Clearinghouse CDFI was founded in 1996 to address the unmet credit needs and to finance
projects benefiting distressed communities in California. The mission of Clearinghouse CDFI is to
provide economic opportunities and improve the life for lower-income individuals and communities
through innovative and affordable financing that is unavailable in the conventional market.
Clearinghouse funds the majority of its loans to non-profit organizations for the creation and
preservation of housing development and community development projects, including affordable
housing. Clearinghouse CDFI is currently one of the fastest growing CDFIs in the nation, with a
service area that includes all of California and Nevada. Clearinghouse’s products and services
include loans to nonprofits, loans to community development projects, and New Markets Tax
Credits loans.
n Success Story: The Monarch School, San Diego, CA
Clearinghouse CDFI provided a $3.8 million, upper-tier, leveraged loan and extensive technical
assistance to make this project possible. Monarch Schools educates students impacted by
homelessness. This transaction allowed Monarch Schools to expand its services from 150 to
over 350 children in grades K-12. The new campus also includes a gymnasium and recreational
facilities to help provide a more supportive environment where children can become more highly
motivated, contributing members of society.
