The 3R's are at the heart of the ‘Go Green’ global movement. All of us, whether a public organization, private enterprise or individuals in our own homes, need to manage resources more sustainably. The world’s resources are not infinite, and it is widely recognized that all of our activities today are contributing to climate change. It is scary to note that people in 2050 will only have 25% of the resources per capita that people in 1950 had. Therefore, the only way we can support future populations is by using our resources more efficiently. Thinking green means being aware of our interconnectedness with the world and reflecting on the unintended damage we cause nature in the daily course of our lives. Thinking green leads to acting green - taking corrective action to make environmental responsibility a reality. On 21st August 2015, as a part of 1stUOI, students of grade 4A & B decided to do different activities in their classes, in order to be a part of this Global Movement- Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. Take a look at the pictures and reflections to see the little ones contributing towards a big cause. 11 Month 2015-16 PYP Students of grade 4A learned to make paper bags as a part of UOI and focused on ‘Reusing’ paper bags. I enjoyed this activity a lot. I learned to reduce, reuse and recycle. I told my neighbors and friends, when they come over to my place, I will teach them to make paper bags. My mom took one of the paper bags I made and uses it to shop light items. - KeyanaMarfatia 4A I had a lot of fun doing this activity. We learned to reuse things. Instead of using, plastic bags, we learned to use paper bags. So we did this activity to use these paper bags to Reuse newspapers. - AalishaUjagare 4A 12 Month 2015-16 PYP Students involved in class activity – 4B Students learned -Working together, Gathering information, organizing work, brainstorming as a team, and taking charge of our own learning...This is part of what we did while engaged in our project making. - Ms.Anushree and Ms.Mercedes Ms.Bhanumathi and Ms.Dinaz (Homeroom teachers- Grade 4A & B) 13 Month 2015-16 REAL RAKSHA BHANDHAN AT RCITY MALL MYP 14 Month 2015-16 REAL RAKSHA BHANDHAN AT RCITY MALL MYP On 28 Aug 2015, happiness, joy and laughter filled the floors of R CITY MALL when we students from Grades 7 and 8 went to design our own RAKHIS for students from Tarang School. This was marked as a part of our SERVICE AS ACTION ACTIVITY. We made small groups and started with our RAKHI making! The glow we saw on all the faces, especially of those students is a memorable one! While we were making the RAKHIS one young man entertained us by his fantastic dance! Once, we all had tied our RAKHIS, we were served with pizzas and doughnuts to wash them down with juice! A wonderful and learning experience for all of us and feel proud of being a part of this activity! We look forward to meet those students once again to share what we have. On this special day, we understood the exact meaning of what it is to be CARING and OPENMINDED! Thank you teachers for this wonderful experience! We welcome to socialize like this! -DARSHIL VIRA DHRUV CHABRIA DHRUV DAVE HOSHIE VIKAMSEY Grade 7 -NISHTHA DAS Grade 8 15 Month 2015-16 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MYP OUR LIBRARY GETS A NEW FACE LIFT O n 25 Aug 2015, I attended a workshop on "ADVANCE KOHA" organized by Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai. In the "Seminar on Advance Koha” they covered the following areas: Implementing advance functionalities of Koha in academic and corporate libraries Institutional perspective on Koha Koha on Cloud - Features and functionality Digital integrated library solutions The session was very informative and I gained knowledge about how radio-frequency identification helps to make a digital library. I was given a CD on Koha software and I-Scholar e resources membership card. I like to thank the Management and the Coordinators for giving me this opportunity. -Vinay J. Now, we really understand how to embrace the flora and fauna into our routine. We were surprised to know that this was indeed a dumping ground before it was turned into a marvellous green wonder! We had never seen this botanical garden so far and the fact that none of us had ever really visited this, made this field trip even more interesting. We could relate it to plant nutrition and ecosystems (because of the greenhouse) with our lessons on botany. Also, we saw rare medicinal plants used in 'Ayurveda'. The birds’ chirping is still reverberating in our hearts! Those lovely shades of green all over, makes me revisit this garden! 17 Month 2015-16 LEARNING OUTSIDE OUR CLASSROOM MYP Here, we also came to know the different types of plants which are used in our daily lives like turmeric and cinnamon. Beautiful green lawns and mounds, with sea facing benches, under the canopy of Samudraphal trees; this tranquil piece of land commendably blocks out all the traffic noises. The sea breeze that cruises through one edge of the garden fills the air with a salty fresh fragrance. There are neatly paved walking tracks all through the garden and one can lie down in the green lawns if you need to catch up on your sleep! There are hundreds of plants in the garden with special sections. The bright green fluorescent leaves and purple flowers of Durante plant attract loads of butterflies. One more visit will be a bonus! - Students of Grade 10 18 SCHOLASTIC BOOK EXHIBITION Month 2015-16 MYP The MYP library was the venue for the Scholastic book exhibition from 21st till the 28th of August. There were a wide variety of books displayed ranging from comic books to novels, educational books to quiz books and many more. So , if anyone liked a book they could buy or subscribe for it in order to pursue their interests in the genre of books of their choice. The books on display were recommended for ages 11- 14. I thought the book exhibition was great; there were so many books which I was interested in! – Shravya Gowda Grade 7B 19 Month NOTICE 2015-16 4th September 2015 School timings are: Pre primary: 8.45 to 10.30 Primary: 7.45 to 11.30 Open house timings: Preprimary: 11.00 to 2.00 Primary: 12.30 to 3.30 20 Month 2015-16 MENU Canteen PARTICULARS PRE-PRIMARY SHORT BREAK LUNCH TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY MONDAY 01.09.15 02.09.15 03.09.15 04.09.15 07.09.15 GREEN MUNG AND MASUR DAL KHICHADI WITH KADHI SPROUT AND PANEER FRANKY SADA DOSA WITH CHUTNY SITAFAL BASUNDI SAMBHAR RICE WITH PAPADM CORN FLAKES WITH MILK / PEAS CARROT UPMA WITH CHUTNY WHEAT FLAKES WITH MILK / YELLOW DHOKLA WITH RAW PAPAYA SALAD NACHNI KI ROTI PLAIN RICE WHOLE MASUR DAL GREEN CHAWLI BEANS VEG TENDLI WITH COCONUT BOONDI RAITA CUCUMBER SALAD SPROUT FRANKY SPECIAL MEAL MUSELI WITH MILK/ METHI THEPLA WITH CHUNDA OATS WITH MILK / MYSORE MASALA DOSA CEREALS WITH MILK / DAHI VADA CHAPATI TOAMTO RICE TADKA DAL PALAK PANEER MOTH MASALA PAPAD BUTTERMILK SALAD AJWAIN THEPLA ZEERA RICE TERVTI DAL GATTE KI SABZI KARELA BATATA BUTTERMILK GREEN SALAD CHAPATI/ POORI CHOLE KACHUMBER SALAD MASALA CHAAS DUDHI HALWA HAKKA NOODLES WITH MANCHURIAN MASALA SANDWICH SOYA CHUNKS BIRYANI WITH VEG RAITA AND ROASTED PAPAD BHAKRI KHICHADI BOONDI KADHI BAIGAN TAMATAR BHARTA MOTH MASALA SALAD ROASTED PAPAD GARLIC BREAD WITH PANEER CHILLY Note: All salads served will be boiled - Ms Payal Sinha Consultant Dietician 21
