PEOPLE Movements Portsmouth POLL Sales and a veteran with 22 years' experience at Dometic relocates from the US to the UK to better serve the key growth territories of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Kester Petersson has been with Dometic for 11 years and in his new role will manage the aftermarket sales teams within these territories and support regional country managers with strategic advice and support. [email protected] Poll hears The Software Salesman took home ‘compensation’ of $84.5m in 2009. That was a bit of a pay cut on the $84.6m he took home in 2008, but when times are hard, the Oracle CEO needs to set an example, eh? He could almost be a UK MP on those figures. If you've ever felt a little worried watching the wings flex on the aircraft as your Malaga flight takes off, Poll says you can rest assured those wings can bend a lot further. Take a look at Poll’s picture of a Boeing 787 undergoing an ‘ultimate wing test’, with each bent up around 25ft at the tip… The wings were kept in that position for two hours and the aircraft passed the test with flying (groan) colours. Poll feels sorry for two Cornwall rowers who spent almost three months racing across the Atlantic before running aground less than one mile from the finish line. Phil Pring and Ben Cummings, members of Zennor Gig Club from Penzance, set off on the 3,000 mile trip from the Canaries to the West Indies in January. But the pair were picked up by Antiguan authorities after their boat Vision of Cornwall, ran aground. Maybe the vision didn’t include the Low Lee-alike lump of land sticking up… 22 ❘ BoatingBusiness Photo: djmick While she knew the odd narrowboat owner enjoyed a glass of ale on occasions, Poll was sad to hear one owner’s drinking and behaviour got him a two-year ASBO after a series of loud and drunken parties on the Nottingham Canal. It seems there were three notorious boats on the Nottingham that would get a bit noisy and out of hand on occasions. What a pity, says Poll, that it’s often the few who bring the greatest anger to the many. When That Nice Mr Nash was writing a piece about how confusing the stand numbering was at the British Leisure Show, he wanted to use Carol Vorderman’s name. But, not certain whether it was one or two n’s, he Googled her name. He found a website devoted to Ms Vorderman under the name of Carol’s Bum Worshipping that which is perfect (they say), namely Carol Vorderman’s Bum. How about that? But ❚ The shapely Ms Vorderman Mr Nash was rather disappointed that – in spite of the site’s insistence that Ms Vorderman’s bum is perfect – there were very few images of the aforementioned perfect posterior… But Poll hears rumours she may have a sticky-out bum in profile. Do any of her readers know for sure? www.boatingbusiness.com april 2010 Largs Yacht Haven has appointed Roger Jones as full time haven master. Mr Jones joins the 15 strong staff team at the 700 berth marina on the Clyde to assist with berthing and day to day operations. He will be dealing with the new Largs Open Weekend, the IRC Scottish Championships, Clydeport Largs Regatta Week and most importantly the Laser Radial World Championships. Mr Jones, who co-owns a Hanse 342 based on the Clyde, has been actively involved with the Ocean Youth Trust for many years, rising to watch leader on part of the Trust’s round the world cruise. Robert Kathro has been appointed managing director of Southampton Yacht Services (SYS). The current MD, SYS founder Piers Wilson, remains in place to ensure a seamless transition. Mr Kathro, who qualified as a naval architect, has a strong and varied background in manufacture and the marine industry, combining technical knowledge and strategic consultancy experience. Dometic Marine has made three strategic appointments, bringing Robert Sagulin, Kester Petersson and Ned Trigg to new roles. Robert Sagulin moves from vice president of Sales to vice president of Marine New Product Strategies. In his new role he will be responsible for the development and sourcing of new products across the Dometic brand portfolio. He brings 25 years' experience at Dometic and a thorough background in engineering and sales to the role. Ned Trigg, senior vice president of Global System Crewsaver has appointed a dedicated manager, Peter Ford, to support the Yak brand. Mr Ford, an employee of Crewsaver for over a decade and a half, has a keen interest in paddling and has been working especially closely with the Yak range for the last few years, so his new role as brand manager is being seen as ‘a natural progression’. He will be working closely alongside Crewsaver’s team of sales managers with the aim of meeting as many customers as possible. Stone Marine Propulsion has promoted Lyn Bodger to the role of managing director, following the recent retirement of Dr Graham Patience. Mr Bodger joined Stone Manganese Marine, as the company was then known, from Brookes Bell where he was a surveyor, in 1979. He had previously graduated from Plymouth and served eight years at sea. His first position at Stone Marine was that of a designer but he soon became a project engineer, then technical manager and was appointed technical director in 2006. Contender UK is expanding its customer support and technical services team with the appointment of Richard Knibbs. Mr Knibbs has many years of experience in the textile industry with sewing thread brand leaders Coats and the Amann Group of Germany, specialising in technical threads such as Tenara and their use in technical textile applications. His experience and knowledge will place him to be able to offer advice and support to customers regarding the company’s range of specialised and technical products, including WeatherMax material, Tenara sewing threads and Q-Snap fasteners. Claudio Zimarino has been appointed to join the rapidly expanding team at OceanLED. He will be the sales director for Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) to develop and strengthen the company’s expansion into these key territories. Mr Zimarino comes with extensive experience, gained from 13 years with global electronics brand, Navionics. During his time at Navionics, his job titles have included Italian sales manager, sales manager for Northern Europe, and sales and marketing manager EMEAAPAC. Mr Zimarino’s appointment will enable OceanLED to maintain its strong European sales presence.
