 35 hectares, two thirds of
which are located on the sun-drenched hills of Petite Champagne,
the second largest cru in the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) which produces exceptionally smooth eaux-de-vie. The remaining third is located in Dompierre in Fins bois, on the banks of the
Charente. This is a bountiful area which produces full-bodied,
supple eaux-de-vie whose bouquet is reminiscent of pressed grapes.
With its characteristic chalky soils, the Prunelas estate in Salignac-sur-Charente, a few kilometres from Cognac, is mainly planted with the ugni
blanc grape variety, which produces fruity, fine and delicate cognacs.

The house of DOBBÉ: traditional expertise
L
ocated in Salignac-sur-Charente near Cognac, the Dobbé
family estate includes a vineyard, a distillery and ageing
cellars where the large stock of exceptional cognacs, built up
over the generations, is left to mature. The house of DOBBÉ
manages every stages of the cognac production process, from
working the vines to marketing.
All DOBBÉ cognacs are aged in Limousin oak barrels, in
accordance with AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée)
rules. Over the years, the alchemy between the eau-de-vie
and the wood produces powerful aromas, a unique amber
colour and this famous flavour of cognac aged in oak barrels.
A family company in touch with its clients
This cognac is produced entirely on the estate
For several years now, the estate’s vineyards have been managed with the greatest care, in accordance with the latest
environmental and phytosanitary standards and with the
greatest respect for nature. The best grapes are then selected
to be pressed. After a natural fermentation phase, the wine
is double-distilled on light lees in two 25-hectolitre Charente
stills.
This unique process, carried out with the greatest respect for
tradition, guarantees the exceptional quality of our eaux-devie. Then, with the utmost care, the cellar master, who is a
member of the Dobbé family, selects and assembles the eauxde-vie to produce prestigious cognacs, which are then aged
and bottled on the estate.
The house of DOBBÉ produces and markets its own rare
cognacs, which have been produced exclusively by the family
for eight generations. It strives for excellence, whilst still
respecting ancestral traditions and «French chic», and supported by its high-end positioning.
The family business is in touch with its clients and with the
latest international trends, allowing it to meet the expectations of all its consumers. DOBBÉ Cognac is responsive,
dynamic and flexible and adapts its products to your requirements. Its cognacs are exported around the world.
