Florist of the Month: Daisy a Day Florist
Kelly Jordan is the owner of this corner florist located on Donnelly Street in beautiful downtown Mount Dora. She has
been the owner of the shop for 5 years now but the shop itself is over 25 years old. Daisy a Day is family owned and operated.
Her Dad and Mom help her run the florist along with her silent partner sister. Kelly was recently married and her husband helps
out part time when he can.
They have been refurbishing the outside of her building and it’s really taking shape . . . talk about a face lift! And, Kelly
has also been remodeling the inside and it looks like a brand new florist and gift shop. She has also been working on getting
more gift items into the store, and carrying new plants and baskets. Kelly specializes in gift baskets, custom silk arrangements
and weddings. She really loves to do these special events. So if you are in the Mount Dora area she would love to have you

Deb's Recipe: "Sweet Potato Pockets"
"Prepare a very special side dish for your next Thanksgiving Party!"
INGREDIENTS
• 1/2 (16-oz.) package won ton wrappers
• 1 (15-oz.) can sweetened mashed sweet potatoes*
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
• Salt to taste
PREP TIME: 20 Min
COOK TIME: 25 min.
YIELD: Makes 4 to 5 servings
DIRECTIONS
1. Arrange 1 won ton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. (Cover remaining wrappers with plastic wrap or a
damp towel to prevent drying out.) Lightly moisten wrapper with water. Place about 1 Tbsp. mashed
sweet potatoes in center of wrapper; fold 2 opposite corners together over mashed sweet potatoes,
forming a triangle. Press edges together to seal, removing any air pockets. Cover with plastic wrap or a
damp cloth. Repeat procedure with remaining wrappers and mashed sweet potatoes.
2. Cook pockets, in 2 batches, in boiling water to cover in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat 3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon, and drain well.
3. Sauté pockets, in batches, in hot oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain well. Arrange
pockets on a serving platter.
4. Melt butter in skillet over medium heat; stir in sage. Cook, stirring occasionally, 4 minutes or until butter is lightly browned. Pour over pockets, and add salt
to taste.
*1 (15-oz.) can cut sweet potatoes in syrup, mashed, may be substituted.

CFFA October Meeting
Our October meeting was held at N.G.M. Productions in Mount Dora. It was a very interesting night with
a tour of Nancy’s greenhouse. It is really nice and clean and very organized. She showed us some of the
new plants that she is working on for the future that are new to this area. N.G.M. is the #1 greenhouse for the
anthuriums.
Nancy talked to us about how the economy has changed this industry. She also talked about how she
does her shows with her manikin. She has the florist decorate her for certain themes. She gets a lot of attention at the shows
according to Nancy!
Dinner was catered in and it was great, BBQ and the works. We held an auction with all the nice designs that were brought
in using antiserums. Nancy invited us to come in anytime and see what’s going on and purchase plants id we choose. A very
nice greenhouse and Nancy was full of good information about this industry!! I hope to see more new faces at the next meeting
which is at Carlstadt’s and sponsored by Teleflora. The date is November 10th at 6:30. Please RSVP to Tim Ryan at Betty J’s
