Getting Started
Whether you are beginning to use aromatherapy or you are teaching your clients about the
benefits of using aromatherapy at home, always remember to follow these simple guidelines.
Blending and Storage
To create your own essential oil blends for home or spa use, you’ll need a glass
measuring cup, a glass beaker and stirring rod, and 4-8 oz. amber glass bottles. Not
all oils mix well together, and when beginning, it’s best to combine no more than three
essential oils. To ensure quality, make only enough to last 2-3 months.
• Make sure the room is well-ventilated.
• Measure out the correct amounts of essential oils directly into glass beaker.
• Mix thoroughly with glass stirring rod.
• Add the correct amount of carrier oil and stir thoroughly again.
• Pour the mixture into a clean amber bottle and label it.
• Make sure the bottle is airtight and let it stand upright in a cool, dark place
for at least 48 hours.
• Always store tightly sealed bottles upright, away from light, heat, and humidity.
Note: Never blend or store essential oils in plastic or ceramic, and never mix essential oils with animal fats,
fish oils, mineral oils such as petroleum or bay oil, or any synthetic or chemically treated vegetable oil.
Safety
Essential oils are concentrated, powerful, and highly flammable, so it’s important to handle and store them with care. If you
have any questions about their use, consult a qualified aromatherapist or seek medical advice. Always seek professional
advice before using essential oils if you are pregnant or have a medical condition such as epilepsy or high blood pressure.
• Never take oils internally.
• Never use oils undiluted on the skin.
• Avoid during pregnancy and/or lactation.
• Wipe up any spills immediately with a paper towel
and dispose outside.
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
and wash hands after use.
• Stop use immediately and seek medical advice
if you have an adverse reaction.
• Keep oils away from children and pets.
• Keep oils away from heat sources.
