Introduction to Purse Management Psitek’s devices use a purse to mimic a pre-paid SIM while the device actually uses a contract SIM. The advantage of using a contract SIM is that rates are normally lower than that of a pre-paid SIM.The disadvantage, however, is that you lose the pre-paid capability. The purse on the device provides the pre-paid capability on a contract SIM. When the purse is enabled on a device - and is empty - the device stops resale of calls and text messages (SMS). Normally the owner of the device would have to pre-pay the Network Operator to top up the purse (adjust purse) in order to start reselling calls and text messages. The Psitek Management Centre’s (PMC) Purse Manager enables the Network Operator to query the last purse transaction and adjust the device purses remotely. ‘Low purse’ alerts are captured as alerts on the Psitek Management Centre. 3 2. Purse Management 2.1 Viewing and navigating Devices The device can be monitored and the last purse transactions viewed via the Purse Management >> Devices page. The columns on this page show the MSISDN, owner and last purse transaction details of all devices. If a device’s purse is turned off or if the last transaction has not been queried, the last purse transaction details will be empty. This page also provides Menu/Action buttons which, when one or more devices are selected, enable the user to adjust or query the selected device’s purse. 2.2 Understanding purse jobs Use the Psitek Management Centre to query or adjust the purse on a device. The PMC creates one or more jobs that contain the instructions to effect the changes. This job differs from a normal device management job in that it contains both the previous and ‘current’ purse (on the given date) - as well as a transaction ID. In other words, an adjust purse job is the adjusted purse transaction. 2.3 Understanding purse alerts The Psitek Management Centre uses alerts when an error occurs with a purse job. Alerts include the following: • A job has failed because of the following: The job timed out The job’s request to the device - or reply from the device - got lost The transaction ID is not unique It is possible to repeat the job if one of the first two conditions occurred. • The purse on the device is not activated. • The Purse Manager detected that fraudulent actions may have taken place on the specified device. 2.4 How to set up low purse warnings Psitek devices have the ability to send low purse warnings via SMS to the Psitek Management Centre, or to a pre-specified MSISDN. Devices can be set up to report their low purse warnings by configuring the devices as follows: • Navigate to Device Management >> Devices. • Select the devices to be configured and press Configure. • Specify the alerts settings (see Figure 1) and follow the steps in the Configuration Wizard. Figure 1 The device’s low purse warnings can be viewed by navigating to Purse Management >> Alerts. 4 Purse Management 2.5 How to query the last purse transaction To query the last purse transaction, navigate to the Purse Management >> Devices page. The screen below will appear: Figure 2 • Select the devices which a last purse transaction must be queried and press the Query Purse. • Follow these three steps to create the query purse job: Step 1: Select Perform Query and press Continue Figure 3 5 Purse Management Step 2: Select Medium and press Continue Figure 4 Step 3: Verify the job and press Finish Figure 5 • Once the job has been successfully completed, both the job and the device will show the last purse transaction data. If the purse functionality of the queried device is turned off, the Psitek Management Centre will raise an alert indicating this condition when the response of the query purse job is evaluated. 2.6 How to adjust the purse A device’s purse cannot be adjusted if it has not been queried at least once before to get the last transaction ID. To adjust the purse, begin by navigating to Purse Management >> Devices. The following screen will appear: 6 Purse Management Figure 6 • Select the device on which purse is to be adjusted and press the Adjust Purse. • Follow these three steps to create the adjust purse jobs. Step 1: Specify the adjustment values and press Continue. Figure 7 Step 2: Select Medium and press Continue. I Figure 8 7 Purse Management Step 3: Verify the job and press Finish Figure 9 • Once the job has been successfully completed, both the job and device will reflect the new purse transaction data. 8 3. Troubleshooting The query purse job fails 1. Make sure that the purse feature is enabled on the device. The adjust purse job fails 1. Make sure that the purse feature is enabled on the device. Note: The last transaction must be known before making any purse adjustments. Remember to query the last purse transaction if the Psitek Management Centre does not know it yet. The Psitek Management Centre does not allow a purse adjustment 1. Before the Psitek Management Centre will allow any purse transactions, e.g. adding or subtracting purse, it needs to know the last transaction details that were performed on the device. Therefore the last purse transactions need to be queried at least once before the Psitek Management Centre will allow any purse adjustments. 9 4.
