Used Motor Oil Facts:
• lf all used oil improperly disposed of by do-it-yourselfers were
recycled, it could produce enough energy to power
360,000 homes each year or provide 96 million quarts of
High-quality motor oil.
• One gallon of used oil as fuel contains about l40,000 Btu
of energy.
• Re-refining used oil is energy efficient-less energy is
required to produce a gallon of re-refined base stock than
to produce a base stock from crude oil.
• The Department of Defense compared making lube oils
from virgin base oil and used oll and determined using used oil
was both more environmentally friendly and cost- effective.
