A glance at March . . .
planted in the past . . . committed to the future March, 2016 Volume 54, Issue 3 A glance at March . . . † 2nd ~ “First Wednesday” fellowship meal and C.A.R.E. Ministry evening In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3His countenance was like lightening, and his raiment white as snow: 4And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead...8And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. ~Matthew 28:1-8, KJV † 5th ~ Chili Cookoff to benefit Tuckaseigee Baptist Association, 11:00 AM, Rockdale Baptist Church † 6th ~ Operation Inasmuch Planning Meeting, 5:00 PM † † † 8th ~ March Deacon Meeting, 7:00 PM † † † † † 13th ~ Daylight Savings Time begins † 27th ~ EASTER SUNDAY 7:00 AM - Sunrise Service at Old Field 8:00 AM - Breakfast at the Church 10:00 AM - Sunday School 11:00 AM - Morning Worship (Aisle March for Annie Armstrong Offering; Adult Choir Cantata) 9th ~ March Business Meeting, 6:30 PM 10th ~ Vacation Bible School Planning Meeting, 7:00 PM 16th ~ XYZ’s Lunch Outing 21st ~ Women on Mission, 7:00 PM 24th ~ Maundy Thursday Worship, 6:30 PM 26th ~ Children’s Easter Celebration, 10:00 AM-12:00 Noon Scotts Creek Baptist Church Page 2 “First Wednesday” Fellowship Meal/C.A.R.E. The Missions Committee and others who are interested in being a part of our OIAM day of ministry are invited to attend! Thursday evening, March 10, 7:00 PM ~ Planning meeting for this year’s Vacation Bible School, “Barnyard Roundup,” which will be held the week of July 17. If you are interested in teaching/helping with this year’s VBS, please plan to attend! See Frankie Harris if you have questions. from the Church Decorating Committee . . . Our church has a team of “decorators” who do an excellent job in preparing our church building with decorations for each season. A number of our flower decorations are beginning to show some wear and need replacing. If you place flowers in the sanctuary on a Sunday at any time during the year and are interested in making a donation in lieu of purchasing your own flowers, please see Cathie Hooper, Elaine Morgan or Lou Dillard. During the Easter Season we sing the hymn, "At Calvary." The hymn was written by William Reed Newell, a Bible teacher, commentator, pastor and professor. Robert Brown and Mark Norton write about the history of this great hymn in One Ye ar Great So ngs o f Faith. (Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. 1995) Brown and Norton write, "that w hile William Ne w ell was on his way to teach a class at Moody Bible Institute, the words of this hymn began to form in his mind. He didn't want to forget these ideas, so he went into an unoccupied classroom and there scribbled the words on the back of an envelope. A few minutes later he gave the words to Daniel B. Towner, the director of music at the school. Within an hour Towner had composed music for them." Brown and Norton continue to write that " the first three stanzas of ‘At Calvary’ tell the testimony of the Christian; the final stanza praises God for the greatness of divine love, the depth of grace, and the breadth of mercy. The last stanza bears a resemblance to Romans 11:33, ‘Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge!’” The last stanza of the song says: “Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan! Oh the grace that bro’t it down to man! Oh the mighty gulf that God did span At Calvary.” As we celebrate the coming of Spring and the change of seasons, let us be thankful for the beauty of the earth as God’s creation. Let us glory in the cross at Calvary and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Please join us on Easter Sunday morning as the adult choir presents the Easter Musical, Lamb of God. We will begin the service at 10:45 AM with special music before the service at 11:00 AM. We know you will be blessed.
