He was born on December 27, 2008 and died April 24, 2009. In the short time he was with us he was such a joy and his tragic death has inspired all of us to be kinder and a more patient people. Doing SFS in his memory was so rewarding because many people who never had the opportunity to meet Sean were still so generous. We will be making raising money for SFS a yearly event. TEAM AUSTIN’S LIL’ ANGELS To raise awareness of SIDS in our community we have several things going on. First, my company has been great by allowing 12 of our local bank offices to wear jeans on April 23rd with the donation of $5.00 In addition to wearing jeans I have had silicone awareness bracelets made; they are baby blue and baby pink with “Spring for SIDS” embossed on one side and my precious son Braylen‟s name on the other. We are selling these for $5 each. A local t-shirt shack learned about our fundraiser and gave us an awesome rate on some t-shirts for our SFS team to wear as well as some additional ones we are hoping to sell. We have also placed several posters and donation canisters at our bank offices teller lines so that our banking customers are able to learn about SIDS as well as help fight for a cure. We are looking forward to Friday, April 23rd when we will be hosting a Spring for SIDS Snack Day. My husband and brother-in-law will be supporting our fundraisers in their t-shirts, bracelets, and jeans serving food and promoting the fundraiser to provide awareness about SIDS to our community. We are very gracious for the support we have received from many individuals already and are crossing our fingers that we reach our goal of $1500.00!!!! It is a great feeling to think that because of our efforts we are helping to keep more babies in their parents‟ arms, not just in their hearts. Page - 4 TEAM KEIRA’S KREW My husband Clint and I put together our Spring for SIDS fundraiser. We held the event at the VFW Club in Bloomington, IL on Friday April 23rd. We had live music, food, raffles, silent auction, live auction and a DJ/Karaoke at the end of the evening. The event was a HUGE success and the turn out was more than we ever imagined. With the help of family and many friends we were able to raise over $15,000!!!! My husband and I could not believe how many people came out to support us and help us honor our Sweet Angel Keira Kay! We just recently lost Keira in January of this year, so it was very tough putting the event together, but I would not take it back for anything. This was the first time since Keira passed that I have felt a little bit of joy. Knowing we raised all this money in honor of my sweet baby girl and all the other babies who have died so suddenly meant the world to us. TEAM KAMRYN’S KAUSE Kamryn‟s Kause is in memory of Kamryn Jaymes Burke, December 22, 2009 – March 24, 2010. She is the daughter of Kandice and Troy Burke. Kandice works at Vanston Middle School and Troy is a Student Resource Officer at New Middle School both in MISD where many other family members are also employed. There are 30 campuses within MesquiteISD participating in our $5 jean day to raise funds for ASI. Page - 5 TEAM ARCHER’S SHOOT Our team has already raised well over $400 and the event we are holding isn't until 417. We are holding an Archery Shoot for our community. We have several restaurants in Nassau County that have agreed to donate food so each plate will be for donation only as well as shooting the course and of course the stickers. We also have a DJ and Karaoke (all donated their time and equipment). As well as a bounce house for children. The town seems to be very involved and excited as well as am I. The week before the event the local paper is going to run an article on the event as well as an article on how SIDS has affected my family. They will include all the SIDS do's and don'ts as well as pics. Thank you so much for allowing me to turn my personal experience with this into something a little better, and that can maybe make more people aware that it is real and it happens here. TEAM SWING PHI SWING, SOCIAL FELLOWSHIP, INC This was my first year being involved with this project. This gave my husband and me an opportunity to talk about our son and remember our precious time with him. My sisters of Swing Phi Swing were great supporters! Community Health Fair at Carl Russell Recreation Center Winston-Salem, NC, April 17, 2010 Our girls in our mentoring program wanted to have a SFS at school, so we did and they did! Girls As Pearls Club at East Chapel Hill High School, Chapel Hill, NC. TEAM OUR SHINING STAR Our Shining Star fundraiser was our first and we had a blast. We partnered with Boomer's BBQ and had our event at there, we filled all tables a couple times over. Although our Logan was not physically with us, we know that he was there. We had two themes, "Learn it before you live it" and mine personally was "To save one baby, to save one mom from the pain, and to save one best friend from hurting twice". Page - 6 TEAM OWEN Our team held a 5k Walk in Las Vegas, NV and we also had a 5k walk being held in another country, Atyrau, Kazakhstan in honor of my granddaughter Jadyn Alexia Owen. This was our first SFS Event and I am absolutely pleased at the turn out along with the donations that we have collected for SIDS. Thank you to everyone for participating and donating. TEAM CENTRA PITTERPATTERS My team was headed by two neonatal nurses and we focused our fundraising to nurses and nursing students. We have launched a back to sleep campaign in our unit and have recently increased our education to parents. We held a "Spring Break for SIDS" party and had a great time. We had a tropical theme party that was a great hit with all of the hospital staff. The party was held at Centra Health's Virginia Baptist Hospital. This was our first time participating and we had a wonderful experience TEAM Page - 7 SIDS CAUSES HEARTACHE The first annual SIDS Causes Heartache Event for Spring for SIDS 2010 was a HUGE SUCCESS, we know that our angel Sky was watching over us. We look forward to next year & the years to come. We hope to grow & raise more money for the American SIDS Institute to find more answers & raise awareness every year. We love and miss you always our sweet baby boy, Sky Charles Hipp. TEAM LOVING KIDS, NO SIDS Our SFS Day benefit concert by local band Scatter Creek was a blast! Even though the evening began with us all taking cover for a tornado warning, our event was eventually successful and exciting. Our team-Loving Kids, NO SIDS-hosted the band, who provided powerful entertainment as our guests browsed our silent auction of over 50 items, visited the Memorial Table to pray for local SIDS Angels, and enjoyed concessions. Page - 8 TEAM TARYN Since April 3 was the first anniversary of our daughter, Taryn Ellane, my husband and I decided to host the first annual beef-n-beer / chinese auction on this day. Knowing it would be tough, it would also allow us to celebrate her life, raise awareness, as well as money for research so hopefully no other baby and family has to endure this pain. We relied on family and friends to help with our event, since we welcomed our newest addition, Rylan (named after his big sister by combining part of her first and middle name) on March 16. We sold out our tickets and had over 60 + baskets donated for our auction. Everything was perfect and I know that Taryn was there with us. See the attached photos of our benefit. We were able to donate just over $6,000 to the Institute. TEAM HYMNS FOR HOPE Team "Hymns for Hope" held their hymn sing fundraising event for the Spring for SIDS campaign benefiting The American SIDS Institute on April 23, 2010 - 7PM at Penny's Chapel in Lawrenceburg, KY. This event was dedicated to Natalee Olivia Hope Hytinen, Alice and Patrick Stewart's granddaughter. Pictured in the poster advertising the event is Natalee with her great-grandfather, Richard Hastede, taken approximately one month prior to her death. Team "Hymns for Hope" raised $2670 and everyone involved and in attendance expressed how much of a success the event was. Family and friends joined in fellowship and prayer remembering the children who have died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Page - 9 Angel Spotlight Page - 10 Little Angels When God calls little children to dwell with Him above We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love. For no heartache compares with the death of one small child Who does so much to make our world seem wonderful and mild. Perhaps God tires of calling the aged to His fold. So He picks a rosebud before it can grow old. God knows how much we need them, and so He takes but few, To make the land of Heaven more beautiful to view. Believing this is difficult, still somehow we must try. The saddest word mankind knows will always be “Goodbye” So when a little child departs, we who are left behind, Must realize God loves children “Angels are hard to find”. - Author Unknown It is never too soon to start planning for Spring-for-SIDS 2011 April 29 Page - 11
