Day one – Wednesday, January 28, 2015
Opening Keynote: Charles and Jennifer Maring,
Maring Visuals, Manhattan, Connecticut, Palm Beach, Worldwide
Reinventing storytelling: Who‘s afraid of disruptive motion?
In 2001, Charles and Jennifer Maring won the Grand Award at the International Photography Awards for the first time. Under their brand
“Maring Visuals”, they joined the ranks of the world‘s pre-eminent wedding photographers, shooting celebrity weddings that grace the
covers of magazines and other worldwide media. Rather than being afraid of disruptive technologies, Charles and Jennifer embrace new
ways of image capture, processing and sharing to reinvent storytelling by blending together photography, fi lm-making and the interactive
world to create unique collections and picture products with a Vintage Hollywood flair. In a stunning presentation, the creative couple
will demonstrate how pros and amateur enthusiasts can leverage innovations such as time lapse, 4K video, light field imaging and the
ubiquitous connectivity to create a new breed of virtual and physical picture products today and even more exciting memories in motion
tomorrow.
James Soames, Chief Marketing Officer, Kodak Alaris
Future Image: The changing face of images in the 21st century
Kodak Alaris helps people around the planet to connect with their images in new and exciting ways. In this talk, the company‘s Chief
Marketing Officer, James Soames, shares his ideas and insights into the changing role of images in the 21st century. From the new
technology that is transforming what people can do, to the future trends that are set to redefine the industry once again.
Marcel Gonska, Founder/CEO of WLC
4K Video: The power of pictures in motion
With its profound expertise on the perfect reproduction of videos and motion pictures on all kinds of screens, WLC has made a name for
itself as a leading consultation company for the AV industry. In addition to supporting international manufacturers and retailing companies
to create great products, generate good test results and improve sales, the company has now expanded its activities into the creation of
native 4K content. Learn the do’s and don’ts when shooting 4K content, understand best practices to process and transmit huge 4K video
files, and get first-hand advice on how imaging service providers and retailers can take advantage of the new technology to develop and sell
innovative virtual and physical picture products.
Frank Franz, Global Marketing and Sales Director Photo Markets, GfK Retail and Technology
Imaging bestsellers in a market in motion
The Golden Age in the camera market is over. While consumers take more pictures than ever, sales of compacts and DSLRs are significantly
declining. Increasing demand for mirrorless system cameras and high-end compacts cannot compensate for the shrinking sales. But there
are opportunities in every crisis: new capturing devices, often launched by newcomers to the imaging industry, can lure new customers into
the photo shop. Frank Franz will present not only GfK’s latest figures which picture taking products are selling best and which features are
liked most by the consumers, but also reveal the findings of GfK consumer research. Discover opportunities for further growth in a market in
motion.

Michael Shamiyeh, Professor and Head of Design Organization Media (DOM)
Research Lab, University of Arts and Design, Linz, Austria
Move or lose: the impact of disruptive innovations
The Design Organization Media (DOM) Research Lab is an internationally recognized research and consulting center that helps organizations
to define the framework for compelling innovation strategies, to sense, create, and implement desired futures, and to build their own
capabilities, systems, and structures that are right for change. In his presentation, Professor Shamiyeh will define disruptive innovations and
explain their impact on established companies and business models. He will also investigate why companies fail to cope with disruptive
change and will outline strategies to respond to disruptive innovations.
Hans Hartman, President, Suite 48 Analytics
The photo app show and tell session
One of the world’s leading experts in mobile photo applications, Hans Hartman, President of Suite 48 Analytics, chair of the Mobile Photo
Connect conference in San Francisco and GigaOm PR analyst, has been named “Power Player in Mobile” by AlwaysOn. In a premiere at the
Business Forum Imaging Cologne, Hartman will have qualified developers to demo their photo or video apps in a fast-paced show and tell
session. In exactly four minutes each, the presenters will have the opportunity to explain the features of their apps and their business model;
for another minute or two, they will face Hans’ tough questions. Look forward to an entertaining and enlightening session on what‘s cool
with the latest photo apps.
Anthony Pieters, Business Manager Photo Imaging Products, Fujifilm Europe B.V.
From the flood of images to premium picture products
With its Image Organizer technology, Fujifilm enables easy and comfortable ways for consumers to manage, organize and share their
pictures and have them printed. In fact, the company’s proprietary solution automatically selects the best pictures out of thousands of
images and turns them into innovative picture products such as the new My Photo Diary. For real premium products, Fujifilm focuses on
further improving its silver halide Chrystal Archive color paper technology with new developments such as album, textured and velvet
papers. By combining minilabs with new post-processing solutions, small and mid-size service businesses including photo retailers can offer
customized silver halide photo books to distinguish themselves from other providers.
Marion Knoche, President, Gi & Pa AG
Disruptive innovations and imaging
After the digital revolution, the photo and imaging industry faces even more changes of technologies and markets. Marion Knoche, a
renowned market researcher and consultant who witnessed the triumphal march of digital imaging from the very beginning, illustrates how
disruptive technologies bring challenges, but also opportunities to manufacturers, service providers and retailers. In fact, while some imaging
companies failed to cope with disruptive innovations, others have been able not only to survive the change, but even to drive the shift to
new business models. Newcomers, on the other hand, can take advantage of innovations to enter the market und redefine its rules.
Day two – Thursday, January 29, 2015
Ulrich Eggert, Ulrich Eggert Consulting, Cologne
Is the Internet taking over? How do we get the photo retailers in motion?
Digitization is now regarded as the fourth industrial revolution. E-commerce has heavily impacted the retail trade, with signifi cant shifts
in market share. In many respects, the customers are well ahead of the trade and other players. Ulrich Eggert uses his experience from
32 years at the retail consulting company, BBE Unternehmensberatung GmbH in Cologne, Germany – 13 of them as CEO – to develop
strategies that enable retailers to safeguard their future. It‘s essential to strengthen the shop’s own brand and to leverage the power of the
buying groups to speak to the customers on all platforms.

and Topics
Day two – Thursday, January 29, 2015
Christian Rössler, Head of Connected Retail, Serviceplan, Munich
Shopping 2020: combining virtual and real shopping worlds
Under the name Connected Retail, Serviceplan Sales – the sales-promoting production and implementation agency of the Serviceplan
Group – has established a business unit that is focused on linking together the digital and stationary retailing channels and merging the
virtual world with the physical reality of the shop. Christian Rössler defines new roles that brick-and-mortar retailers can play, and shows
examples of how E- and mobile commerce can be intelligently combined with offerings in the store. Omni-channel means strategically
connecting digital technologies with a personalized customer approach in order to create an exciting shopping experience.
Stephan Stein, Managing Director, Japan Photo Holding Norway AS
Photo retailing in motion
In the view of Japan Photo, the leading specialty photo retailing chain in Norway and Sweden, the smartphone is no longer a bogeyman, but
has become a good friend. Stephan Stein will present new ways to leverage online and mobile platforms, apps and new services to generate
additional sales and attract new target groups. He will also outline how to inspire the sales staff for the new business models and which
innovative store concepts can help to convey the message to the customers.
Panel discussion:
Is omni-channel retailing an option for specialty shops?
In this session, the speakers Ulrich Eggert and Christian Rössler will discuss their theses with high-profile specialty retailers. Is omni-channel
retailing really a model to safeguard the future of specialty shops? How can buying groups help their members to cope with competing online
vendors? What are the features of the future specialty store, and how can retailers not only survive but also shape the market and play a
critical role as the crucial link between suppliers and consumers?
Rainer Bauer, CEO Imaging Solutions
Beautiful products open new markets
While marketing experts and strategists are scratching their heads to invent sophisticated concepts that motivate people to print their
photos, Rainer Bauer favors a more practical approach. In his view, premium quality rather than low pricing is essential to stimulate the
market. With today‘s technology, it‘s easier than ever to produce real premium products even if the print run is just one copy. It is up to the
retailers and service providers to take advantage of this opportunity and get the consumers excited for beautiful picture products.
Zoltàn Diószeghy, CEO, HPIX KFD., Budaoers, Hungary
Imaging services unlimited: the Cloud for retailers
Capitalizing on its rich experience in retail printing services, HPIX has developed the Creative Photo Cloud that enables retailers to offer their
customers a practically unlimited range of picture products online, through mobile devices and in the store. The comprehensive solution,
which won the Eurocloud Award 2014 in Hungary, puts the retailer‘s brand in the forefront. Since all products, features and rules are defined
in the Cloud, users can add new products, run promotions and add content such as professional photos, public or private images or stock
photos quickly and easily.
