Trivia:
The only regular cast member who died on M*A*S*H was
Colonel Henry Blake. He perished when the plane that was
carrying him out of the war to return to the U.S. crashed.
The program actually lasted 8 years longer than the real
Korean War did.
M*A*S*H is a medical-military-comedy series, adapted
from the 1970 feature film MASH that follows a team of
doctors and support staff stationed at the “4077th Mobile
Army Surgical Hospital” in Uijeongbu, South Korea, during
the Korean War. M*A*S*H’s theme song featured an
instrumental version of the song “Suicide Is Painless”, which
also appears in the original film.
Radar O’Reilly’s first name was actually Walter. He was
called “Radar” because he always seemed to know what
was going to happen right before it did happen. He would
say, “Incoming Choppers” before anyone heard anything.
Then 15 seconds later, you’d hear them. He would also
finish people’s sentences for them as if he knew what they
were thinking.
Like the TV incarnation of The Odd Couple, the M*A*S*H
series has supplanted the original film in the public’s
consciousness. Legendary comedy writer Larry Gelbart (Your
Show of Shows) deserves a medal for developing Robert
Altman’s bloody, funny 1970 classic for television with
much of its anti-establishment spirit intact. The first-season
episodes--bracingly less politically correct than the shows in
the final seasons--chart the program’s sometimes bumpy
evolution as it tried to remain true to the film’s anarchic
spirit while finding its own voice. In its 11-year run, M*A*S*H
earned 14 Emmy Awards, and it remains one of TV’s most
beloved series.
The 2 1/2 hour M*A*S*H finale set a record for the most
watched television episode of all time with 106 million
viewers. The “Cheers (1982)” finale holds second place with
80 million and the final episode of “Seinfeld (1990)” comes
in at #3 with 76 million.

Gary Burghoff’s left hand is slightly deformed, and he took
great pains to hide or de-emphasize it during filming. He
did this by always holding something (like a clipboard), or
keeping that hand in his pocket.

In Colonel Blake’s office you can see a model of an UH-1 “Huey” helicopter
hanging from the ceiling. However, this type first flew in 1956, years after the
Korean War came to an end.
Hawkeye can been seen in 1980s footwear in a couple of episodes.
Hawkeye’s background and family situation changes quite a bit during the run
of the series. At the beginning he is from Vermont, both parents are living, he
has a married sister that sends him an oversized homemade sweater, and a
nephew. By the end of the show, he is from Crabapple Cove, Maine, and he is
an only child whose mother died when he was about 10.
Col. Potter’s horse Sophie changed sex throughout the series.
Powerlines are visible in the background of some exterior shots.
The chair Hawkeye is sometimes seen sitting on in the Swamp has the serial
number S9JPA meaning it was made from the discarded case of rocket
ammunition.

Mexican Juicy Lucy Burgers
Prep Time: 15 min
Total Time: 30 min
Servings: 6
1 pound lean ground beef
6 slices pepper jack cheese
10 ounces ground chorizo
6 burger buns
1 packet Old El Paso™ taco seasoning mix
8 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked
4 ounces cheddar cheese, cut into 6 cubes
2 jalapeños, sliced
Directions
1 Spray the grill with cooking spray, then preheat to medium-high.
2 Place the ground beef and chorizo in a large bowl. Add the taco seasoning and mix with your hands until just evenly combined.
3 Divide the meat into 6 equal balls.
4 Place a cube of cheddar cheese in the middle of each ball.
5 Use your hands to encase the meat around the cheese. Pat until you have covered the cheese completely and have formed a burger
patty.
6 Place the patties on the grill, close the grill, and cook undisturbed (do not press down on the patties) until grill marks appear on the
bottom, about 3 to 4 minutes. Using a spatula, flip the patties, close the grill again, and cook until grill marks appear on the second
side and the patties are cooked through, about 3 to 4 minutes more. During the last minute of grilling add a slice of pepper jack
cheese to each patty.
7 Place a patty on each bun bottom, top with bacon and jalapenos. Add top bun and serve immediately.
